  1. I suppose it was novel and cool the first time...but it is getting old.
  2. Dynasty horns aren't that bad. Normally poor to below average horn player will blame the instrument more than the player. This seems to be the norm here I have noticed...blame the equipment...just..weird. There have been bad horns from every manufacturer...seen them, played them, had them fixed if out of warranty. It's pretty obvious when a horn goes down the line and is very sharp or flat for every player...but that can be fixed or replaced.
  3. Well, goes to show tastes differ and I agree BD's show was far from anything special. Kinda reminded me of the joke about re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic but I digress. Quite honestly if DCI wants to give credit for furniture there isn't alot you can do until they change the scoring system to reward music rather than visual. Weighting music scores MAY solve some of the issues but 2009 is going to be one of THOSE years I believe.
  4. Naw..get a set of 2 valve power bores and REALLY pi$$ them off.
  5. Wait, I have figured out. Everyone in the stands can now wear those headsets like you get at those 3d films where the sound is piped to everyone....not if only the batteries hold up the whole show.
  6. Not that we don't see that here on DCP do we?
  7. There are moments...yeah that speaks volumes. So I have to appreciate poor balance because you say so. Interesting. Being open-minded doesn't mean you have to accept crap and acknowledge the massive amounts of balance problems. I think you meant young adults..the kid card gets waved around a tad too much lately.
  8. Here's a novel idea...why not have the corps go off in reverse order and play music, paying respect to the winning corps as they leave? They are there to compete and perform. Either DCI is going to start entertaining from start to finish or its doomed. Quit pampering these kids and start putting out a complete product.
  9. Virtually none. People making this argument apparently have never seriously played, because normally, you subjected to instruments of types of keys. Trumpet majors are expected to play C,D,Bb and Eb to name some. I get a laugh with people saying it takes forever to adjust, yet claim that today's horn lines are so much better and in tune. Some claim there can be no difference volume wise or sound wise because of the instrumentation or key. That is simply flat out false. Instruments pitched in different keys are DIFFERENT. I am shocked anyone with even a marginal music background would claim such a falsity. A Bb Cornet doesn't SOUND or play like a Bb trumpet. A Bb trumpet doesn't SOUND like a C trumpet etc...
  10. This is GREAT NEWS!!! Now, let's see is Madison can BE that top 6 corps on G horns again with the excitement you expect from them! ;) jk. One can wish.....
  11. Well, not to push the point but MANY college marching bands have been to that stadium and haven't had the issue most corps are having today.
  12. Even in the BEST place they could find horn lines sound weak. Blaming DCI for this stadium is only part of the issue.
  13. I have also experienced both sides and I noticed huge volume differences going back to Bb for college marching band. That was also with 50+ trumpets, with quite a few DCI people coming into the ranks during camp. In fact in 89 in our rank I had a guys from SCV, Cavies, BD and PR (me) and to a person there we thought our bugles projected a ton better.
  14. ..or Troopers could do a Cesario inspired new wave drum corps show based on Brokeback Mountain. ..ok I will go to hell for that one...LOL
  15. Ya..those G horns sure were terrible... [YouTube link removed - MS] or this version [YouTube link removed - MS]
  16. Agreed. But taking the human player out of it isn't the correct way. IMHO the best way would be to have a horn line with 2 sets of horns and setup a db meter and different distances from the line and make sure the horns are all pointing the correct direction. That way the same player and the same mouthpieces would be used. You could even have them play the same unisons and triads for a comparison. You could ALSO have a group of people blindfolded and see what THEY thought was louder and compare with the DB meter and see if there is something with the overtone series that makes a difference to the human ear.
