  1. I could understand DCI wanting to give corps time to go through the document, before making them public. But,I believe the "manifesto" came out last November. Seems odd, that,if these are the protocols DCI expects all corps to follow, they are still being so secretive about them.
  2. One of the things that stood out the most to me in reading the "manifesto" was the "disclaimer". If I remember correctly, DCI is only interested in providing "guidance". There's no indication that they would/could implement mandatory rules/protocols all corps must follow.
  3. From what I've read, it was "pulled" from Redditt. I believe someone also said that posting the "manifesto" wasn't authorized by DCI. if that's true, I don't understand why, after this period of time. DCI hasn't made the "manifesto" public. I did read it. I think, if people who follow the activity, including those on DCP, had a chance to read it, they would have a better understanding of just how many hoops corps will have to jump thru to comply with DCI's mandatory covid protocols.
  4. Do you know if corps are making the "manifesto" available to potential members ? In my opinion,it would be helpful if DCI finally released this to the public.
  5. I can tell you that where I live in North Jersey, some K-12 school districts haven't said if they'd allow the Municipality's Summer Programs to use their facilities. If school boards are not giving the green light to their own town's Summer Programs, seems unlikely they'll even consider outside groups, like a Drum Corps.
  6. Our Governor here in N.J. is now warning about potential surges in new cases due to Covid "variants".
  7. On my way to work this morning I heard a clip from Last night's Town Hall. President Biden moved the goal post to the end of July.
  8. I also think housing and insurance are potential problems. I would hope that things like transportation, housing and insurance were discussed at length during DCI's Winter Meeting.
  9. There was a story on the news this morning and in our local paper, about the head of the University of Minnesota's Center for Infectious Disease and Policy, who was also a Biden Covid 19 transition advisor (Micheal Osterholm). He predicts that, because of variants, there could be another surge in cases. He predicts the next 14 weeks may be the worst yet. Whether that's true or not, that type of prediction may have corps thinking twice about going forward for 2021.
  10. Maybe I'm naive. But I can't believe that ,in today's world, and with all that's happened in Drum Corps,it not being mandatory for a corps to report any sexual assault or abuse allegation to the police.
  11. I agree 100%. The question is,how will governments deal with the variant strains ? Given how they are reacting to the UK strain,I'm not optimistic that,if mutations keep showing up, and they will, things will be allowed to get back to anywhere near normal,in the near future.
  12. From what I've read, one of the problems with developing an effective vaccine for covid has always been the speed and frequency that covid mutates. I heard on the news this morning that they're already working a third dose "booster" for the South African mutation.
  13. Agree 100%. I find it hard believe, with all that's come out the past few years, that number 1 hasn't been mandated by every corps and DCI.
  14. Jumping smokers to the front of the line has angered a number of people here in N.J. There have also been a couple of interesting questions raised about this: A.How do you prove someone is a smoker ? B.If you were a smoker and quit, especially if it was recent, are you still considered a smoker ?
  15. I'm not saying smokers don't deserve to live too. I just don't feel its appropriate to let them jump to the front of the line, strictly because of their habit . That could delay other, in my opinion more deserving people, from getting vaccinated. If lung damage from covid was such a big concern to smokers, they should have quit, as soon they found out last Spring, how damaging covid can be to lungs.
  16. A bit of controversy in NJ,now that the state is allowing smokers to "jump the line" for vaccinations.
  17. Yesterday New York started allowing people over 65 or with certain underlying conditions to register to get the Covid vaccine. As of yesterday afternoon, the earliest appointments were sometime in April,IF NY gets enough of the vaccine doses. Still seems like at least June for the general public to get their first shot. New York's governor has also come up with what he says is a way to have live performances. The state will open a number of rapid testing centers. You would need a negative covid test, that day to attend. Don't think that will work out to well. No way to plan in advance. You have a group of people. One tests positive. Now what ? Positive test, quarantine. Apparently, that being considered for a number or areas/venues.
  18. Insurance is one of "elephants in the room" that has been discussed here. In addition to direct costs,of a member or fan getting covid, there are a number of potential peripheral costs. Things like cleaning a facility if there is a covid infection or lost revenue for a facility if they can't hold an event because of an infection from a corps that used their facility.
  19. Was that the show that a big "gift wrapped box" that they kept going in and out of ?
  20. The announcement references a June "move in" anyone know where ?
  21. My wife just got notified that she can schedule getting vaccinated. Originally she was going to wait. She's a visiting nurse and has a number of covid patients. So she decided to get vaccinated. Her first shot is 12/29. Hopefully no major side effects.
  22. My wife is a "front line" visiting nurse. No indication yet when she will be in line to be able to get the vaccine. In N.J. at least, after health care workers, come Long Term Care patients and staff. Then first responders. According the local news a vaccine won't be available to the "general public" until at least late Spring. I presume "young people" will be last on the list. According to the news this morning, Phizer is already having "supply chain" issues. Until there is a more specific time frame for the vaccine being available, how can a corps plan anything, including housing. I would also like to know, from anyone involved, have corps even attempted to find insurance for 2021 ?
  23. This was one of the issues that was raised with the stadium's design. Based on synthetic turf fields I've designed, the cost of including a drainage system was nothing, compared to the cost of a domed stadium. When LOS first opened the T.V. announcers brought up the fact that the field had no drainage system, and that it would severely limit the ability to have events with the roof open.
  24. Actually,a lot of fans show up for Rutgers games. They just tend to be fans of the opposing team.
