  1. Could someone please tell me where I can find a still of the uniform the Cavies had on for retreat ?
  2. My wife and I were in the upper stands in Allentown of Friday night. The drones were annoying. We were told they were the corps. No matter whose they are, one comes down, everyone gets sued. Saturday night we only saw one drone. That one was launched from the end zone area.No noise, just lights.
  3. I was reading on the Cadets thread where George said their score was going up 1 point a day. I never marched, but I've been following Drum Corps since the mid 70's. Usually ,throughout the season, there's a steady rise in scores. But it seems like the last 1-2 weeks of the season the scores, particularly for the top corps, jump big time. Can they really "clean" that much every day or is there some "score inflation" ?
  4. Troopers : Battle Hymn of The Republic w/ The Starburst
  5. My wife and I were at Clifton last night. What didn't make sense was delaying the start of the show. The first batch of rain ended around 5:30. This was consistent with what the weather radar was showing. The radar also showed the skies clear after that. Synthetic turf can be "played" on in less then 30 minutes. I'm not saying they would have gotten in the full show, but knowing the forecast, had they started on time and skipped INT, they could have gotten in 2- 3 corps before the second batch of storms showed up.
  6. Maybe,if the weather looks like its going to an issue, they'll forgo intermission.
  7. After watching Crown on Thursday, I was wondering in anyone out there knows if Crown's stagecoach has to be dismantled to be moved ,if they can fit it in one of their trucks "intact" or do they "trailer" it ?
  8. Does that mean that alternates can get their jacket or ring ?
  9. A comment and 2 questions: I realize they don't pay a fee,but I know that a number of college marching bands have alternates. Is an alternate considered a "full" member of a corps ? Do alternates participate in corps functions such as parades ? i know that in some colleges the alternates march with the band, they just don't perform on the field.
  10. For those few of us,who aren't on Facebook, could someone please post the picture.
  11. I just watched a video of an interview the Cadets DM did with an Allentown radio station. One of the first things she said was that the Cadets were getting new uniforms this year. I've checked this thread occasionally, but haven't read all 300+ pages. Anyone know anything about this ?
  12. There's been a lot of news in N.J. where I live concerning transgender individuals. One school district just voted last night to let transgender students use restrooms and locker rooms for their "preferred" rather then biological gender identity. Just wonder if anyone knows how corps deal with this. Another potential issue ,if a transgender male , who still has female genitalia, wants to join the Scouts or Cavies, how do you think they will handle it ?
  13. I've read a couple of Bruce biographies. Never saw any reference to him marching in a band or a corps. As far as i know,Bruce started out playing guitar and during his careeer branched out into other instruments like piano and organ. Don't know about him playing brass or percussion. Being from N.J. I always wondered why his music wasn't used by corps and/or bands. I was told that it is really hard to get his permission to use his music.
  14. My wife and I are in the M&G Club. Yesterday we got a video emailed from George (goooosebumps). From what he said, the memebers of the visual staff had issues with making the "stoned" concept (statues coming to life) work. The new show will still use statue concept (guess they ordered the costumes),but in a different way.
  15. Following your logic. 1.Better not let corps members see weather reports the may worry about predicted storms. 2.Same with traffic reports, what if that accident cuts back on warm ups ? 3.Better not let corps memebrs follow the news, they may get upset and not be able to concentrate. 3.Then again if their favorite basball team loses, who knows what will happen. Most of the members of the top corps are young adults, in college. If they aren't able to deal with someting like 'recaps' how do they handle the pressure of college, let alone real problems. ?
  16. Don't know if anyone has brought this up yet. Its hard reading through 22 pages of posts. If I'm reading this correctly,a corps will be able to see their own recap, but that's all. To me that takes away the ability of a corps to see how they "stack up" against other corps. You would only know that you won or last and by how much. You wouldn't be able to compare "catagories" to see where you're weaker or stronger then your competitors.
  17. Let me preface my comments by saying that I never marched. As a spectator I always wondered why you needed to have judges running around the field. To me it seems the distraction/interfearance on the part of the judges, outweighs any judging benefit. My wife and I discussed this once with a DCI Judge. She really coudn't come up with any reasons why you have judges on the field. So for me,yes to #7.
  18. I read an article about this a while ago. Accoding the article, most people tend to leave the volume on the their phones, music palyers etc. as high as it can go. Combine that with ear buds that direct the sound dierctly into the ear canel, and you're looking at potential problems. According to the article,in a few years there are going to be a lot of people with hearing issues. The article said its also a big problem for people in radio who always wear headsets. I know when i walk past people at the gym I can hear the music coming from their ear buds clear as day. That can't be healthy.
  19. Just want to add my $0.02 on this topic. I've designed a number of synthetic turf fields. A few years ago everyone was in a panic over lead in the turf. Early versions of synthetic turf used lead in the green turf,to reduce fading. But it was "encapsulated", meaning that the only way it could be an issue was if someone ate the turf. It also turned out you needed to eat something like 150 lbs. of the stuff for it to be a concern. The CDC came out with a report saying this, but people still paniced. The current worry is "crumb" rubber. I can't find any objective study that shows any corelation between "crumb" rubber "infill" and players developing health problems. Given the number of fields that use this "infill", if it was as "dangerous" as some people say, there should be numerous, not isolated cases of cancer. Everybody is concerned about "crumb" rubber for athletic fields, but they have been using pretty much the same stuff (rubber muclh) on playgrounds for years. Kids roll around in that stuff and I've never read of any problems. The biggest problem I know about for "crumb" rubber is that it will get uniforms dirty.
  20. To me,the issue is what does DCI consider the driving force to offer the shows digitally (DVD,CD). If they wish to use them strictly as a means to bolster the activity, then demonstrate to the "powers that be" that they are being sold "at cost". If, however ,DCI uses them as a revenue source,I can see why they would be subject to the same fees as anyone else.
  21. I know that for the past couple of years DCI has put the 2 night Easts packages out around October 1. Haven't seen anything on DCI's web site or gotten an email. Anyone know anything about this ?
  22. I have a nephew who is a professional guitarist. He started out recording his music in a digital medium, but now swears by analog. He says analog gives a much "richer" sound. He also uses "tube" amplifiers. Again, says they give truer sound then the "chip" ones.
  23. Thing is,based on past years when I got the DVD'S ,if you called about them they would give you an idea when you could order. The fact that they didn't say "Not available at this time, but ... " isn't comforting.
  24. I must be missing something. When I look at the store I only see 2014,not 2015.
