  1. My girlfriend and I had a fight a few weeks ago about drum corps. I think about marching constantly and she doesn't want to hear about me wanting to get back on the road. I find myself trying to find out news about 2008 every couple hours and I'm constantly looking for someone in the area that wants to talk about drum corps so that we can vent. In answer to your question, yes you can carry on a healthy relationship, but you need to realize that your boyfriend/girlfriend back home hasn't had the experience and might not get it. I came back much more mature than i used to be and it's hard to stay with someone that isn't as mature as you...if that makes sense. My girlfriend and I are still together, but it's very different from how we were before I marched. -Weedy
  2. a lot of the staff did march Star so probably a lot of the stuff they do is similar.
  3. I suggest you delete your post quickly unless you were trying to start up a storm. -Weedy
  4. I think Madison is going to be more competitive in 2008. I talked to some of the members after shows and most of them had the attitude of "we could be dead last in div. 3 and I would come back". They are going to have a lot of vets and even if 2008 isn't the year for them, they had a young corps from what I've heard and if all of them have the attitude I just talked about, they'll be well off in a few years. -Weedy
  5. When we (Spirit) were still doing our old beginning to the show, there was one time we started the show before they had finished introducing us and they didn't announce our name until right when we turned around for the full hornline entrance. It was kind of annoying to be on the field during that, but it was also kind of cool the way the crowd reacted to it. -Weedy
  6. you just can't get enough drum corps, so you get internet added to your phone so while you're on tour you can keep checking DCP. B)
  7. just last night our drill writer was telling us how suncoast sound started 1989 with a 46 and increased enough to knock Spirit of Atlanta out of finals for the first time. that's an impressive jump.
  8. this one is sort of different... i march with spirit (i am on the way to benson now) i had found out that the owner of Obryans near my house had at one point marched with the Scouts. So when i got sponsorship forms he was one of the first people I went to. We talked one night and he told me all kinds oslo drum corps stories. he marched with the Memphis Blues in 1983 or 1984 then marched scouts in 1988. he had told me to come back to him in a few weeks to get the sponsorship. 1 week before i left for tour i was driving down the road with my girlfriend on a road with construction going on. - was behind a red truck and i am thinking that it looks familiar, when all of a sudden they hit the break to go over a bump and i rear end them. my girlfriend and i are freaking out and as i get out of the car, i realize who i hit. luckilly, no damage was done to his truck, but i thought it was a bad time to remind him of the sponsorship. it was very embarassing but he was cool about it and gave me well wishes for the tour. -Weedy
  9. georgia, let it be me,may you never walk alone, autumn leaves, and everybody that gets jackets and something to wear around their necks
  10. wow I can't believe I didn't realize how many comments this thread had gotten... thanks for all the advice. It really helps me turn things over in my mind while i daydream. Hopefully it will come true someday. It's a lot of fun to think about things we could do in a show and stuff like that. Thanks again... I've got to get back to packing now. -Weedy
  11. Ever since I started getting into drum corps, I thought it would be cool to be in charge of a new drum corps. Being realistic we would have to start Div. 3. I'm only 16 so obviously this wouldn't be any time soon that I would start the corps, but how much do you think it would cost to start a Div. 3 DC and work our way up to Div. 1 after a 7 or 8 seasons? -Weedy
  12. One of my favorite drum corps moments is "Take it home Santa Clara!" I really don't think it's annoying... except for maybe when the guys copied it in '92... unless it was the same guys three years later, it's just not as awesome. -Weedy
  13. The last 4 minutes of '92 SCV 1980 Spirit Let it Be Me Madison Scouts Alumni with Malaguena -Weedy
  14. Hey you got a packing list and I didn't! haha I should probably go check my spam folder, for some reason about 1 out of 5 e-mails from Joel ends up there. I also am curious to hear what tips people give. See you soon Anne. -Weedy
  15. Ok... since it never was stated that it had to be during the show... Madison Scouts playing Ice Castles on that last chord with the mellohpone entrance b**bs or Spirit playing Georgia is pretty freaking loud. But during a show, I'd say '97 scouts on "The Chord" or '06 PR. -Weedy
  16. I'm not saying they didn't deserve it, but 1988 Madison Scouts were probably really surprised that they got first. I was talking to one of the members and he was telling me how they just wanted to beat Star and when they realized they had beat BD they went crazy and when they realized they won the whole thing he said they freaked out a bit. -Weedy
  17. I haven't cried yet while watching a show other than I teared up a little bit watching the Scouts alumni when I streamed it and that was more of a joyful feeling. This doesn't fit the question exactly, but I almost cried when I played "Georgia" for the first time after getting my contract. It got me when the trumpet solo was over and the full hornline came in... I got the biggest goosebumps I've ever experienced, my legs started to wobble, and my throat started to get tight. That's a feeling I never want to forget. -Weedy
  18. I had only heard about Spirit vs. Glassmen until now. -Weedy
  19. overhyped is 1999 imo. I thought it was a little boring compared to most of the SCV stuff. Underhyped... 1992 -Weedy
  20. I really hope things work out for you guys. I've met a few people that marched a few years ago that are now key members in their corps. -Weedy
  21. wow I haven't been this ###### off at people in general in a very long time. -Weedy
  22. The way the staff explained it was that last year they didn't get to teach everything that they could have because that group couldn't handle it and this year we can handle much more with this group. We'll definitely be able to learn more advanced stuff now that those 80% have the experience and they have really worked hard to pull us rookies up to par. And I know as a rookie I'm working hard in camps and outside of camps to be the best possible. I think that 80% really shows dedication to return and the rest of us are so excited to be part of this that we're all working hard also. I hope you guys like the show. I'm confident that you will. I can't wait for tour to start and to meet members of other corps and hear their stories and all that stuff. -Weedy
  23. oops i just re-read original post... sorry -Weedy
  24. Good reply Kassi. I'm jealous of you having been marching so long. Now that the topic of uniforms has come up, the members have all seen the uniforms and most of us took pictures at the last camp, but Ken very clearly stated that not only would we be disrespecting Spirit by sharing our pictures, but we'd be in trouble if it got out. It's a really cool look though, so it's all right to get excited. I doubt you'll be let down. As for the music, it's not old school Spirit (which most of us love) but i like the music that we've gotten so far. I think Hide and Seek will be a big hit with fans. The theme might be a little out there, but I don't think it will matter since the music is still good. I'm glad to see positive comments and I understand some of your concerns when you read that article. Don't let the extra fluff fool you. -Weedy
