  1. I agree concerning SCV, but most of the shows this year are very audience friendly. As someone who gave up several years ago on trying to understand the slotting process and the scores awarded at shows, I really appreciate the fact that so many shows are entertaining.
  2. I am so happy that Bozz has his own thread to hype his Blue Stars. I predict that the Madison Scouts will get the longest and loudest respose from the crowd attending the show -- allbeit, the show takes place in LaCrosse!
  3. I was at the Salem/Paddock Lake show Wednesday night. One person, commenting on another thread, suggested it was a Scouts crowd. I personally think it was more of a Milwaukee/Pioneer crowd. In any event, it was obvious that the crowd was much more responsive to the Scouts show than the SCV show. Yet, when the scores were announced, I did not hear any booing. Rather, there was loud and prolonged applause after the Scouts score was announced and merely polite applause after the SCV score was announced. I discovered several years ago that obsessing over slotting/scores tended to take away from my enjoyment of the shows. By the way, I enjoyed your snarky comment about the Tea Party!
  4. I don't put any stock in DCI's slotting process. If you want to know why, read my posts from 10 years ago on DCP. I am merely offering my opinion (backed up, I might add, by the crowd's reaction.) You are entitled to a different opinion. Vic Russell
  5. I was at this show. I didn't see anyone leave before SCV performed. In fact, I was surprised at how many people stayed for the announcement of the scores. I also don't think this was necessarily a Scouts crowd. All of the people that surrounded me were Pioneer fans. This show was close to Milwaukee. Yes, the crowd went crazy for the Scouts show -- I understand that nation wide, crowds have gone crazy for this show. As for the SCV show, it is not very entertaining. That was really evident after following the Scouts exceptionally entertaining show. Crossmen's show also seemed so-so after following a very entertaining Spirit show.
  6. I am really looking forward to seeing the Scouts in person tomorrow night performing their dynamite show at Central High in Salem/Paddock Lake. From everything I have read on DCP, the Scouts, like usual, are crowd favorites. It appears that this bugs some fans who are seriously involved with the minutia of the scoring cards and the slotting process (yawn, yawn.) Vic Russell
  7. No Scouts show tomorrow night. The Scouts are in Salem/Paddock Lake, WI on Wednesday night. I have tickets! Vic Russell
  8. Your concerns are not all that important in my view. The entertainment value and crowd reaction are going in the right direction -- the fans cannot get enough of this show. Keep up the great work SCOUTS! Vic Russell
  9. I have attended a lot of shows over the years, but I cannot recall fans disrupting a performance like corps staff have done. Last year I had the unfortunate experience of having 3 members of the Cadets staff sit on the steps right next to me. They displayed unbelievably obnoxious behavior and made the Cadets show impossible to watch. They continually hollered and stomped their feet, gave each other high-fives, moved around alternating between standing and sitting, and talked loudly when they were not hollering. Based upon that experience, I think corps staff should not be allowed into the stands while their corps is performing -- they should be limited to the field. Vic Russell
  10. I have an idea. You could start your own thread -- call it "Negative comments about drum corps shows." That way people who love posting negative comments would have their own little spot where they can go crazy without annoying fans who want to read and post on a thread dedicated to their favorite corps. Vic Russell
  11. I find it interesting that some people have this strong need to repeatedly post negative comments about the Scouts on the Scouts thread. I guess the problem is that not enough people are interested in their favorite corps to keep a thread going that is comparable to the Scouts thread. So, we Scouts fans are gracious enough to humor them here as we cheer on our favorite corps!
  12. I could not be happier with the Scouts show and performance this year. The people who obsess over scores seem to miss the joy of being moved by a corps performance. I think the crowd's reaction to the Scouts show tells me that many drum corps fans (not necessarily those who obsess over scores on this Board) are only interested in being moved and entertained by a drum corps show. Vic Russelll
  13. I think the Scouts should don Brewers caps after the Brewers sweep the Yankees in New York beginning tomorrow night!
  14. I just knew that Lombardi Field would be a great venue for the Scouts! Go Scouts and Go Packers!
  15. How great is it that the Scouts will be performing on Lombardi Field! Two of my favorites -- Scouts and Packers.
  16. Oldtimer, All I meant by this comment is that I am not a Cavaliers "homer." Some years I like the Cavaliers show (like this year) and other years I do not (like that "shave and a haircut/pop goes the weasel" show, for example.) Vic Russell
  17. When someone has Cadets in their DCP name, you have to take their opinion of the Cavaliers' show with a grain of salt. As a long time Madison Scouts fan (i.e., I am not a Cavaliers fan), I predict that the Cavaliers will win the 2011 Championship.
  18. I really enjoyed the Cavaliers and Crown shows. I predict a Cavaliers championship this year. The rest of the shows were ok except for the two California corps -- I didn't care for the Blue Devils or SCV shows. I thought both the picture quality and sound were sub par in the theater. I was hoping for HD quality. Vic Russell
  19. I am really looking forward to the Scouts 2011 show. It sounds like it will be top-notch entertainment (AGAIN) this year! Vic Russell
  20. An outstanding show in 2010, Scouts! I really enjoyed it! Best of luck in 2011. Vic Russell
  21. I note that very, very few posters on this thread have the Scouts at 11 or 12 in entertainment value. A majority of posters have the Scouts in the top 4 and a plurality has them first. So, I wonder, who is it that is "given to foolish imaginings" about fan reaction to drum corps shows in 2010? The good news is that it is ok to have a minority opinion about the relative entertainment value of drum corps shows. It is not ok, however, to inaccurately describe fans that hold opposing majority views as vaporous. Vic Russell
  22. Hey, Scouts -- what a great year! I am really looking forward to 2011. Vic Russell
  23. Congratulations Scouts! What a great regular season -- your show brought back the kind of emotions that I felt when the Scouts performed during the 80's and 90's! It is so great that a fan-friendly show is alive and well in 2010. Best of luck during finals week. Vic Russell
  24. Who could have guessed that this topic would end up bashing the Scouts. Very predictable! I am sorry the corps you support didn't get several standing ovations from the crowds attending live shows this season. Learn to live with it without bashing the Scouts. Vic Russell
