  1. Frank Vanvoorhis, one of the original founders of the Blue Stars got the name from a singing group of the same name. The reason I know that is bacause when I was at his home one night he showed me the record album of the group and I think the group was from England. He had spoken with Dave Dummer about it and Dave agreed. The Blue Stars originally being a color guard of course that evolved into a full corps, of which I was a charter member. Wow, I had forgotten about that until I saw the question. I don't think I ever told anyone in the corps about that night in the 7 years I marched. Also, because the group was from England, they chose the helmet for head gear. First Federal was added later as the sponsor. Well, maybe the group was from somewhere else.
  2. I was there watching that night. I was on the backside though. The era of ticks and they watched you up close and personal.
  3. I thought going in that Des Plaines would win. They had the show that year. How does one forget the Royal airs hornline? Their soloists didn't need a microphone. We were 8th.
  4. Um...I'm just wondering. There was also a rain delay at a big show like that in 1971. Any chance that could have been 1971?
  5. There are several. Since I am from " back in the day"... I'll say Des Plaines Vanguard. One of the classic all time uniforms for sure.
  6. The write up in "A History of Drum & Bugle Corps Volume 2" could be misleading. Always best to check the recaps if they are available. 1968 is incorrect.
  7. Is this from a TATTOO event in Europe? My son will be performing at one of those with Top Secret this week at the Netherland Military Tattoo. Snare 9 position.
  8. Well, I would agree that the Cavaliers were squeaky clean that night.
  9. The days of afternoon parades and evening shows. Might not hurt to do some of that these days to reach the John Q Public. Oh yeah, there used to be a big parade at nationals.
  10. Hmm...That's weird. I didn't ask that question. But I know where La Crescent is. Ghost in the system?
  11. I don't know. But it doesn't appear as if it would require much technical expertise to run to your next spot. Sorry, but that is just my take on it. So my answer is ©.
