  1. It would be easier on bari most likely, but that does not mean you will not make lower trumpet. Work at what you want, and if you don't make it, try out somewhere else. The experience will be well worth it to march the corps you want later, or you may even decide you want to stay with your family. I have a friend who was not planning on trying out intil I talked him into it. His primary is clarinet, and he had been learning mello a few months before. He didn't do as well as he thought he would when he did audition on mello and decided to try out on trumpet when there was a hole. He wound up doing much better as a 3rd trumpet than mello and is marching on sop again this year. Plus, if you're a great marcher that helps a lot too. Do what you want, and do it confidently.
  2. Ive never been on a plane, but I heard there is an extra free for extra luggage weight. Any info on that?
  3. Lol, too bad. I just didnt have the money this year. Loved it last yr though. I also just checked the site. They have 3 new members with 5 maybes. Guess Il email em.
  4. Anyone know if there are still holes and what the show is? Asking bc I know corps sometimes pick up ppl and forget to update the site....
  5. Also, does anyone have a schedule of times? I need to make plans on whether or not I will need to get a hotel. Thanks!
  6. Hey, can someone c/p the article? Everytime you go to their site they get money...and we dont want that. Plus, my cell isnt opening the page ;-)
  7. Yeah, I really don't like that. I was hoping the time was just a typo... guess not
  8. lol, I figured. I actually didn't think about corps offices though.
  9. I'm just curious, since drum corps do not actually stay in one place for too long or own rehearsal buildings and such, what happens to the accolades they receive throughout the season? I was just wondering mainly where the trophies stay in the off-season. Odd Q for right now in the season, I know, but I was just thinking about it.
  10. Okay, so I'm going to say this first, I love Spirit and everything they do, BUT I will be the first to admit I was skeptical when I heard about this year's show. *again* BUT After watching a few rehearsals and seeing how far this corps has already come along this year, I have no doubts they will max this show to its full potential by August. Now, to the bass thing. Okay, so the bass was overpowering? It was the first show! Even though it was a standstill performance, it was still just the first show. Like every corps, they will take note of their mistakes, work on them, and make the show even better. In this case, lower the volume. I don't see the whole problem in having a bass. It goes greatly with the show. It sounds fine. The hornline still has plenty of melody and awesomeness. Don't worry so much.
  11. I don't have any pics, but I've seen some cool stuff on DC-Eye of the carved DCI pumpkins, Delta-shaped Jello, dif corps unis frosted on gingerbread men, etc. I think when Xmen made their horn stack into a giant delta at finals one year for Spirit was really cool too.
  12. I'll probably be going to watch their rehearsal sometime at the end of this week or next. Sounded fantastic at the picnic though. I really love where this show is headed.
  13. I plan on going back to Spirit. I marched last year and, unfortunately, could not afford to return this year.
  14. Spirit had a picnic today previewing the show for fans. The corps is really working hard. They sound pretty nice for this early in the season. Dunno about other corps though.
  15. Yay hydration crew! I remember helping the pit with that, and when we couldnt find anywhere to fill up Id have to run into a CVS or WalGreens to buy gallons of water, out of my pocket, then run back to catch up with the corps. Good times.
  16. I've only marched a year, but I know how you feel. I can't march this season due to financial reasons. School just ended, and I have nothing to do. Ever since my friends left for corps, all I've been doing is wondering what the corps is doing at that moment and posting facebook updates. Seriously, that is all I've done ALL day. I am super bored out of my mind without drum corps, lol. I really wish I could be doing it this year, but like you, I age out in 2012 so I have a few more years at least. :-)
  17. I like the idea of alternates if the corps actually plans to use them. Last season my cousin and I were both offered mello alternate positions and took them, eve though we were a bit disappointed. We both wound up filling holes in the beginning of All days, but unfortunately I got a fracture a week and a half later. I guess I was just not meant to march, but I became a sidefield conductor and had the most amazing summer ever. This would not have ben possible if I were never offered an alternate position. To a few other posts, yeah if a corps isnt planning on using the alternate then they should probably pick somewhere else to march because they will probably wind up loving that corps and their new family. Either way, do drum corps lol.
  18. Spirit of Atlanta 1980. Honorable mentions are 1995 Madison and 2008 Crown.
  19. YAY sounds great! When I heard the title I was hoping they would do Lennon.
  20. Oh, I didnt' know they did Finale in '06. I only went to two shows that year I think. Yeah, Phantom does a pretty sweet encore. I think I'd love pretty much any song they whip out.
  21. We had Indoor yesterday, and it went pretty well without gloves. The football player guy I was talking about hasn't gotten any friction burns, the tuba guy has stopped getting them, and I don't seem to be doing any worse, so I think we'll stick to the no gloves. I appreciate everyone's help though. I'm kinda with Tansea on the no-glove thing. I like not using gloves, looks cooler. We've got callouses, and we can deal with what comes out of not using gloves, so it'll be all right. Thanks again everyone!
  22. Yeah, I'm sorry I don't know cymbal terminology. Um... I saw a pic of a grip on some indoor page titled the "Garfield grip," but it sounds like what you described, so that site was probably wrong. I'm pretty sure we use the West Coast. Well, we have a big guy who plays football on the line (yeah, weird I know, but he's great at Indoor)... and a cocky tuba player, and me... so we all kinda eventually decided amongst one another not to use gloves. We originally did use them, but it worked out a lot better not using gloves when we added the visual element of flips in the beginning. When we got to more complex things, like we are now, it seems to have been a bad choice because of the burns.
  23. I miss seeing my drum major's expression at the end of a great run, hearing the staff yell their same statements before each show, hearing the corps blasting in front of my face, shower songs, the weird movies we watched, being happy to sleep on a gym floor after a six-hour bus ride, PB&J, being tan, singing Salvation, laundry days going to eat somewhere, the off-night in Chicago, tour friends, my school friends' expressions after hearing drum corps at the B'ham show, completely outrageous remarks/statements that were hilariously random, listening to the corps play Georgia and Let it Be me, especially Georgia as an on-the-field warm-up, getting dressed on the bus and getting ready for a show, friends... maybe I should stop now. I miss drum corps.
