  1. Donated then read all these comments. Drum Corps is awesome!
  2. Comparing scores between shows isn't dumb. It is precisely why there is scoring; to measure improvement. It isn't perfect. But not all imperfect things are dumb. Bad attitude. Also, Didn't this already happen?
  3. PCSop451 I was a teenager in a div II corps with a loud mouth. I don't recall liking RAMD, or being terribly well liked there. However, addicted to finding out what else was going on outside of California, I checked it regularly. As I matured and RAMD didn't, I learned to leave it alone. My life instantly improved. I recommend not posting if you are a current marching member of a corps. It prevents skin aging. Though the Internet habit was easier to kick years ago...
  4. For PC to play the evening, they have to beat every corps that performs after them for 2 hours. I doubt the judges will work that out. But I hope they do!
  5. This reminds me of a joke we used to share on tour: "On the field, from Concord, California, with a score of 98.4, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome THE BLUE DEVILS!"
  6. RAMD was awesome when I started looking into drum corps. However, about the time Google bought Deja it started getting weird. I checked it again my age-out year and it was so pointless it made me angry. Then it was mentioned on the finals broadcast and I thought, "That's it, drum corps over." I found this place last year, it's much nicer. And EVERYONE are such good sp3ll0rz!
  7. While we were accomodating of faiths, we never promoted one. However, many of our programs contained Christian references. We would often refer to the crosses carried on the field or formed by drill as "non-denominational drum corps T's." It was valuable in that it taught us both tolerance and reverence. Both equally being crucial (no pun intended) life skills.
  8. Never quote wikipedia in an argument you intend to win. That said, I like my drum corps unplugged. Vanguard's fff marimba entrance in a quiet part at the Walnut show sold me. If corps directors want to ruin the activity for me, that's up to them. So long as a few of them share my opinion, I'll share my money with them.
  9. At lunch yesterday I heard a story on NPR about surviving cancer. At no point did I think it would have been enhanced by a drum feature.
  10. Give to PC every year since I aged out. I figure some of my income is their responsibility. Also gave to Dutch Boy last year. Liked their show, and Pasadena ain't a short drive for them! Go Northstar 1!
  11. Perhaps an alumna? Else your marriage may not be legal in Vegas.
  12. I just remembered I was killed on the field twice in my career. 1998 - Pacific Crest - Hamlet. Whole corps dies at the end, I got stabbed by a sabre. 2000 - Troopers - I was shot charging Rule Britannia-playing, low brass British muskets. It worked out though, I came back to life for the national anthem. Also, in 1999 one sop killed another sop with his horn in PCs Dracula show. Unfortunately these brothers were the only black guys in our hornline - and when staff was done putting it in the show and we were all "posing," the elder brother muttered, "Great another black-on-black crime." Hilarious! But also kinda sad. Certainly worse than a Sparticus show. No one seemed to care. But that was Div II, so it didn't actually happen.
  13. This is a great event. If I were emperor of earth the fireworks would be launched from the lot behind the back 50 so the stands could be filled correctly - also, I'd have a full retreat with the flags and majors front and center. As a warm up, since they only do it once, but also as a neat way to reinforce the patriotic aspect of the tradition of the activity. Otherwise, kick a!
  14. They are a great hornline for their size. Their guard is small, but that'll change - especially as LA kids make it into the stands to see this show. They totally sell the show, and do so without compromising performance quality. Their entrance and dance are klassic! I believe they have always added to the activity not just for the fans, but they attracted a different kind of membership that might have sat home. Exposing new people to the activity is crucial.
  15. I don't believe EZEric. To California kids "pop" is a verb and "chips" are who you avoid when speeding down I-5.
  16. Agreed - I think more of our defense spending should go toward drum corps. We should get a DCI lobbiest!
  17. If Cadets win, then we all will have enjoyed their dramatic mid-season re-writes.
  18. word! It is confusing. Either way, the answer is probably the War.
  19. I believe Fresno is the farthest from Diamond Bar any member hails from.
  20. 1998 Madison - mello trill then huge chord. 1996 BD - those two repeated notes took my drum corps virginity. 2000 BAC - pretty much the whole show 2000 Cadets - tenor feature 1992 VK - Jaws oh and just about any time they played Magical Mystery Tour. 2006 SCV - cymbal flash just before they leave the field 1986 BD - closer Troopers taking the field Spirit in the parking lot playing "Georgia" SCV step offs And whenever PC plays "Show Me Your Firetruck" or "Ave Maria."
