  1. Not sure if this has been addressed or not, but is it possible that the reaction, or lack thereof, from Rosemont is because maybe someone forgot to ask Don Warren what he thought about the proposal? Seems to me that he is the type of gentleman that despite what may have initially been agreed to by others, when he found out, he put his foot down? Hence the mixed signal from the Cavalier's?
  2. Not knowing the whole situation and taking everything posted here at face value, it does seem a bit disengenous of the OP (being a "cymbal enthusiast"). Especially considering that for a good part of the winter and spring Jen and Donny were here letting all know that there were spots open at Pioneer in the cymbal line.
  3. If you get just the basic $60 subscription, do you get the live feed shows... Stanford, Denver, Minn, Allentown etc? Or are they pay per view?
  4. Yeah, I was over at the Troopers message board earlier today and they are doing the same stuff. Even thought they have performed the show in public, (in uniform), twice in the last three days. No secret squirrel pics until after the 22nd? Go figure. (shrug)
  5. In trying to understand CI, how does what CI Madison has given the new staff compare to Troopers and the wave they have ridden the last three years?
  6. Discussion boards, in genera,l exist to present the "Straw Man" "A straw man argument is a logical fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position. To "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is to create a position that is easy to refute, then attribute that position to the opponent. A straw-man argument can be a successful rhetorical technique (that is, it may succeed in persuading people) but it is in fact misleading, because the opponent's actual argument has not been refuted." One can set up a straw man in the following ways: 1. Present a misrepresentation of the opponent's position, refute it, and pretend that the opponent's actual position has been refuted. 2. Quote an opponent's words "out of context" -- i.e., choose quotations that are not representative of the opponent's actual intentions. 3. Present someone who defends a position poorly as the defender, refute that person's arguments, and pretend that every upholder of that position, and thus the position itself, has been defeated. 4. Invent a fictitious persona with actions or beliefs that are criticized, and pretend that the person represents a group of whom the speaker is critical. 5. Oversimplify a person's argument into a simple analogy, which can then be attacked. Based on their point of view, the poster will usually argue that the opposition falls into one or more of these categories.
  7. My guess would be that they are either insinuating or confirming that Academy and PC were the two other corps that voted with "the proposal"
  8. Maybe it has something to do with that Power Point Presentation. "My brain hurts" ($1 to DP Gumby) Man, whoever put that thing together never considered the reader. Message not withstanding, if you want prople to read it and by proxy take it seriously, then you have to do better next time... or have someone else develop it for you. I think that I just suffered a series of mini-strokes. Granny, do you have any extra Plavix around?
  9. Being white and a guy he's 2/3rds of the way there, so we have hope!!
  10. Yes, but until Mr Elfman is a dead white guy, I think we should pass on this one.
  11. Lest we forget the opportunity to affect/modify the current judging system to ensure the continuation of G-7 model? The G-7 stays the G-7 if you also control the judging that doesn't allow for the inclusion of others...
  12. Aw, shucks y'all. It was just a proposal... (picturing a little boy with his hands in his pockets, swaying back and forth, his toe making circles in the sand.)
  13. There is a reason that it is being sold with the bells and whistles. History would indicate that the originator/proposer operates in this manner to sell the product with an ulterior motive after the foot is in the door. As others have pointed out, it is interesting what is not being said or addressed. The rest of WC and OC? Buyer beware and whatnot.
  14. Ahhhhh, I see. Kinda like the "G7" degrees of Kevin Bacon.
  15. Just as important, one would think that the Boards of Directors of these corps should and would have had to have been involved in this decision making process. That, I suppose, would make for a whole other thread.
  16. So, a little birdie is sayin there has been discussion of bringing back brass en mass at retreat for finals this year and Battle Hymn is the music of choice. Or so the birdie says. If the birdie is right, more will get to play this classic. Gotta love little birdies.
  17. But, will you Tweet from the show with updates and scores? THAT is the question.
  18. Granny, In keeping with the first impressions, best foot forward in all that you do, etc. portions of this thread. Would you say that it is time for the Troopers to get a new souvie rig?
  19. I dunno, probably coulda done without the John Tesh type of offering in the background asking me about coming to feel the music. Not too motivating, but that's just me.
  20. David Reeves is the percussion arranger for Troopers, I believe.
  21. Sweet, this will save me $200 + in gas and a hotel room. Close enough to get WY PBS, two days earlier in the comfort of my home vs the trip to Casper for the premier. It does seem kinda backward, though. PBS showing it before the "premier".
  22. Do the Troopers get any of the proceeds of this early order/sale as opposed to getting one off of the souvie truck?
  23. This often happens when MikeD goes into "Rabbit Season... Duck Season" mode.
