So where doesn't it rain in August?

I guess I'm the one weirdo who likes it up high. My brain can filter and adjust the sound from up high but can't extrapolate the view from down low. I like to take in the big picture as part of the full experience. It is, however, more disconnected from the rest of the crowd. I will say I think the first few rows of 600 level sound a lot better than partway up the top half of the RCA dome did. That was like jiffy pop wrapped in bubble wrap and sizzling in a frying pan.

In Indianapolis? Are you kidding? Have you seen the stadium there? That would be insane! How do these crazy rumors get started?

I wonder if they didn't have the mikes turned down or away from the crowd out of concern for how it would sound if the results had been different. I think that would have been an understandable course of action on their part. But also, 2008 was more of a surprise ending to the Cinderella story. Sure she had married the prince once before but only to find out he was still married and watch him ride away with his other wife, and then 12 years later he comes out of nowhere to claim her as his one love.* This year, there may have been the newness of no previous matrimony, but the prince had already asked her out on 13 dates in the last two months before finally popping the question so it wasn't a shocker. Besides, she already owned a crown. How much foreshadowing does it take? __________ * Of course then she let her appearance go and he dumped her a year later, but it was romantic while it lasted. .

. I wondered about that too. One thing I notice is although drops seem more rare, I'm not at all sure that imperfect catches seem more rare. It seems like there are less big synchronized 'pop' catches that have always been impressive except for those times that one rifle that goes bouncing away from the line, and more soft catches that are not perfectly in synch. So I wonder if there is more of a 'bend but don't break' approach these days. I can see that looking better to new fans, who will be more dazzled when the equipment is in the air and less likely to notice how it's caught...unless it isn't. I would close by saying I know very little about color guard, but that is probably obvious by now. .

Sad. I grew up in Nashville and that whole middle tn / central my region has a great HS marching band history. I wonder if the entertainment industry could be tapped into for support. Some of those country music stars are very rich and very generous.

How can individuals' own computers and equipment be to blame when dci basically holds it out as something that should be easily available to anyone with a computer?

This is really cool. It might be awesome, especially for people with limited experience to see what goes on, to put this in a PIP in an upper corner of a normal high cam video of the show. If anyone has a good quality high angle video of the encore to work with, that is, don't know if DCI filmed it themselves. Or at least to combine it with good quality fan side audio. I know it is interesting to hear from the player's perspective, but a lot of people would be lost without hearing the full corps from the audience side.

I suspect what happened is he raised his hand with a number 1 sign, remembered at the last minute they were number 2 this year and quickly raised a second finger but for some reason that made the first one go back down.

I know this will sound 'out there' to some, but I think their most brilliant move was being the best corps on finals night.

I don't know, I can see that being the least divisive result, but maybe I'm naïve. What would have been bad would have been a tie 'broken' by some arbitrary tie-breaker rule no one would respect. Thank God they abolished that idea.
