  2. Uhhhhh..."a lot"? More like "a few". You're looking at a group that has won the title four out of the last six years now. Their feeder "B" corps has done the same in Open Class, including a threepeat in 2010-2012. Many of those kids now march with the World Class units, and carry their Open Class rings along with the World Class ones. I'm quite involved with the alumni, and I can only think of a couple of instances in which kids carry alumni rings onto the field. It's sort of a hype in those instances...more of a way for the alumni to connect with the current group and kids. Most just carry them on a necklace underneath the jacket, which I don't have a problem with. Not a fan of wearing them on the outside of the uniform during competition.
  3. Bluecoats, BD, Vanguard, Crown, Cadets. Haven't gotten to disc 2 yet (set only arrived on Tuesday)..looking forward to BK. Will likely view the rest at some point.
  4. Agreed. And yes, much of the sound was from the patches they used. I really enjoyed Coats' show. Very entertaining, and one of my favorites. They did a tremendous job of melding the horn and synth into a seamless synergy of sound. The pit/horn balance was off at semis, but they nailed it at finals. Pitch bend was a lot of fun, Acxiom was one of the best moments of the year, and for me, the bass drop (from the synth) at the end really made the ending work. I do find it interesting how many of the "old school" types ate this show up, while it probably used more electronics and enhancements than any show ever. Lots of props out there too...eighteen ramps on the field the entire show, and I can't recall one complaint about all the stuff on the field. Very well done show, and it illuminates how much people can enjoy a program if they just sit back and take it in. I'm as much an "old skool" guy as any, but I enjoy a lot of this new stuff as well. Don't get me started on woodwinds, though. Gotta draw the line somewhere...
  5. I can't speak for Thursday, as I didn't arrive until early evening to Indy. However, having not seen BDB at all this season, I was duly impressed with the high quality of the group. Saw them in warmups at the park, prior to entering LOS (was there with a friend whose kid marched PC). What an outstanding group...and I thought their placement was just about right. The thought that they belonged in finals? No, don't think so...but they aren't far off. As a former judge, I'm sure the jump from prelims to semis was more a function of "fitting" placements when in a large show format. Tendency is for there to be more disagreement on rank/rate as the quality of groups decreases...add in the need to leave room, and scores tend to spread. Once everyone has been seen, some scrambling of placements/scores will occur. Throw in an extraordinary performance here and there, you will see some dramatic movement at times. I thought the entire swath of groups from BDB through Mandarins were all quite good. It's important that these groups continue to prosper and grow, for the good of the activity. Let's hope so!
  6. Not trying to pick a fight here...and I like the Cavs, but you really need to go back and take a look at the high cam vid of Atlanta. Seriously.
  7. Have one seat available for semis...section 140, row 9, near 45 yard line. Selling at face value, $75. PM me.
  8. Also have a single seat available for semis, section 140, row 9, 45 yard line...$75.
  9. THIS IS A SINGLE SEAT. Selling full set only, prelims/semis/finals, Section 140, row 13, 50 yard line. GREAT seat. Face value $255. PM me.
  10. When someone puts all their horn players on clarinet, I'm out!!!
  11. Cappy, how so? Same judges, same system, no 'guest' judges. Only thing that is wacky might the order at the shows. BD winning by two, after going on early, is more remarkable in that I'd expect a smaller margin with that setup.
  12. Put the word out to some Open Class people I know. Hope you can move them.
  13. Email Melissa at the Colts. office@colts.org . I know they had some seats left the other day, I've personally referred a couple of people to the tune of five tix total...so not sure what they might have left. Lower part of section 641, $80.
  14. Check with Melissa at the Colts... office@colts.org . She said they have tix left in 641 down low...good seats, $80. Email only, she's on the road.
  15. Contact Melissa with the Colts organization. They have extra seats in 641 available, first few rows of that section. $75 + $5 = $80. Good seats, around 35 yard line. Tell her I sent you... :) office@colts.org P.S. - She's already on the road until Indy, so email is the best method of getting a hold of her.
  16. You're being kicked off... LOL. I'm not down with the draw approach, no matter how you slice it. This "everyone gets a trophy" mentality is a bit too prevalent now. There should be rewards for those that are competing at a higher level. While it seems somewhat fair to do a top six random draw, what happens if you have three groups that are virtually tied going into finals, and one group draws the #7 position while the other two draw #11 and #12? Might your group be denied a title because of a lottery? In a perfect world, the judges could make their way through all of it and accurately score the situation, but it's not a perfect world. I'd bet a dollar that if anyone's favorite corps had this example occur with their corps and they finished second by a tenth, we'd hear some moaning from them.
  17. Excellent points. Not every show is geared to have everyone throwing babies. In fact, OP's opinion seems to indicate that they find SCV more entertaining than Cadets or BD...which is interesting because they have a soft ending. Bottom line, DCI is NOT producing a movie. Each show should stand on its own, and shouldn't be penalized if their show doesn't meet some arbitrary "thrill up your leg" criteria. Honestly, I like all of the top five shows, each unique in their own way. As outstanding as Crown and Bluecoats are, I don't find either of their endings much more or less exciting than what BD has right now (and it will likely get better). I enjoy them all. Let the kids be rewarded, based on the system that decides who wins.
  18. Horrible idea. They tried this in 1988 and it didn't end well (except for Madison, lol). In general, I agree that the defending champ should perform last if they wish. It was that way for a long time, but they've done away with that practice. To change it back now would be a slap in the face to all the groups that are earning their way into the late slots...not to mention 2012 Blue Devils. But I get that y'all are Crown fans. ;)
