  1. Do the Scouts get any support from any local businesses in the Madison area or the local government? Are they getting any money from businesses in Indiana? I think I read somewhere that they formed a new group like "forward progress" or something like that located in Madison, so maybe that is helping them to get local support. But, I would think not having a home base would affect donations to the Scouts organization.
  2. I just have a quick question. I'm not sure about the sync rights, how much it cost or how you go about securing them. It seems like all of the alumni corps have no trouble playing their old favorites while if a current junior corps has issues if they play more that 16 counts or something like that in their show. Please forgive me if this was discussed before but after watching SCV's alumni corps it just made me wonder because they were playing all of the old favorites, so I just wondered how they got around that issue.

  4. Wait a minute,I was at the Pirate baseball game tonight and there wasn't a drop of rain. Baldwin is no more than 4 miles from downtown.
  5. So is that the goal for Madison now, just to get into finals? And if they do make finals, will the alumni consider it a great year....mission accomplished?
  6. a When and where are the Crossmen alumni performing?
  7. Just look into the current members eyes and you will see the same look that every other Scout member had no matter if they laced up spats or are wearing a costume.
  8. Just out of curiosity, if they don't make finals again this year, does anyone think they will make some changes at the top? staff? board? They are .03 points from not making finals and last year at this time they were a solid 7th to 9th place finalist. I know it's a long season and we all know anything can happen but I'll bet there will be some upset alums if they don't perform on Saturday night again this year.
  9. I'm just curious, do they still have corps banquets in the fall or is that a thing of the past since so many members are from out of town?
  10. If the Scouts don't make finals this year, does anyone think that the powers to be will consider that the Indana experiment is not working? The average placement is worse now than when they were based out of Madison.
  11. Intermission - they make the show every year doing the same thing. (sorry, someone was going to do it, eventually)
  12. Boston's score jumped 5 points last night in Boston. I'm not sure if it was a full panel but thought that was a little unusual for this time of year.
  13. What is the main reason that we have the same 3 or 4 corps competing for the title and then have the same next 3 or 4 competing for the middle tier and then the same 5 or 6 corps competing for the finals 12 spot every season? Money? Staff? Location? (better weather) Better understanding of the judges and the sheets? Talent lever? (my feeling, but why do certain corps attract the better talent? ) You would think that once in awhile, there would be a corps that would catch lighting in a bottle and move up a bit or one of the top 3 or 4 corps would have an off year and move down a few spots but it seems like there is very little movement from year to year. This is by no means and attack on our activity. It's just a question from a fan that is not involved with corps as much as he used to be in the past.
  14. I wonder if the current members are interested in the scores or if they are playing Frisbee with the judges comments as they did in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's? I think many of the staff members are from that era. It seems like if you mentioned scores to alums from that era they still don't care, however, the older alums 70's & earlier, seem to be a bit more frustrated. My stance is that if the current members are enjoying performing the show and the crowd is enjoying the product, I'll take that over the scores any day.
  15. But is Cesario excited enough to bathe in chocolate?
  16. I'm so glad I marched in a era where there was no social media. I'm not a fan of the new Troopers uniform, however, I do understand why they made the change.
  17. They were booing Garfield"s placement too. I completely forgot about the Cavies turning in Hawthorne.
  18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMvJ5WU3qYQ After reading about the crowd reaction when BD beat Crown and the fact that some folks were upset about the booing, I never noticed how many boos there were in this old piece. If you go to around the 8 minute mark of this 1975 score announcements and listen to the crowd reaction to the scores, there were quite a few boos, mosty when an east coast corps didn't place higher.
  19. That's because the final score was 88.75 a combination of the two years the Scouts won DCI.
  20. Being an old school guy, I never thought I would say this but.....that amplified trombone solo is my favorite part of the show.
  21. One Direction is at Heinz Field tonight too so leave extra time.
  22. This wasn't at finals but at the American International Open in 1975 all captions were won by Santa Clara except for one (brass) but Madison won by the show by 3 points by only winning horns. I remember them naming off every caption winner as they were giving the scores that night and thought for sure the Vanguard had one.
