  1. Drum and Bugle Corps Also known as Drum Corps Very simple. Drums. Bugles. Everyone else making noise please go to band camp.
  2. I miss Drum Corps Chicks. Life without them is suffocating.
  3. I think the OP missed the boat by a mile. Not a single mention of knee high socks and over the calf leather boots. heh
  4. I was commenting on the squeeze hoping that Jim would detail the muscle and nerve interaction in relation to bone alignment, and then elaborate on the squeeze effect as it relates to energy consumption. heh There is no doubt that an off-axis wrist can cause alignment problems and lead to bad technique, but if anyone can feel an energy loss when a thumb is a degree off-line, that individual needs to exercise and spend more time playing their instrument.
  5. Traditional: rotate Matched: squeeze Thanks for clearing that up Jim!
  6. Folks, this writer is a phony. The post is identical in style and content to the attack on the online drum corps community a few years ago. Note the similarity in writing, and the practiced errors of punctuation, trying to imitate an internet newbie.
  7. >> As would any fan of a corps that received even a fraction of the crap _____' get. > The thing is, there aren't 15 million threads about the _____ _____' easy drill or park and blows. > There aren't 15 million threads about the _____' lack of a brass book. > There aren't 15 million threads about _____'_ tone quality at loud volumes. AS YOU WERE Now get back on the bus, and I'll see if I can whip up some directed criticism.
  8. Oh no! Let's hope no one notices the number of people common to both! Personally, I would like to see the DCI directors reel in the definition of Drum Corps before the academic world puts the breaks on supporting marching ban/s & drum corps. If the expansion of field pageantry steps on the opera and symphonic worlds too much, support will fizzle rather quickly. Like it or not, the patrons of those arts have long financial arms, fueled by a desire to propagate the traditional arts.
  9. Which topic? The one discussing a poorly written rule and cheating, or the new one?
  10. Yes please, shut it down. There is no place in drum corps for opinion. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING, right? Right. Good. As you were. Will someone please educate me here? I need to know how and when in drum corps history, where integrity used to rule the day, it became okay to break, bend, fudge, and otherwise ignore rules, respect and common sense.
  11. If there's a small corps near you, join up. Everything else will fall in place.
  12. I was 11 my first year with the Seattle Thunderbird Cadets. Seems like yesterday . . .
  13. What does a link to a public performance of a USA public school music department group have to do with the ban on DCI media?
  14. OMG Those groups are awesome! Is there a reason why the links are not posted so everyone can watch them?
  15. I like that analogy, makes sense to me. How's this for fun... Someone is going to ask for the definition of "signal". Someone is going to ask for the definition of "stretch". Someone is going to query WikipediA. Someone is going to google it. If you compress the signal at the output stage does it return to normal? (If I were in the Blue Devils I'd be LMAO over this.) (I would also be cooking up a way to mic a voice and sneak an onboard synth into the mix.)
  16. Heh... pitch shift a sop down 3 octaves and a contra up 3 octaves. Have each one play a solo, release the MP3's with the names swapped. Same sound lower/higher pitch my foot. ;)
  17. I love how modern corps have adopted marching band styles!
  18. What a great and fun idea! re WikipediA's integrity, the Troopers Sunburst was not the first curved form on the field as stated in the modern drum corps entry. Nice tribute; not factual. All the links after the article does not make it factual. According to this site, Purdue broke out of military ranks in 1907 and formed a letter "P" http://www.purdue.edu/Bands/aamb/history.html
  19. The same can be said for everything written here. It's all sourced and factual.
  20. Give me a practice pad, a mic, and a mixer, and I can change the sound to replicate a snare line. I'm not creating a new sound, I'm changing an existing sound. It's just a "changed" sound. Give me a practice pad, a mic, and a mixer, and I can change the sound to replicate a single bari for a one note samba routine. It's not a new sound, it's a changed sound. It's just a "changed" sound. Is that what you really want on a drum corps field?
  21. [ Looking in the rules ... ] This topic is so wrong in so many ways. ;) Ask anyone who they march with, and, well, you know... Seriously though, reading the wisdom of wiki... WikipediA Battery http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery WikipediA Drumline http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drumline A battery is a marching drumline, and a drumline does not have a frontline, and a pit is a section of a Drum Corps drumline, and a frontline is not part of a drumline, but a frontline is also referred to as a pit, What the Wiki? WikipediA, the Usenet of Encyclopedias heh
