I've never actually understood the rules for brass instrumentation in drum corps... I always thought it was bell front 3 valved instrument in any key... but older corps used slide valves, rotaries, two valves, etc... so it can't be that. Is it just bell front? Is it even that? If so, what's stopping corps from using trombones and sousaphones? (Other than common sense)

What part of the judging sheets gives the points for attempted demand? (Hint: they don't.) Don't get me wrong, I liked Crown better than BD last year, too... but BD was really really REALLY clean.

Teal Sound 09 had really tall plumes. They're almost as long as someone's leg.

Yeah, there's not much of a point in calling Bluecoats BC... because BC has the same number of syllables as Bluecoats. The only times I've ever heard Bluecoats shortened, people only say "Bloo" or "Coats".

I thought that Cavaliers 2006 was pretty clean, personally.

Even if DCI lets in woodwinds, there's still DCA. So, Drum Corps will never die.

SCV had an awesome book, imo. Look at more than just the snare parts. Also consider looking outside of the top 6. I really enjoyed Glassmen's book (even after they took out that speed-o-roll), Boston's book, and Troopers' book.

I'm sure people would join local corps, but there aren't many corps close to people anymore (and I'm not going to blame DCI, DCA, or anyone else for this; the lack of sponsors is the prime contributer). I'm lucky, there are 4 corps within reasonable driving distance of me (Sun Devils - 4 hours, Teal Sound - 2 hours, Boston Crusaders - 3 hours, and Spirit - 5 hours), but a lot of people aren't so lucky.

Correct. Something is illegal when it infringes upon someone else's rights.

I don't know if you've seen a synth player's sheet music, but the pages are black. They're playing music just as difficult as anyone else in the corps, and if you think that "any couch potato" can do it, I think you are sorely mistaken.
