  1. Anyways "well my opinion is _________" (fill in the blank) "well my opinion is crown will own everyone this year"
  2. Ohhhhh what the drumline never ceases in their attempts to create such big shananagins, atleast at our high school
  3. Here's what I personally see im only 17 but here's my idea. When the Drill writing software was first created and then perfected, same for the Music writing software. The corps directors, drill, and music writers could progress much further. So I know I talked to one of my band directors who marched back in the day with the chalk boards and all. I guess its like he said where as a whole you spend less time fixing the hand written errors on simpler drill and music, and more time perfecting Drill thats already correct, same for music. So I see it as each corps with the resources availbe theses days can expand in each area as they see fit. However I agree music does suffer at points, but overall they have the ability to make a good combination of both, I see in shows an area for both. But yeah theres my beating around the bush answer. Oh and I almost forgot FLAME!
  4. I like neither, but I guess were heading that way so ill take my medicine and say how Crown and SCV did it.
  5. Dude, my post, 2nd page. Anyways yes! I will say that you are right in jaw dropping, 02 04 and 08 were jaw dropping in their own aspects. 04 the drill corresponded extrodiarly well to the music in my view. 2002 not as much, but exquisitly clean, I still say its the cleanest marched in DCI history. 2008 was a bit of 04 and 02 put together minus cleanliness. The athleticism required for that show was pretty intense, the line jumps ohhhhh I still watch those.
  6. Dude watch the movie, hardly any of the corps "acting" is the movie.
  7. Gotchaaaaaaa, sounds like we need more of that in the modern day DCI.
  8. Ph and 95 cavies where they do that DNA thingy
  9. Well, I havnt been in the world of drill for that long, but cavies 08 in their line jumps was pretty cool. Zingali Z with Garfield. cavaliers 02 04 08 were always appealing to me. Thats the ones I can think of, and can actually name the rest is just block flips and what not to me, never had to many names, oh well.
  10. The way I see it personally is that its like this: People (yes some of my friends) know about DCI, but see it as a waste of money to spend 100's-1000's of dollars just to march for one summer. In my view if more open classes were to exist locally then a person can march at alot lower rate, and still have a summer tour. Then of course they would have their own top dog world class that they like. Therefore lots of towns and cities will publish in their papers the latest news of their corps success. Because like in Rutherford County(TN) You have about 8 high schools??? (to lazy to look) You could have people mass a small open class corps from there and therefore people who couldnt afford to go off and go bigger, or join a nearby open class can march at a cheaper rate. Man im rambling haha. Anyways just the fact that World Class became more elite, but it would be pretty cool in my book, if DCI officials would encourage and assisted state county's as a whole to create Corps, to band together to create an open class corps. Ive never marched (still in high school) but it seems to me that everyone talks about the future of Drum Corps, and how we can improve the activity, how to spread it and all. But if major counties in States were assisted in creating an Open Class corps, you would have local high schoolers that may not have alot of money, be able to have an opportunity to march? Over 50 yrs I mean the local Open classes will have grown, younger kids will have heard cool stories about tours and will want to take it up. Its not about putting money towards these corps or making new rules, its about expanding opportunity. By expanding the opportunities then the Organization as a whole will grow. I mean even though some people who start this probably wont live to see the results as they dream, they left something behind to grow on. Just a bit of my thoughts.
  11. ooohhhhhhhhhhh man thats gonna be sexy. If ol' DvD can get a mini-Crown hornline out of em then that will make my day.
  12. Ive not been around the drumc corps world for long, but you do get some sun in the south from all the band camps ive been at. Hence Crown, Spirit, and Teal. Take it Yankees (jk jk jk)
  13. Adding onto a post way back when in the pages, I would also like the say the Holst in Eb, parts of the Chaconne I could see being in a show and I think that mixed correctly you could have a bit of success to it, just an idea
  14. There's a piece in our symphonic band we're playing called "Othello" I can't recall the the composer off the top of myhead at the moment. However, we've (my friends and I) had conversations about turning it into a show, with a bit of variation in some areas, it would have potential to be a great show musically, I personnally can imagine some drill that would go very well with it, plus the guard could end up doing a bit of acting with it. No room for vocals, synths of electronics etc Moving on I see that as more of a Crown or a Regoment show, look it up sometime if you listen to it, you may end up thinkin the same thing, there is a recording on sheetmusicplus.com
  15. Just as a generalization, imagine the costs of the heat and all on the woodwinds, that would most certainly be a factor in cost, plus reeds, just give brass players snakes, music, oil, grease and were good to go and still cheaper. Woodwinds are expeeeeeeeensive. The End. Long Live Drum Corps International . Remembers its not woodwind corps international
  16. I would go with 2004-2008 any of those years, I support the 150 member size. However I do not in any way support the use of synths, amps, and what not. Vocals are alowed if there is no artificial help given as in speak in a bull horn, or what I prefer a shout or what not from the corps members. Thers my generic take. However just because of the recession I wish the age limit was increased.....
  17. Personally I say let the officials do their jobs, and what they're paid for. The guy if I was near him as in he was near an aisle way and I was walking by I would tell him to put it up unless he's just trying to get a quick shot of his kid at one point in the show, fine with me there. If he's recording and he hasnt put it away then I would "accidently" stumble into him knocking the camera around wildly. Anyways if he's in the middle of a row in no close proximity to me ill mind my own buisness, and let the DCI guys do their job.
  18. One of my friends (Drum Major) Plays Sax, he would like to march as he is, but his love is in woodwinds if Im correct, but He wants to be in the hornline or plate line, just as he puts it brass and percussion is just plain raw power. Quick generalization there, off to Jazz Band the 3 hours of Latin homework oooo fun, good night to y'all.
  19. I hope so, I wasnt able to make it to the one down at the IMAX this year.
  20. I feel like an ### haha, I was being smart with that answer I typed. Overall I guess I feel that its kinda like our high school band does it, where its a known thing and the story of why its done is passed down to each generation with the same story as told us. Thats about what I can make of it...
