  1. I agree. Furthermore, whats the major impass between adding another box - Box 5 - which WGI already has, for groups that 'Set new standards'.
  2. Nothing more nothing less. From th FB page. Thursday evening I said goodbye to 150. It was sold to a man named Sam from Montana with the intentions of turning it into a motor home. After I picked him up at the airport and we finished the transaction, we spent about three hours checking the oil, coolant and replacing some bulbs to make sure it was ready for hi...s 1800 mile trip home. 150 started strong as ever: I immediately smelled “drum corps” and was reminded of better times. 150 and the original 151 (totaled long ago) were the first two busses we purchased in 1998 when we moved Southwind to Lexington. I stood there feeling more empty than I have ever felt as Sam drove off. That evening I said a small prayer for each of you who had your lives touched by Southwind. I ask that each of you do the same and keep the memories alive. -Brett Owens
  3. This. In a show if you get the chance to talk to a with a few yrs they'll tell you how good the corps doing especially coming off of a 13th placement, how they can push into finals and how the show is a crowd favourite . [How 2009 never happened] Moving back east is not an option. I hope moving away from pop tunes is, that identity doesnt pay off on the field.
  4. I dont understand either, how DCI can be blamed for the weather, especially for a show that isnt typically in a dome. Now should the San Antone show get rained out... well. Thats frustrating but again outside DCI's control. I'm not sure what people want, should DCI have standby stadiums, 30, 50, 100 miles from a showsite, to the north? the east? the west? should shows be canceled in advanced if severe weather is predicted? No. We deal with it. Change is the only constant and other such sayings that you heard when you got off a bus at 7am and were told to suit up for the morning run. Deal and keep moving. Now, about those scores...
  5. WOW, someone thought Bones was Xmens DM... Well. Ya live ya learn. Any information as to when scores will be posted, and when dci will start posting scores as they receive them or is that still a finals week exclusive?
  6. Stop being a feeder corps? I really dont know what happened to 07 colts. I feel they can compete, taking glassmen I dont see happening, especially if scouts keep losing momentum; but dominating the other corps competing for 12-15 is a reality they could execute. Saw them in hutch the brass wasnt there, battery surprised me and guard can strengthen as well. They need to work, and clean. Cutting out an hour of floor time and cutting down on meal time and clean up time to give em a few more reps of show material could show some effect. End the drum corps fan attitude with some positive reinforcement [beatings]. By drum corps fan attitude I mean the complacency some kids develop over the summer, the 'I made a corps and am just along for the ride' as opposed to 'I made the corps now I gotta fight to perfect the show'. You know, that guy combined with a young corps.
  7. Second year streak! Hope they can keep this up, would love to see them back in semi.
  8. Which S. African corps were featured in the closing ceremonies of the World Cup?
  9. Thank you! Although idk about this 'improvisation on the field' you speak of... sounds like a slippery slope.
  10. Dear Tez, You mean an end to west coast inflation? Yours truly, KeepItReal ps MIDWEST IS BEST!
  11. I think its more a matter of Impulse winning a div III title and everyone leaving, just as VK came on the scene. Its also a matter of the open class corps in SoCal being feeder corps for World corps in the area. Also throwing onto the wonderful complicated situation is that some of these Open corps are charging tour fees similar to their World counterparts. I remember seeing a post stating VK being 26 hundred or so. No, when I auditioned at Phantom full tour fees including camps came to 2300. Seeing as the demographic for these open corps is mostly HS kids, I would think the best bet for sustainability of an Open corps is to partner with local marching bands as a summer training, and half some portion of the tour fees count towards band fees.
  12. I'm a bit tickled by all this. When a corps does something different they either fly or fall on they're face. Cadets 05/06 a prime example. I for one was wow by the audio from field pass with brass staff insight. Glad SCV is keeping true to their V. I also think that they're know the difficulty of the show and GE loss till more people become familiar with the show. Its gonna hurt em for a bit, the .5 loss in GE couldnt make up for being over .4 above BK in music. 'No risk no reward'
  13. hmm...so.... Malaguena- NOT SALSA GASP! I know. I know the show isn't latin but- 2004 Cavaliers welcome to Cuba. They nail it, I want to move whenever I hear this show. A few that come to my mind- Madison 1980, 1988, 1994/95 2002, 2005 and 2006. 2008, not so much, though 2009 was better. Phantom 2004 Apasionada - Tango, very nice BAC-2000, 2007 BD 1992, 1994 now, what I would love to see Pio do:
  14. They got us. "We don't want to look like we're using synth, but how to convince the audience..."
  15. Here here! Man, 1988 Scouts it aint over till the the NINE plates flank the soloist. That show in my mind is etched in placed by the rockin symbol line. Sigh. When I think Vanguard percussion, regardless of the titles or years I see this I was starting to think this with Madison: I'm guess those 4 slots went to tubas?
  16. Having seen Crossmen show, I'd say its a crowd favourite, a Crossmen Alumni favorite, but that doesnt equal judge's favourite. I feel confident tacking another 20 points on to whatever they come out with, the show is bare bones. I stated I believe BK will leave top 12 based on their downward trajectory the last couple years, especially since Blue Stars jumped out and knocked out Spirit. Also I dont believe BK is keeping the same vet retention rates as other top 12 corps, speaking on the experience of several BK alumni I know who did 1 year there before going top 6. It seems BK is almost a halfway point between feeder corps and G7. Gmen, I wouldnt believe dropping out of top 12 anytime soon, they seem to be a steady corps. I cant think of any other corps with as many near knock outs [of top 12] as gmen. They're the Rocky Balboa of DCI, always gonna gt back up and throw fists. Might not be glamorous and can sometimes get ugly, but they always pull through. Troop, I can agree with them having to fight to keep it. Last years program was one of those once in a blue moon. I dont believe Wanted will be as iconic and unique, but a high vet retention and a solid staff will keep them up in the pack. At least until they head east and the West Coast inflation thing wears off. Coming into the world cup Spain's national team had held a 3yr undefeated record. Broken only twice once during a friendly match against Romanian, and against team USA for the confederation cup. They came into the World cups favoured to win, but lost they're first game. AGAINST SWITZERLAND?! Now they're fighting just to make into out of the group stage. Anything can happen. edit to add Futbol[soccer]-ness
  17. I've been hearing about Pioneers new uni since may. Haven't seen it though. Are they waiting for delivery or are they not wearing it till later in the season?
  18. Well, since the cost of tickets and bad seating has risen the number of attendees who have never seen or participated in the activity has risen. And they NEED the 'APPLAUSE' sign to be turned on and off for them. Soon they'll add laugh tracks.
  19. In my heart of hearts I have a feeling BK wont be able to hold onto a top 12 slot for long. I love what tey've done with nimrod, but I unless their drill is stunning I cant see them keeping a place against a rebuilt Madison, a stronger Colts, and a Trooper corps that has tasted top 12.
  20. Lolz. In line with the talk of Phantom evolving, by august it'll be a zombie show.
  21. I can agree with the use of unprofessional. We are used to corps carrying themselves in such a manner. I understand it more as a call against how the guard was acting, not against their dress, which I assume was set by staff. my 2 cents
