  3. Hmm. is their room for a tired, old , retired K90?
  4. Actually , it's called Long Beach Royal Syncopated Regiment, We Had 8 snares 4 Tenors and 4 basses maybe a cymbal or 2 If you want us pm me and I will see what I can do
  5. Did someone call my name...? I was the founding member of that group.
  6. 2. Today, EVERYONE is talking about drum corps. Like the show or not, today the world is discussing drum corps. There are alot of conversations going on in band rooms across the country right now. Good, bad or indifferent - the're talking about what they saw. Ummm, Thats all we do here...but just to make sure , I'll head down to the local sports bar and see how many of the liqoured up locals are talking about "that marching band thing" last night . Btw:Emily... I might be home late :P
  7. Actually , you cant contribute to PBS to keep a particular show on, if that was the case all we would see is drum corps ,and Dr. Who reruns,. what killed DCI on PBS was a lack of funding from the U.S. govt. that forced the network to go to corporations for support, thats why you see those thinly vailed commercials between shows.
  8. PBS, thinks its boring ???? Have they watched any of their own 20 hr. civil war documentaries from Ken Burns???
  9. Bascially, Public Television told us a few years ago that their affiliates would have a lot less interest in running the DCI show if it were to stay as full length shows (they stated in no uncertain terms that the full shows were boring on television)....they wanted more smaller interesting clips to help viewers understand the whole activity and just small segments of corps performing..."snippets" I believe was the word they used..... ESPN2 basically gave us the same information when we presented the project to them last winter....... We (DCI) consulted Bill Kurtis - a national media consultant and A&E and Cable Television producer of Chicago fame - a few years ago with the longer broadcast, and he basically asked: "....and people watch this the whole time? You're kidding, right?" Get the picture? So, what Broadcast Producer Tom Blair (Cavalier alum) has done is make it more accessible to the masses, as well as to the decision-makers (PBS, ESPN, etc...) who decide what gets on the tube. If you really want to see the full length shows to appreciate the actual reality of what the activity is - and this has always been the case - YOU HAVE TO ATTEND THE CONTESTS. If you can't make the contest, you'll need to buy the DVDs or the CDs if you want the longer versions, or subscribe to the DCI Season Pass at DCI.org I guess what network t.v. is trying to say is that the American public has the attention span of a crack addict with A.D.D. I wonder where we got that?!?!?
  10. She's not the only one!... I have to say though it was a typical ESPN show, all style no substance, it was nothing more than an infomercial, I was really surprised that the DCI dvd commercial aired twice, that thing should have been shown at every commercial break!! Honestly though I almost wished I did not see the broadcast , yes the story about the Sop from phantom was inspirational, and the scientific bit about the Cavs tenor was interesting, even though it was a couple of years old...But I was disappointed ,I dont want to be the guy who say's "back in MY day..." But :) PBS used to show every note of top 12, plus a vignette or two and it was compeling we would see the compition progess, try to guess the scores and be able to appreciate the Championship performace because we saw everything leading up to that moment . Now I understand that airtime is expensive whether its PBS, over air network or cable, but please ,would it kill you to show the entire shows of the top 3? ..#### I wouldn't mind the top 2, but 1 song and in some cases not even that was not worth 2 hours of my time, I found myself doing dishes, answering email and cleaning the cat box during DCI Finals, in the past I would have lodged the remote in someone's ### for walking in front of the screen.
  11. Hey Sam rember the photos from that year, it looked like white paint on a dirt parking lot.
  12. Yes it was '84 for the pile up , someone mentioned the field bieng wet...I really dont recall that , I remember it being a warm night with mosquitos the size of sopranos digging into us ( at least at retreat) nor do I recall them winning visual or the show that night, Im pretty sure that was B.D. My trivia question about 27th is what show and what year was it the sprinklers came on during the re-entry...great G.E.
  13. Actually I own a K80 and a K90, the 90 is the best Contra to ever hit the field, although it has a smaller bore than some of the newer horns , it projects farther and with a deep warm tone. The K80...well start doing push-ups ,I swear sometimes I can see where it still says Buick on there. but it too has a warm nasty tone.
  14. OWWW!!!! :( Im sorry that is a first ...anything chiropractors can do?
  15. It is good it means your filling the horn with air and sound,,,I had to get a second spit valve put I my K90, it would blow past the first one and end up in the wrap.!!
  16. NICE!!! so lets all sit crossed leg (formerly indian stlye ..thanks P.C.ers) around the camp fire and hear the stories. B)
