  1. The district still is restricting rentals and uses of interior spaces “through the start of next school year,” with the exception of groups involved in summer school activities. IE housing
  2. I would be surprised if they were to announce an Allentown DCI event. From what I have seen in corps that have announced their summer intentions most have some idea that they would be regional in the midwest and maybe some type of a texas tour for corps in the southwest. Going to Allentown would be completely out of sync with their previous intentions and entail a great deal more tour planning and expense. Things are changing quickly but in my mind (which is wrong quite often) I don't see an Large Allentown event happening. Maybe BAC and Cadets doing an exhibition, but not a major event.
  3. The last time they went over it was in Sept Oct they did an exhibition at DCE finals then went to Switzerland. So most of the DCI corps was probably back in school. Also one reason the season was cancelled was the bingo hall was closed for a while and they were unsure of their finances, It states in the announcement that they have found other sponsors for this tour, and it is very much not written in stone yet.
  4. Crown would not be in the geographical footprint of that group, I had heard rumors of Bluceoats possibly doing midwest, but not east, and Crown possibly doing Texas though I havn't seen anything lately to suggest that.. I hate to beat on people who are down, but I think GH had a lot to do with crushing many East Coast corps, destroying the old Drum Corps East.
  5. Plan on being with a corps in the food truck, depends on what their housing arrangement is and whether they will need a food truck. Do they set up food trucks in a hotel parking lot ? If I fly up I would like to spend at least 2 weeks working with the corps I am not that sure I would come up for just a 4 day stint and if it is that short a stint they should have too many volunteers
  6. It is a set of Domino's. Before you can really look at housing you need someone who will host the show and a place so the corps know where to go. Normally the show dates are finalized in Jan and Feb so corps can begin filling in housing details. Corps who have been doing similar schedules for the past 20 years have networks of past housing sites and Alumni who work in school bands and often don't need assistance from the show host. This year though I think there is going to be a lot more reliance on the hosts as the Covid has thrown a major wrench into the old system. Until I see show dates announced I am not too confident that a tour will happen. Right now Corps are normally also making sure they have bus and truck drivers, the drivers are probably the most most important part of the marchers safety and having the right drivers who understand DCI is vital.
  7. Normally this time of year Volunteers are marking their calendars, finding places where they can join the tour, taking time off work or pleasure so they can help out the corps for a few days or weeks. Volunteer coordinators are filling in the holes making sure they have coverage for the entire tour. Bus companies are making sure that drivers who know the Drum corps daily rhythm are blocked off for the summer. Truck drivers are clearing their schedules to make sure they are available. This late in the year not knowing what kind of a schedule they will have, if any has to be really tough on corps staffs. Corps becoming national in scope makes it very difficult to do some type of limited regional summer as some mid west groups have expressed an interest in maybe doing. It takes a huge army of weird goofy dedicated volunteers to keep a tour going. The system has been built on helping corps you like regardless of geography, just meet the corps and ride with them for 2 weeks. I am not sure people will fly from CA to work the food truck in Chicago for a 3 days regional tour weekend.. Does a 40 member soundsport require the food trailer to get out and be pulled by a semi ? Do you fill one equipment trailer and leave the others in the parking lot ? Will parents pay thousands of dollars for a 3 weeks summer program ? For marchers they don't know what the future brings . I understand that next year they might get that great internship, or financial situations might change and this may be their last opportunity at some type of DCI experience. I hate to deny kids an opportunity, but I just don't see the season coming together. I have been hacked out of my Facebook account for several months, and that is where I get most corps announcements. To the best of my knowledge I havn't seen any announcements of shows being hosted yet and it is really hard to plan schedule based on a bunch of maybes Sorry for my ramblings I woke really early and have been thinking a lot about my summer plans and am frustrated that I cannot pencil in the days to be with the corps
  8. I was watching "Lady and the Dale" on HBO. They had footage from a Christmas parade in LA in 1966, and the clip they show was Monterey Park Girls Drum and Bugle Corps. The name is on the bass drum.
  9. My experience with Regiment is that they have a pretty solid admin team. Hopefully they will put a lot of thought and elbow grease into this and do it right. Personally I don't see the upside outweighing what could go wrong, but I have been wrong quite often
  10. Also those new members will have 2 less years of Marching Band. So some will be starting from ground zero.
  11. I don't think they will have very many events, the risks of hosting are great. I had originally thought the cost for a maybe 3 show season would drive a lot of people away. However I looked at WGI many teams there do 2 regionals and finals. They get no apearence fees and many stay at hotels. The school units may be subsidised but members of independant units pay a lot of money for a very short season. I have talked to some people who know more than I do and they were looking at maybe 2 shows then finals however nothing has been confirmed. Personally I think for the money it will cost it is not a great value, however if a marcher planned on marching in 2020 and next year you will finish school and move on and no longer have summers free this may be their last chance to do something drumcorps. I just hope that no corps run up debt to go to Indy this year which would prevent them from coming back for competitive seasons later on.
  12. 1985 Bridgeman had Christmas music, however I understand there are no recordings or videos of that show. Not their finest moment.
  13. I know there is no show, but are they going to have an awards ceremony for the Bucs anyway since they would have won ?
  14. I am sure the members would be happy to pay union dues and to have a union rep with each corps making 6 figures. Then politicians would come to them before every election and promise that they will keep other musicians from performing in their territory so long as they fund their next campaign. Then they would have to make sure the corps do not perform in "right to work" states. Maybe force High school bands to unionize in closed shop states. Yup it is a great idea.
  15. I was watching an interview with some program coordinators back in May. They were talking about how they hired a lighting consultant to analyse the lighting at Lucas Oil and chose the colors used in their show based on that. So I am pretty after corps have spent money like that the roof is not going to open.
  16. I think the facilities thing will cancel most WGI . I am heavily involved with one of my local theater groups cfrt.org . I had a long talk with the artistic director a few days ago and we plan on having theater in Sept and Oct. While we own 300 seat theater, the first show of next season will be presented outdoors and with spacing for social distance. there will be a super sound system and we can only have 130 people in attendance in clusters of no more than 4. It will be different but at least the actors will act and loyal patrons will get to see theater provided it doesn't rain.
  17. I had thought that in the past 20 years DCI had done a pretty good job providing a safe space for minority marchers. I know that they have made many LGBT people welcome in corps and has been a safe space for that community. I can only gauge outreach to the black community by looking at the # of African Americans marching and it seems to have dropped slightly the last few years based on a casual glance. I had thought DCI made a positive impact in the community. I now realize that DCI has wronged marchers of different backgrounds and that most corps felt that they needed to apalogize I am not sure what they apolagized for but if they had to do that they must have done something wrong. I know that they have police at most events which may be traumatiic to some members and unsettle them, yet the police are present at most events. They force the members to go to Atlanta every year which was a big center of commerce for the confederacy and that must bring painful memories to marchers who have to realize that the people on the statues that torture them once lived in that city. I had planned on giving more to DCI this year and next and had planned on volunteering. However since they work with the police who traumatize so many young people I will have to find some other place to help out.
  18. Dundalk and catonsville also canceled pretty sure the others will be canceled
  19. I was just wondering id any corps have made plans for 4th of July Parades or if they have heard if they have been canceled. I have always thought these parades were a great way for corps to make money and to expose a wider crowd to the marching arts. I don't know how much it would take to pull the corps together for maybe 3 days of parades.
  20. I have read his book "So you want to start a drum Corps" 3 different times and every time I get a different view on what he did and how it effected the activity. I think as I have been more involved in logistics some things make more sense. He also explains why he took Star out of DCI, I am not going to paraphrase but I think it was for the good of eh activity. Every other week I go and pay money to a woman to send painful electric jolts through my face to get rid of nasty hairs on my face. She is from Indiana so one day I was telling here about how we wind up in Indy every year and it turned out that her sister in law lived in the town that Phantom Regiment stays at during finals week. I mentioned that there had been a Corps in Indiana at one time and then she told me that she knew about Bill Cook not from Star but because he had saved a town near where she grew up, restored lots of buildings and guarenteed living wage jobs to people who worked at an old resort that had been closing down. His philanthopy extended well beyond drum corps. When I marched I think we were a little jealous of Star. A lot of Corps were not well managed Broken busses were an everyday thing and even food fir the corps was not always a sure thing, So to see them with new busses and equipment for a corps that hadn't payed their dues made some folks jaded towards them.
  21. We are offering the following options for the tickets you purchased through our Ticket Fundraiser: · Donate your ticket to (well managed DCI Corps) as a tax-deductible donation As a thank you for your donation, you will receive a membership in our( club for donors) · Push the amount of your ticket order forward to apply to your 2021 ticket order · Refund your ticket order, or a portion of it The $5 per ticket handling fee is non-refundable and not tax-deductible So it seems that if you bought through the corps you at least have the option of a refund.
  22. 200 people? One, they could be counting every person who gets some money from the BlueCoats, every advisor, prop designer, summer tech, etc, plus bingo hall workers. I know Carolina Crown and Phantom Regiment each have 2 or 3 full time employees everyone else is contracted for their specific job. With season canceled I don't know how liable they are to continue paying those folks. If MM can be released from their contracts I imagine the corps could also cancel instructor contracts.
  23. Back in the fall there was quite a bit of discussion on here about the guidelines that DCI set for corps being approved for World Class and Open Class. A lot of that was in response to the situation with Pioneer but many of those ideas if put in place would help out the corps in a situation like this. One was a financial reserve I think it was 50k for World class corps. I don't think they were thinking of this happening but those that had that are better off now. It also said that corps should make efforts to ensure they have non tour or dues revenue I think the # was 40%. I know that a lot of this was theoretical, I mean who doesn't want outside revenue, However I think that there they recognized that that old models of running corps needed to change. Hopefully corps listened to what DCI (made of their own leaders) put out and will be able to weather this storm.
