  1. Every year i seem like i hope more entertainment value is put into the judging. A show shouldn't be champion if its not an entertaining show, even if its a sound show with great execution.
  2. SCV lost the title for most sanfords a few years ago. Im pretty sure BD and/or cavies jumped them.
  3. Predictions... SCV takes my show idea that i will be sending them, and medals with it. What is the show idea? Thats for me to know and you to not find out. Crown does a show titled "A Second Chance, Again" and does not win, again. Needs more cowbell. Cadets do a repeat of the Power of Ten until they win an 11th title, then their show will be the power of 11. Fun fact, i prefer the number 11 to the number 10. Blue Devils understand that they cant three-peat, and because of that they do a show where everyone uses keytars andvelectric instruments. The activity is pushed forward, and allows Bluecoats to use these concepts in 2017. Bluecoats try to get gold with a show about alchemy. It works! Apparently all it takes is to combine the right amount of silver and bronze. Take that Newton! Blue Knights follow this year with another existentialist show. 2016..."why?" its a show about aristotelian metaphysics. The judges unfortunately are platonists and BK falls out of the top 12. In retrospect they find they should design shows by using the socratic method. Phantom Regiment decides to go dark. Black uniforms. And they do a les mis show. Most might say they are late to the les mis party, and to them i say "correct" Cavies switch it up. After a few years of aggressive manly shows, cavaliers do a copeland show. Why? Its been too long since we've had one. Madison figures "why change whats working?" and go big on NYC. A show about building the Empire state building. Where they build a very large structure throughout the show. Dangerous? Yes. But cmon, dont you want to see a corps build a 30 foot high tower at LOS? Boston continues its aggressive attitude it has gained over the last few years by doing a fight club show. I would tell you more about it, but ive already broken a couple rules. Note, these are all jokes.
  4. BD rehearses during finals week indoors. Also irs clear corps design theor shows to be done in lucas oil. Its why electronics are being embraced, because there is no chance of it raining if its indoors. Look at the huge banners for crown, a mess outdoors in the wind. Perfect indoors.
  5. The corps needs a winning concept that can allow each aspect of the design be used to its fullest. This was the closest year in a while in terms of concept, and i think in a different year when the rest of the top 5 isn't so close and strong, this show could have medaled.
  6. 1. BK 2. SCV 3. Crown 4. Bloo These are the shows i will continue listening to after the season
  7. 1. Crown 2. BD 3. Bloo 4. Cadets 5. SCV 6. BK 7. Cavaliers 8. Phantom 9. Madison 10. Boston 11. Crossmen 12. Blue Stars 13. Colts 14. Troopers 15. The Academy
  8. I wish i knew. I want to hear the tape. The judge tied crown and Cadets, and scv and cavies in rep. And also cadets and bloo in performance. Also BK's show is incredibly musical and narrowly edged out ScV in GE2. But really, i just don't know.
  9. My musings on tonights show... I just had some fourth meal so im ready to go. Phantom- last time i saw this show was Stanford on the webcast. I thought it was a show with great potential but was incredibly sloppy. The show is still entertaining, in between getting hit in the head with a baguette as i sip coffee i made in my French Press. Visually i enjoy the show, musically its got some issues with balancing with the electronics. They also at times compete with the voice over, which just does not work. Lastly, i was confused at the show. The show was best when it was focusing on the corps and the music, and weakest when it focused on the narrative. What narrative? Exactly. The character makes just a few appearances, and doesn't seem to appear in the closer until the very end. And she acts like we went on a journey with her, i did not. Also the feather boa left feathers on the field, were they penalized? Blue Knights. All i can say is "wow". I am digging BK being the existentialist corps. Their shows are increasingly more satisfying, especially now that they are really showing off the musicality of the corps. The trumpet solo almost blew my head off, but i was sitting directly in front of their speakers. This was the only unpleasant part of the show. Some of the narration i could take or leave, but they balanced very well to it and their other electronic effects. Lastly, there was a moment where i finally "got" the show concept. And this almost brought me to tears. Its so very beautiful and delicate. This show deserves its 6th place spot. Cavaliers. Typically i find their shows to be silly, this year is no different. Its the type of show that grows on me during the season. What in June was an underwhelming show, now its enjoyable. During the Run Boy Run section i enjoyed seeing the judge running as well. I feel the staff has really improved on their balance between electronics and the show, its still not perfect. I still don't understand the show or why the guard members have bar codes on their pants. But i dont care. Game on. Cadets. Positives first. I do like the Black look, i wasnt sure if i would. I also liked several musical features during the show, and their balance was incredible. Negatives... I felt their guard had the least energy of the corps performing today. I think the design team think they are being clever with how many ways they can fit 10 into the show, in my opinion 10 too many times. I don't find the show to be clever nor do i find the changes and the show itself to be organic. It all seems very forced. Crown. The show i never thought they would attempt. They weren't pulling it off early in the year, but now its firing on all cylinders. Amazing brass, as usual. Guard was top notch apart from the 3 drops i saw. The banners worked today without any issue, that i saw. Only downside is the "abandon all hope banner" smells ripe. Need to febreeze that thing. Really hard to criticize the show... The finale seems unrefined. Vanguard. The most electronics ive heard from SCV, and they tackle it lightly. The theramin was fun to see used. The lights were impactful and lovely. The electro beat used during the pure imagination was definitely weird. I didn't mind it, but it seemed off. Maybe because i was sitting in front of the speakers. Best ballad of the season, again. I think this is 4 years in a row now, for me. I don't understand what is holding this show or this corps back. Their effects are as good as anybody, their guard is as good as anybody, their percussion is top tier, their visual design is gorgeous, and their brass line doesn't seem as bad as they have been scoring. As a fan, i just love the show regardless of placement. But i really felt this show could medal. Oh well. Bluecoats. Clever use of technology. A bit much on the narrative aspect, but i got over it. I love that they have a non electronics section in the show to show off the corps and show that they don't need electronics to be loud and balanced, but they use it because it gives them a lot of room for creativity. Too often corps use electronics to cover up the corps, they use it to enhance it. Its a fun show that isnt thay deep but i still enjoy the heck out of it.
  10. Love love love love love BK's show. First and only time i'll see it live (not theater or webcast) I "get" it now. Favorite BK show of all time. Brings me nearly to tears. Awesome show.
  11. This is the first time in a few years that i won't be attending my home show, sorry Garfield. Nothing against you, of course. But the venue is as good as it gets in terms of dci. Its ran very well every year as well, and ive never had weather issues at dci dublin, despite it being Ohio. Good luck to the corps involved, it pains me that i wont be there to see my friend who marches bloo. But i'll be at massillon.
  12. I get that, i really do. Although not all cheese is bad cheese. I just think the cadets do take bigger risks in regards to lathering their show with a big dollop of canned spray cheese, and sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't. But they aren't the only ones that cheese it up.
  13. Because the cadets show thread is totally not twice the size of the next highest show thread /sarcasm The cadets thread is knocking on 400 pages! The next closest is crown nearing 200. I know that some fans like to feel like martyrs, but overall cadets fans control the conversations and are the most active bunch on dcp.
  14. No, i started coming here in 2011 or so. But i also said "is" not "was" as in, present tense, not past.
  15. I couldn't disagree more. Dcp is a cadets forum that allows chatter about other corps and shows.
  16. Allentown is a cheese factory and hop is the CEO. Nothing has changed really, the cadets love to sprinkle the cheese on the show. Sometimes the show is made of cheese and somehow they find a way to make it cheesier. I'll give them credit, they find a way to consistently produce new levels of cheese almost every year. I think the green bay packers should send their cheeseheads to Hop and their new shakos should be those cheese wedges.
  17. The G7 corps, and several of the larger non g7 corps (madison, bac, troopers) are, or should, be able to compensate their staff now a days. Not the volunteers of course. Not saying that they are living high on the hog, but they also arent poor. Smaller corps might be a different story. Typically they are based on a few big donors to get them through, with smaller donations helping. The key is having a balance so you aren't too dependent on a handfull of people. But there was a (what is now) a g7 corps that not too lobg ago was on the brink of collapse, but was bailed out. I obviously will not name said corps and you can believe me or not. But now they are stable.
  18. Oh man thats brutal. And now in the age of twitter, recruits are verbally abused by fans when they turn down their school to go to a different one. Its easier to ignore than a phone call though. But yeah, people are brutal about that stuff.
