2014 World Championships Semi Finals
burgerbob replied to TubaJon's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
They do that. You know how much work they put in in the offseason? Many of the members take ballet classes or lessons before even auditioning. This year's show looks easy because they have prepared so much but it is not easy whatsoever. Just picking a corps at random, if the same corps had Bluecoats drill it would have been pretty much perfect a month ago. -

She's the BD guard member injured very early season or in the preseason. -

Then please leave! I don't especially like it but I can still appreciate a show. I love Cadets 2007. -

Im sorry DCI, you need to fix the scoring again

In finals, BD did in 2010. -
I really don't see how Cadets "stick out" in a bad way with the standard uni. I love it. As mentioned above, i think any attempt at "modernization" would just ruin it.

What is your favorite show of the season?
burgerbob replied to saxmania2477's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
It's hard to say this with the best Bluecoats show I have seen yet out, but Blue Devils have one of the best shows I have ever seen on the field this year. With no weak spots like 2010 (percussion) or 2009 (hornline still on Dynasties). -

They have big-### stripes on both legs. Cadets don't anymore... -
Every time they get 2nd in recent history, they come back and win the **** out of DCI. I think that counts!

Watch '99 and '00! Way better than '07 IMO. As for BD in general, wow. In '09 and '10 we jokingly called them Galaxy Class because they were so obviously far ahead in every aspect, and this is true again this year.

If you had to pick a side . . . to sit on.
burgerbob replied to N.E. Brigand's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Go to a show and you would change your mind. The cast is great but doesn't even come close to comparing to live, and you should know that. As to which side to sit on- I don't think it matters much as long as you are as close to the 50 as possible. -
Agreed, having seen it live just a few days ago... Great hornline, great drums and percussion. Just doesn't hold my attention like 2004 did or even 2012.

Drums Along the Rockies 2014

Hey I actually went to this show! Great show. Perfect weather, great field, some of the best acoustics in DCI. I watched Troop in the lot so I only saw Troop on. Troopers: Wow guys. I marched some good years but they are so far beyond what we did it is astounding. If this isn't the best Troopers hornline of all time (yet!) then I would be surprised. I like the show too- I know there have been complaints of "I don't get it" and the like, but I honestly think it is one of the better put-together programs out there right now. It needs more GE but that'll happen with additions. When I watched rehearsal they had just added a couple moments. Visually they need some work. Madison: I don't know how they manage it, but the all-jazz show is pretty boring. Good moments, loud hornline, not interesting. SCV: Again, it's hard for me to watch (especially in Denver!) a rehash of one of my favorite shows of all time. And honestly, it doesn't work. The show is well put together, but very flat IMO. There are no real down moments. It's all very loud with a couple very quiet moments that don't have the gravity they should. Hornline sounds good, trumpets are a little thin sounding compared to everyone else (including Troopers) and not enough high mellophone for the brass staff they have For some reason they were the biggest user of huge bass in the amps, even though they have a great loud tuba line. Shame on you, SCV. Drums are amazing but that doesn't save a show. Blue Knights: Disclaimer, I kind of hate BK. I actually fell asleep at Finals watching their show in 2008. They were great!! Good uniform change, new visual caption head (the guy from Phantom 2010-2013?) that made some GREAT changes, awesome hornline, good drumline. Show is put together very well and I like it. Narration is loud, but not overbearing and without it the show wouldn't make any sense. Good job, BK- I haven't liked a show of yours since 2011, and probably never before that! -
I don't think it's closed-mindedness, it's that the show doesn't really work right now, wheras you can't ever say the same for BD. You may not like it but it is very close to a cohesive whole at any given time. Crown is not there yet.

As a corps, parades are probably great! As a member, I don't think I have worse memories of anything. In 2011 I was hopelessly sick for July 4 and it was the best July 4 I had when I marched.
-
I know of a guard member and a tubist, both from Cheyenne. I think there are more though. The guard member marched all of my years too!

I think Crown would like to have some words with you! Personally I don't see SCV beating this. They are good this year but wow.
