  1. I thought this thread was going to be about a Cadets step-off...
  2. In the concert setting I really hate to get a standing ovation unless I KNOW it was an amazing performance, which of course they aren't always. Drum corps is a different deal altogether.
  3. Stephanie Lee, SCV '08 '09 (aged out in '09, don't know about previous to '08).
  4. Some here may know someone that marched Cadets '00 to '07. There were several members in '08 Troopers that were 13 or 14. Not sure how many are still marching.
  5. I like it... Not sure I'll like the uniforms with the design but whatever. Ballad reminds me of Cadets '08!!
  6. I'm not a huge fan. We'll see how it looks on the field, of course, but I really am partial to '07-'09...
  7. BD does plan ahead, but the show is NOT usually finished. They work on it continuously until probably Allentown. Last year the show was barely done before Family Day and it changed a ton. They have such a great design staff that they have the ability to take their time and tailor it to the corps they have that year.
  8. Ahh. In that case, there have been several ballads with the pedal point underneath. In Troop '08 I played an F for a good minute or so of the ballad. I think Cadets has a similar ballad from the late '90s?
  9. I think Atlanta (Troopers 2011) was 31 seconds? I remember it being the longest for some reason. Also, I can't figure out what msumello meant by Crown 2010...
  10. Bad analogy. Completely different things. Dada is an artistic movement, not a music genre. And by definition it encompasses a lot of things. Making a show that was actually Dada would have failed unimaginably, which BD doesn't like to do.
  11. Not sure about them... From a distance, they'll look just like the uniforms used from '05-back. *shrug*
  12. Basically any time there are a couple rehearsal days in a row, they attempt to wash the uniforms. As said earlier, it's every couple weeks, much like the member laundry days.
  13. This is true, and is something modern performers need to know how to do. However, I don't think it has a place in the DCI context.
  14. I guess I never got the point. Just kind of a **** measuring contest between corps, who can win the most individual awards? I wasn't going to miss it at all.
  15. I'm not saying that doesn't happen now. It definitely does. I'm still closer to many of the people I marched with than people I'm with at school for 9 months of the year. But to deny people their valve to the outside strikes me as dumb. It's great to foster those relationships, but they don't have to be happening 24/7 for 3 months. Calling home or getting on facebook is just fine.
  16. I know it's a trope to make fun of food tweets, but that's not what he's talking about. Just having that connection with the outside world is a big deal. Personally, I know a couple people that would update or check facebook all day during rehearsal and it annoyed the **** out of me. However, in your own time, it's anyone's game. I feel like it's totally unnecessary to take away member's ability to contact people outside the organization. I know Cavaliers does it, but I can't imagine what good it does. The phone isn't needed during rehearsals- I'll agree to that.
  17. Drum corps is where I really learned how to be tolerant. I would say DCI is far ahead of the curve- when I marched it was not a big deal at all.
