There are some really cool visual ideas here in the ballad, definitely digging it.

I've been getting really good sound most of the time, but I'm hooked up to a sound system.

This goes to show for any corps, what a good recording can show. In some other threads maybe some of the concerning things being heard were really just bad recordings. But I would say a phenomenal job so far to the media team for the Cavaliers getting a good quality broadcast out so far.

This section has really improved since that leaked video, really dig it now.

I like the Cavaliers uniform, gonna need to be sold on the head gear for the guard, but it's 'digg-able'. Was hoping for just red pants for crown, gonna have to get used to the weird horizontal stripes. Probably looks better from the box. Their guard is unique, and I think it should be effective. BD, didn't wow me like flammaster was building up, but just another decent BD uniform. Though can they please go back to the eagle?

Figured it out, it was the Boston performance in the park.

It was a standstill performance with the singer. The soloist on a French horn flubbed the solo quite a bit.

Their concert performance didn't have the bad French Horn soloist did it? I didn't think that was regiment.

Definitely look bad imo, but at least not as bad as their drum wraps.

I'm not talking about score, because each caption is relative to other corps. Just visually the colts are quite lacking, even on finals night.

Visually strong corps? Since when? That's usually their major weakness in my opinion. The music ensemble usually out-performs the visual ensemble.

After watching the concert in the park video they sound much better than last year, obvious. But in long sustains there are obvious dropouts and bad stagger breathing techniques evident. And a few times a first Bari blew past a good sound at the end of a sustain to destroy the release. Once they can clean their sustain technique they will be able to challenge for top 5 or 6, but not until then. But maybe Regiment's focus has get the while show on the field and this point they can worry about that?

Correct, the red part of last year got replaced with the blue pattern. I heard speculation that the design was in their show announcement.

I've seen some of them already, and this is the newest section on the field. Seen some other sections, presumably earlier in the show that sound a lot better and are more cohesive.

Well we can all hope that there is more artificial sound put out by the Bluecoats this year, greatest effect ever!

Does this just open doors for day one comparison? Who is better and more prepared at the preview show will be touted as far better than the other corps? Who goes on first? Will another corps be warming up outside the stadium as the other performs? Someone's gotta ask the dumb and prying questions right?

I was more referencing that huge thread on speaker placement that just turned into an argument if anyone could hear anything if they weren't sitting in the judges lap. Though on speaker placement, I like the Cavaliers/old Crown setup. Though I'll be the first to admit I certainly don't like the way Crown used their speakers in '13, but when it is used correctly (in my opinion only) that placement really adds to the corps ability to be effective, generally.

With DCP clamoring for speakers outside the 20s so everyone can hear, they decided to move into the 40s so its more exclusive for the premium seats and judges.

Comes off to me as tacky, but the audience will never see it so its only for the performers.

It has gotten a lot more tame this year after their lackluster placement last year. Usually predicting Boston lower gets craiga, Liahona, and ghost's knickers in a knot.

I think something to keep in mind is that a corps has never given us more access and exposure to early season May sounding and looking drum corps before (at least I haven't seen it before). So maybe you are just becoming too used to it too early compared to a different year?

If we have learned anything on DCP, it's to not hurt the feelings of a BAC fan. Or to tell the fan the corps is not getting 4th place that year. Always starts a big hoopla.
