  1. Amping a brass line should be an insult to brass players. Amp the pit or a soloist if anything...an entire brass line? Then march 30 brass and 60 color guard.
  2. Saw the show 2xs on YouTube. No desire to see it a 3rd. Hope the members are having a good tour.
  3. Madison lost themselves and have no idea who they are right now. 2017 will be remembered a long time.
  4. No. Their score dropped a few tenths last night.
  5. Great show! Bet that was a fun one.
  6. It's a different set of muscles used between match and traditional grip...but they aren't ramming notes either...it's quite easy to switch grips, especially for the short amount of time they are playing that segment.
  7. As someone who has marched tenors and snare, changing the grip is not a big deal, especially at this level.
  8. Everyone realizes, I assume, by overtaking them means a couple of points in spread? They won't get there I'm afraid. 0.2 last night against a corps with an incomplete show is a start, but that's a long road to grow in point spread. Now, can they stay in the "any given night" range...probably, but overtake, which is pull away...doubtful. To pull away/overtake means Cadets plateau while BC keeps climbing. That won't happen.
  9. Can probably find it on their 990.
  10. I believe you are right re top 17 and not 15.
  11. As I have been told, top 15 performances fees are the same...maybe a bump for top 3. The money drops from 16 down.
  12. I like to follow corps 990's on GuideStar. Per the 2014 info, one can view what his reported income was along with additional income. Being corps are non-profts, all information is public/transparent. Some corps scrape by...others are killing it (BD).
  13. Good crowd...they just don't frequent this place.
  14. Lots of members from other corps marching but not a lot of those fans in the stands, except for the home town people, and most aren't on here.
  15. Posted this before...corps in this range have many obstacles to competitive performance. Performance fees are lower, becuase of funds some dont eat as well or have a medical staff, rehearsal time is less, longer drive to the shows based on housing sites, etc. Judges do not give the benefit of doubt...basically, corps in this tier have a longer row to sow. This is drum corps boot camp.
  16. What are the soloists doing with their feet...looks like they keying sound via a pedal.
  17. Volunteers are the unsung heroes of DCI...corps don't get down the road without them.
  18. Don't forget rain delays. That didn't help.
  19. Corps are neither as good or as bad as a small group of people say they are. DCI exists because corps exist...it is a non profit business. Corps who do well financially, benefit the most, check the 990's. Money cures a lot. My viewing of corps is based on what I enjoy, if that corps is 9th or 2nd or 19th is indifferent. DCI is a microcosm of economic status. It's also a cool reason to celebrate when Academy or Manadarins do well...their performance fees are less and they are doing more with fewer resources, less Money, yet incur the same amount of expenses. And don't live as well as, say a top Corps, who eats well every single day...not to mention less rehearsal time and further distance to travel to show sights. So hype away Manadarins...well earned.
  20. On his FB live post last night he sort of mentioned it. 1) he asked judges how big a deal it is that the show isn't finished, compared to others who are mostly finished, and was told it is a big deal. 2) regarding percussion, he said they are executing well, but, judges cannot hear the front ensemble clearly, and they have to figure out balance with the singers drowning them out. 3) he kinda sorta implied that since they aren't playing follow the leader they are getting dinged. Also mentioned, may not be coming to FL next year.
  21. May not be seeing them in FL next year :-)
