  1. For me, visually I want to see what I am hearing. If the music is aggressive I should see that visually, if emotional I should emotional expression. Basically, a visual representation of what I hear and whay they are trying to communicate.
  2. You should be proud...since I marched there has not been one single thing in my life that has been harder than marching drum corps. It's a PHD in how to handle life.
  3. You should keep track of placements as you see it, then compare to official results when you check back.
  4. Wow! Imagine that happening today. Crown gets booted from finals...
  5. Wasn't that 1989? Had heard about this too...
  6. Here is a link. http://www.dci.org/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=33500&ATCLID=211086489 As I understand, corps are put in a box, each box has a score range...so box 5 = all the members performing well all of the time. This is where those competing for a medal sit. There is a box 4 and box 3, etc. Examples would be, some of the members most of the time, some of the members some of the time - all based on how well and consistent they perform. Then each section judged has a content and achievement range...so the number on the left is let's say, how difficult it is, the box on the right is how well they perform it based on the difficulty score it has been given. Basically, corps are awarded for what they achieve vs the tick system which is you are deducted from what you mess up. I know there is more to it than this, but that is the jist of it.
  7. Had a random memory today. I remember when I marched we were on tour with a corps, and I cannot remember who it was...anyway, the rumor going around was they kicked out a member, I believe a snare player. Took him to the bus stop and sent him home. Never really knew if that actually happened, but definitely remember people talking about it. Has anyone heard of any stories like this?
  8. If I were on staff, I'd appreciate a 5 panel in June...why...we just got the show on the field, maybe a week ago...I don't need a full panel coming at me from every direction, rather would appreciate some isolated feedback...this allows me to better and more effectively set up rehearsals, next show different panels...same thing. Tweak isolated areas until full panels...then start tweaking on a bigger picture. I'm good with that.
  9. Don't forget about a certain corps who debuted last night right behind Troopers and Colts, each of which were on shows #3 and 4...and clipped 1 of them in visual and both of them in musical analysis finishing 4th. Not bad for a debut...They Will be spending the next 2 days cleaning and have show #2 Friday.
  10. These guys have me intrigued. About an hour until gate time...
  11. Or you could rephrase - you don't want them to risk getting "slotted".
  12. I'd agree. I think something everyone can agree on is that by finals every corps wants to be clean - and they should be clean. So, what "I" would do is set a demarcation point, some date in the summer, perhaps the first regional (I don't know, just saying that as an example), that if certain areas are not clean by that time, at least clean enough to where progress is being made measurably, then we start to water it down/pair down/simplify as needed - again with the goal being to put a challenging show on the field, but one the performers can achieve. I think people hit the panic button too soon...some things need time to click...however, there also comes a time when it is time to make changes - and I am sure the corps leadership is also aware of this - the question is, for each corps, when is that point reached? Is it a certain time frame, or is it when you see corps moving away from you on the judging sheets...
  13. Cannot make a prediction until all corps have performed at least a couple of times and at least until they have had full panels involved. Until then then, it's like trying to predict college football rankings in week 1.
  14. I do know this...there is a very positive vibe across the entire organization, alumni support is an all time high, and things are run and handled in an extremely first class manner...and they ain't done yet.
  15. I dig this show. Cool music. Accessible. Entertaining. Some cool moments in there. Drumline is tight and horns sound good.
  16. I've watched the show 3xs now. I love it!! Light years from the last couple of years. Well done SoA!! Totally dig the music.
  17. They just released about 3m of their show...these guys are putting out some volume!
  18. I dig it. Holds on to tradition, yet modern at the same time. Much better than some other corps reveal I've seen so far. Nicely done.
  19. What I can say about this is ever since the first camp, through yesterday, the focus has been on providing the members with a positive experience...and some feedback and a few posts on FB confirm that the MM's had a very enjoyable season. The financial train wreck has been sorted, and they will begin to move forward with solid footing...the job that the new BoD has done is incredible in saving the corps...consider them SoA v2.0. The future looks bright, will be interesting to see where they go from here.
  20. Well said, Dan. Thanks for posting.
  21. To me, this sounds like a corps who isn't placing where they think they should be and the members are disgruntled perhaps with the show they've been given...likely to be Boston or Madison??
  22. Thanks dude! My opinion and we shall see.
