  1. Worst meal I ever had was "gravy bread". Corps was served turkey and gravy, but by the time the front ensemble got done loading and showering, there was barely any meat left. So the food ladies gave us sliced white bread and poured the remaining gravy with meat shrapnel over it. I should point out that this was in DCA, and what made it particularly memorable was that it was served to us right before finals. No better hype for your last performance!
  2. I agree. Also my source is Mike Jackson, so I’m inclined to believe him. 😉 He has his reasons for resigning (and yes it was a resignation not a firing), but would like them to remain relatively private. He will most definitely be back in DCI when the time and place are right.
  3. He is focusing primarily on Broken City (his WGI PIW group) for now. I assume this is true for Kevin Shah as well.
  4. Unfortunately I'm not local, nor do I know anyone who is. However, if you need a show designed in a hurry feel free to contact me. I am used to getting music out fast, so the kids can have something to work with while you search for an instructor. Good luck!
  5. Shane uses Dynasty... and IP, and Zildjian. Shouldn't be any endorsement issues. I assume Regiment will be switching to Evans once their agreement with Remo is up, but I could be wrong.

  7. Awesome stuff! Thanks for posting the notes. I feel like a smarter arranger after reading and hearing that! Next time, do your Vince McMahon voice for the intro
  8. Wow. This is a complete shock to me! That's really unfortunate. I hope they recover, and it really is just a one year hiatus.
  9. Call me nuts, but I hear some Firebird at 8:01. Rondo of Princesses?
  10. That marching snare looks a lot better than I had imagined. It's exciting to think that there might be another valid equipment choice emerging. Hopefully the horns won't suck, and Ross will do their homework on the mallet equipment.
  11. Standard size for outdoor is 14x12. Companies like Pearl and Dynasty make an "indoor" snare which is 13x9, but lately more and more indoor groups have been using 13x11 as their snare size.
  12. That show is really good... but the intonation of the guitar on the finals video ruins it for me. In the performer's defense, I saw that show several times throughout the year and his playing was flawless. Blame it on San Diego. The closer from that show (Mike Stern's "Way Out East") would make a sweet drum corps chart. It's very much like Heat of the Day.
  13. The '91 corps is a thing of legend.... Yet I picked Crossmen '98. I just happen to prefer the arrangements and visual package of that year. Plus a few buddies of mine were in that line. It's really interesting to compare the arrangements of 'Third Wind' from both Crossmen shows to see two fairly different approaches to the tune.
  14. :spit: You win the "most obscure movie quote of the day" award. Genesis allowed is not. Oh yeah, and hopping on the Imogen Heap bandwagon. Amazing stuff.
  15. How about 2006 BK? Pretty sure it was all from the Barber Piano Concerto. Also, Cadets '98? (I know it's not a "song.")
  16. I'll be there with my girlfriend (we'll be the couple wearing Crown gear). Hope the rain lets up by Friday!
  17. Old school: SCV '87 Modern: Bluecoats '05
  18. Roots of Coincidence! YES. June cannot come fast enough.
  19. Overall, Phantom Regiment was my favorite. They were just a joy to watch and listen to, and they performed a very challenging book in some difficult listening situations. I also loved Bluecoats, mostly for the innovative writing, but they were very clean as well.
  20. I seriously just made a mess of my desk. Holy holy holy crap! I have been waiting so long for a corps to do Mahler 2 justice. Also, I have to agree that a uniform mod would be nice for this season. Silver baldric & gauntlets anyone?
  21. I'm all for more Metheny, but I'm not sure they should re-do any of the charts they've already done. There's plenty of material from Speaking of Now and The Way Up which would arrange pretty well. I don't think we need another version of Third Wind. I also wouldn't mind seeing a Don Ellis show. No Strawberry Soup though. And please, no Birdland. There are plenty of ways Crossmen can be "The Crossmen" without rehashing old charts. Just my $.02.
