Wow, no one wants to discuss VANGUARD?
LabMaster replied to Eric M. Buckman's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I’m down for putting a pin in this until after Saturday nights finals. Currently more important than SCV rehash of rehash. -
DCI and Indy sign extension thru 2033

Unless they are at Hampton Inns, probably not. Corps are still feeding kids and staff, not sure about lunch and dinner because corps have to move to local fields/stadiums. Or a corps can rent the Colts practice bubble. -
The “other road”? How many years had Boston been on that road? A LOT longer than you apparently. I hope you don’t think Boston’s history is an easy one. Boston was able to find a team that was maybe tired of where they were, and what they weren’t able to do, and have found a home where they are appreciated tremendously and get to create to their hearts content.

Stay well Cadets. Best of luck tonight.

Would that mean the trucks are not on a level surface? If so, it would be tough on the trucks to make/serve food. -

When do the San Antonio Tics go on Sale?

I suggest checking the DCI website frequently. -
Is it his job? Or does he volunteer his time. Not that it matters all that much anyway. Given this IS a youth activity, can we not cut someone some slack especially for something not all that critically important in life? I thought one thing we were all getting from our experience with Covid is to be a little kinder, a little more compassionate.

Nope. Didn’t forget. Judges do have the ability to properly rank and rate assigned same captions over 2 consecutive nights. If there were different panels, then yes I would agree wholeheartedly. But to be wrapped up in the impossibility of the numbers being reasonably comparative, is not a total buy in for me. Now, moving on. We’ve beaten this dead horse sufficiently.
-
There are also fewer negative elements in shows as they change, layer and clean. More complexities begin to emerge, More differences become clearer as do similarities. Captions tighten, true strengths appear, allowing judges to discern differences and evaluate comparatively. A half a tenth at this point may have been a few or more tenths a month ago. Box 4 is now box 5 in all captions.

Hopefully Boston will continue to clean as they really hadn’t focused on cleaning until this past week, which is a tad late to really get after it. The guard is now beginning to hit their stride too after a slow start and upping the difficulty this year. They have been developing more of a character role as well with this show. Atown was a good one for them so they are off and running now. Actually brass and perc are also getting in to total performance mode. Very exciting. But all that being said, everyone has their one last tour show, then major focusing for and in Indy begins. Indy is going to be epic this year. More than ever it seems.

Totally agree. The initial thinking by many that this was BD’s year, no one would catch them, is proving to be a false acquiescence to BD’s creativity and performance ability. What was not being considered or given credit for, was the ability of Boston, Crown and Bloo’s staffs to improve their shows with smart layering and development and generally cleaning the bejesus out of each caption. BD is not running away with it. I mentioned before that it’s not that BD is that good, it is also that these other corps are pretty darn good themselves. Additionally the past few years there has always been talk of how good the top 6 are. I believe this year this has expanded to the top 8. We are being treated to some great and amazingly diverse shows.

The shanty section is the lighthearted representation, aligned with Melvilles story line. He has numerous passages to convey the human side of whaling crews camaraderie while on the quest for the white whale.

I fully get the difficulty in managing stairs these days. I had a minor accident nearly a year ago with the result being a minor concussion, but a heck of a case of vertigo. That lingers today. I have balance issues occasionally, but more so, a lack of confidence to the point where I use hand rails or keep contact with walls. Stadium stairs present a huge challenge as does getting to my seat once at my row. I’m am in no way as quick to recover, if I stumble. Properties I deal with in my working life very often require upgrading all ADA elements but there are ways around it through grandfathering. But these are private properties not public ones like Atown. The stadium should be upgraded throughout, to comply with federal law. And it is a law. Handrails up/down stairways should be provided, at the very least. I recently was at a show where there were handrails for some stairs but not all. My anxiety level increased where there were no rails. It’s not difficult nor overly costly. Much less than a lawsuit.

As explained to you by another poster: Atown is same judges in the same positions, 2 days in a row. The judges are quite capable of viewing, ranking and rating effectively over the two shows. No one has had a rehearsal advantage in those last couple of days. But keep resisting. ALL other shows have different judging panels judging on different night in different sites, other than Indy.
-
And what is the whole point of this? It all balances out. Is someone thinking there was some kind of advantage being had by Sat corps? What would it matter? Do people think Sat corps scoring was skewed in their favor of because they supposedly had an extra rehearsal? If so, then make a specific correlation or forget about it.
-
I’m not comparing 2 nights. I’m saying (challenging the extra rehearsal remarks) no one got any extra rehearsal yesterday for tonight because of yesterdays show. When this corps in yesterdays show had rehearsal the day before when some corps had a show Thursday. I’m saying it all evens out over the last week. There was no advantage or disadvantage relative to rehearsal times.
