  1. I've looked at the DCI West I capture (raw stream not screen grab) and the best I can tell is that the audio got out of sync four times with the video feed (high cam) which makes it way more noticeable for the later corps. The overall video quality looks is pretty sweet and looks good when viewed from the proper distance (i.e., not sitting 12 inches from a 32 inch monitor). I'd like to get less static in the audio feed, there's some noticeable buzzing in the later corps that I'm assuming is a mic picking up the lights (?). Audio is vast improved from the preview show. I've watched and used Neulion for other things and rarely have problems, this leads me to believe it's the front end team trying to figure out the new system and get things aligned. The improvement between preview show and DCI west has me hopeful that they'll get this nailed down in the next week or so. The lack of iDevice support is in-excusable. There's no reason why that should have broken between the preview show and the Stanford show. On a note about the commercials, those are not in the raw feed. It's an overlay in the actual player source code that sources those from their ad partners. That's why they come in so clear and each time you try to refresh you get them.
  2. Agreed, when I watched and listened to the show I immediately thought of 99. Glad they've come back into that space. I've enjoyed shows of the past years but that 90's era was special with the shows the put out and the cohesiveness of the design. I really enjoyed the brass writing (no surprise) and how they set things up. Loking forward to seeing how this progresses
  3. Runner: -2011 MacBook Air - iPad -Ubuntu server htpc Setup: - iPad fail - chrome as IPad user agent fail - MacBook live streaming survived a pre show and then I fell asleep - Ubunutu server capture of the raw feed that was being displayed by the .flv? Completely clean and awesome minus 3 encoding issues somewhere in the four hour feed. Looks like I'll have to continue to capture the background video files and reassemble after the fact to which works fine for my own DVR purposes. With young kiddos, sitting down and watching live ain't going to happen. Didn't try the multicam after the issues in the preview show
  4. No luck for me on any idevice but pulling stream fine via computer. When I tried to watch with my browser set to an iPad user agent I got an unsupported error which was not cool.
  5. Paid my 99, we'll see how this goes. Hopefully they've got the audio issues fixed. Listened to my preview capture again yesterday and there were all sorts of channel and mixing oddities
  6. I've got a python script that yanks all the scores, haven't tested it on the new site yet but will be happy to send over the data if it works
  7. Glad to see there's a chance that they could re-emerge, always enjoyed their programming choices. For those with the lack of insight, I take it the problems started started around the time the economy tanked with financial management and just sort of compounded over the final years, especially the last two with missing finals?
  8. Agreed, the shutters seem are in the raw feed I pulled (not streaming) on the highest quality. I'd imagine it's a combination of the lack of the A-Team, facility and getting used to running the rigs. Hopefully they add more mics and tweak locations based on how the various corps place their speakers.
  9. I'd really like to see one of the top horn-lines take on Heitor Villa-Lobo's Symphonies #3 and #4. Great pieces, just relatively unknown here in the states.
  10. Mathematically, they'd need either a single snare or 1,024 snares minimum if there was an exponent in the show this year Either way, I agree your assessment, it's a big stretch and surface shows can be pretty awesome as well. Looking forward to this one and I think the Cadets have done a good job based on the previews of making sure you get the point.
  11. Had some time to digest and review the shows again: - Troopers - liked the back half. Could have done with out the singing as I found it a bit distracting and would have preferred that they let the hornlike do the singing. Horns were a lot better than I expected from them. There were a few things I missed the first time around that helped get horse part across (guard getting wrangled into the drill curves). I'll be curious to see how this one evolves to hopefully highlight what they've got working for them this year. Usually for me the battle on those just outside final corps is determined by the staffs ability to minimize weaknesses and highlight strengths as the season goes on. - Scouts - Wanted to like it, too much dancing (which I get is sort of the theme of their show with Gene Kelly).. I thought the hornline and book was appropriately matched. Arrangements were good, just felt like I was in the early 80's listening to it audio only. Drill had a few moments. ABSOLUTELY hate the guard uniforms towards the closer, for a second there I thought the judges where out there twirling rifles due to the khaki pants and dark tops. Does anybody know if they're still trying to fill holes? There looked like at least one during the company front that was way to wide to be a spacing problem.
  12. Anybody else notice the high cam kept moving and panning? Wonder if that was due to the size of the press box or is going to be a common theme throughout the year. I'd prefer that they'd be fixed, minor gripe but the frame expanding to catch the props wandering into the top right end zone was a wee bit distracting. Looking the video, high cam seemed to have less of a problem with artifacts that the multi-cam. Who's doing the actual live production?
  13. Yup, I'll buy. I'm able to do what I need to do with the feed and will get enough bang for my bucks through the summer to make it worth while. I can live with some of the issues that we experienced tonight but I'd expect to have the sound feed fixed within the first few shows or I might fire off an irate email.
  14. Should have hired the Pied Piper guys to help with the compression :) My stream was stuck on the dci loop, hit a refresh and Madison was halfway in. That's not cool..
  15. Macbook's pulling it well it seems now. Edited my original post to direct it at those struggling to record.
  16. Audio seems to have straightened itself out for me. I think it may have been just the high mics that were being used in the feed. Multi camera quality has been hit or miss but I've got it massively blown up on my TV.
  17. My right channels is noticeably muffled. Sounds like it's underwater. Left sounds perfectly fine. For those that are attempting to record and struggline, what OS you're using (and comfort with command line) would be helpful to know.
  18. Make sure you've got a large HD if you're attempting self DVR..Whoopsie! That said, Neulion knows what they're doing with the quality of the stream. They handle the NHL and some NBA content so I don't think any drum corp audience is going to drop do a number of their systems. Looks like it maxes out at 720p and if you're having streaming problems, you can adjust down or up.
  19. Ha, guess it was me posting about the logo..:) Things coming in clear here.
  20. Anybody actually have video going on..All I've got is the silly DCI logo spinning..
  21. This makes me happy, definitely a brass person as well. Glad the comments from the folks who watched are relaying a solid hornline and book.
  22. Agree with everyone so far. The closer fell flat too chaotic and missing the oomph you get in the actual symphony when they hit that chorus. Drill was a bit chaotic and distracting from that angle as all you saw was bodies basically sprinting in the brass line. However: 1) loved the front half 2) the ballad was crazy spooky 3) guard work = nice 4) I really like how they've staged it with the brass and the guard Final thought: uniforms are cool but at that angle, I couldn't focus on the actual drill that well due to the whipping of the really white rifles and sabres by the guard. Hopefully a higher cam under the stadium lights will work better but for the front half, it felt kinda of psychedelic with the twirly white things :)
  23. Agreed, I'm holding out hope that they don't take the concept into corny land and that there brass line is up to par. The opener and closer are no slouches and if the books watered down (or arranged oddly) I may not like it as much as I want to.
  24. Make sure you have flash enabled and are on the newest version of firefox and flash. That system should be more than capable of playing a flash video stream.
  25. The main positive I'm seeing form this is so far is that if I make the video full screen, the quality actually still stays very good. That was a pleasant surprise. On the old network, when I'd increase the video size, I got just got what seemed like the original video size stretched and the quality quickly degraded. I'm on the fence about subscribing. The lack of replay is a killer combined with the lack of APD during the season. I tend to just queue these up all day while I'm working from home over the stereo and listen. As for the DVR capabilities, google can answer those pretty quickly (especially if your on a mac or linux). I'd imagine that the mods might shut down that even in the 'off-topic' land pretty quickly.
