  1. Subtle in the sense that they didn't ask over a speaker system to get the crowd involved. Subtle in the sense that the objective was to tell a story and tell it well. Of course, they wanted to entertain the crowd, but that show was a complete vision. It's sole objective wasn't to get the crowd into it. The crowd got into it because it was magnificently told and magnificently performed. Crown doesn't need to ask the crowd to clap or become involved. It's got great music, great visuals and a great guard. None of the voiceovers make any sense and they just aren't necessary.
  2. Well said. All these groups life and borrow from each other and Broadway and BOA, etc.... People just hate BD because they win all the time. I know, I used to be one of them. I still hate that they win all the time, or at all, haha, but I've left my bias around and see things for what they are - BD wins all the time because they are the best, and until you beat them head to head you ain't the best. I am sticking with it being a BD-Bloo showdown. They have the two best designed shows, by far this year. No one else comes close.
  3. I get that, but the point is the way Crown's attempt is coming across is sort of like desperation. It's the wrong way to do it. They have that brass line and a fantastic color guard and an amazing drill. That's all they need to get the fans pumped up. I wish they would lose the voice overs all together. IMO they are just ineffective.
  4. I like Crown's show better than Bluecoats too (from an entertainment perspective) but from a design perspective the Bluecoats show blows Crown's show away.
  5. Exactly. God, Spartacus pulled that crowd in with the subtlest attempt to do so. They didn't have to try and talk the crowd into participating. Hopefully, Crown will quickly realize that won't work and yank it.
  6. I'm not optimistic. I was talking with another friend this morning and he said don't you miss drill and sustained music. He said, "remember how exciting it was?" Of course I did. Regiment and Crown give me a dose of that this year, but Regiment's show is designed in line with what gets rewarded most and Crown's isn't IMO. Just like 2019 - best music but visual design is going to hammer them (if the judging is done in the same vein as 2017-2019).
  7. Yeah, I think them getting the crowd to engage the way they want is just confusion and will not be successful.
  8. Crown was stupendous. Their guard was so clean for the first show and that brass line. I love their drill. Fast and furious. I miss shows like this. Sadly, they just aren't rewarded as much anymore.
  9. I think Crown's show is 4th, 3rd at best. I think Bluecoats and Devils are going to run away with this and it is going to be a two-man race.
  10. What an improvement since 2019 out of Rockford. They should all be very proud.
  11. Wonder if Vanguard will have their closer in this weekend.
  12. It's been great for me this season and they are showing so many shows. Watched your 2000 show last week - still one of my favorites. One of the greats!
  13. Yeah, I thought of that, but it's such a small amount of people wearing black vs a much larger amount of people wearing white. Whatever it is and means I like it. I love the guard uniforms too. I'll be watching this show throughout the year. IMO the design is defo better than 2019.
  14. I'm not crazy about voiceovers but she is really great. I'm not sure how well the attempts to get the audience to participate are going to go. My favorite thing about this show is the guard though. As much as I love their brass, their guard is so good. I love the unis and the work.
  15. I have a question, and sorry if this has been asked and explained a 100 times, but why is the drum line in black and hornline in white. I quite like it, but I don't know the reasoning.
  16. I agree with this. 100%. This is the best Regiment show since 2013, maybe 2012. They have to keep the members healthy so they don't have to miss rehearsal, amongst other things.
  17. This is the show I've been most looking forward to. Regiment and Scouts seemed to build off of 2021. It'll be interesting to see how the Cadets do.
  18. I was. Vanguard is my #1, but Crown is my #2. I liked Crown's show a lot more than Vanguard's in 2019. I learned a long time ago that "like" doesn't matter, but I thought Crown had the better show in 2019.
  19. Let's agree to disagree 🙂, because I think we'll keep going in circles. I get what your'e saying, but I also think I have a point.
  20. Thanks. I try and be honest, even with my hatred. Haha. No I don't hate them any more, but I do hate them winning all the time, LOL. I mean, it is so astounding when you think about what they have accomplished all the way back to 1976, but especially from 2007 to today. It also shocks me when people count them out. I knew in 2018 that when Vanguard started beating them for good that Vanguard was going to win finals, even though they hadn't seen Bluecoats yet. You beat the Blue Devils and that title is guaranteed (at least since 2007) because no one else is going to beat them, and therefore no one is going to beat you.
  21. I didn't mean that figuratively. Of course, they aren't sitting around talking about how they can beat the Devils. Rather, they know the title goes through Concord.
  22. Yes, I stood corrected. It's just when I think of BD I think of them being 1st or 2nd (they've been there from 2007 through today). So, when I think of them in 3rd I think "wow they had a really bad season." LOL.
  23. I have heard you out and agree wholeheartedly. It's just when I think of Devils being 3rd I think of them being down and out - haha, but you are right. If fact, Regiment only beat them once in 2006 (I believe) - which was finals, and Devils were right there with Cavies through semifinals. I don't think Cavies would take any disrespect out of what you said. In fact, I would bet no one in Cavaliers were counting the Devils out until they heard them announced in 3rd place.
