Just realized that my last edit to today's scores was technically after the beginning of the event since I was dumb and forgot about time zones - hopefully not an issue since it was still before the first world class corps performed, but if you'd rather I revert to the predictions I had before that edit I can change it back.

That's fair, it could definitely be a judging anomaly (or San Antonio could've been). Looking forward to seeing how things play out tonight!

I was talking specifically about THIS year's spreads - the spread at San Antonio from 1st to 5th was 3.1 in 2017 and 3.9 in 2018, so it increased by about 0.3/0.4 by finals. This year the spread at San Antonio from 1st to 5th was 2.7, so to see that spread jump by 0.8 last night to 3.5 is a big change relatively quickly (twice the increase seen in previous years over a much shorter time).

I think the top 5 this year could very well be within 3 points of each other at finals (and were only 2.7 apart in SA), so almost 3.5 between 1st and 4th does seem like a big jump suddenly.

Medalist quality in a vacuum maybe, and last year for sure, but there are three incredible hornlines that I'd have to put above them this year. Still, I'd love to see their brass in 4th, they sound miles better than BD.

2010, they were 6th overall.

Maybe blue streamers a-la-BD 2016?

I wonder if changing the uniforms slightly while keeping the overall style of them would help as much as removing the tarps (at least, considering how heavily integrated they are into the visual design/drillwriting). How about a uniform in the same style as the current ones, but with a color scheme and design that imitates the classic red uniforms? Especially if they went with a color scheme similar to the 2016 uniforms, bright red and white could pop quite nicely on the tarps.

I've mentioned this before, but their props this year remind me a lot of SCV's backdrop props in 2013 from their Les Mis show, and I think that their use to hide MMs was very effective (especially for the closer). Phantom's use of their props might be slightly less so this year, but having seen it live I don't find them ineffective/detrimental.

It's got a lot of potential but so does Phantom's show, and they each have some moments that just don't work quite as well as the rest of the show and (in my opinion) are holding them back. I think a little bit of Spirit's music gets choppy and repetitive at times, if they improved the musical flow of the show it would go a long way. I love the change from black uniforms to neon uniforms but I'll admit that I don't entirely get the change to white in between; the skirts allow for some really cool visual effects but I think the sudden shift to white for just a brief section of the show disrupts what is otherwise a really effective and cohesive overall aesthetic for a well-designed show. I love the guard work and the hornline sounds amazing too. I love Phantom's show too though (and can't wait to see it with the new ending I've heard about!)... part of me hopes that instead of having to decide which of them makes it to Saturday, we can see them both finish strong enough to push past Crossmen.

Phantom's props this year remind me a bit of SCV's props in 2013, which I thought were used quite well.

Love that show

From the scope... I'd say Bloo takes GE, BD takes visual, and SCV takes music. It's going to be close overall, but my bet's on Bloo.

I think they meant Cavies coming in 2 points behind SCV/Bloo and 4 ahead of Cadets/Blue Stars tonight, not Cavies 2 behind SCV and 4 ahead of everyone else in the top 6.

Is this the show that's usually an exhibition? I seem to remember it not being scored, at least the past few years.

Was SCV's full closer on the field tonight? The closer last night didn't seem like it was all of the music from the standstill video of last week's encore, I'm not sure if it was incomplete or just rewritten partially.

Haha that seems like a reasonable guess... I was thinking mostly about this show's lineup but there are definitely a few others I'd say are recognizable (Bluecoats, BD, Cadets, and for some reason BAC to me but I can't really back that one up besides saying "it looks like BAC to me")

I'm happy to see them climbing! Saw the show in Rockford last night and loved it (Spirit was incredible too). Also, Crossmen, Spirit, and Phantom as a block all moved closer to Blue Stars tonight, it'll be interesting to see if any of those three pass them up by August (and also to see where Mandarins/BK/Academy fit in at San Antonio).

Not even Phantom and Crown? I agree on a lot of the corps, but Phantom and Crown's uniforms scream corps identity to me. The black and silver with a pith helmet is classic Phantom, and whether you like Crown's less traditional uniform or not, the shako is Crown through and through.
