  1. By chance did you notice the attached article is from March 22, 2020?
  2. No, but she was one of thousands who have experienced abuse. Sorry to say "thousands" is vastly under estimated. Imagine your difficult childhood with much more than the usual "angst" that everyone goes through. This is not a Drum Corps issue. This is a society issue. I wish I could say I was wrong, but there are so many victims. Please just try to listen to what people say.
  3. There are many times when I refuse to read the comments. They are most often from people who have no clue about what other people go through in their lives and who feel the need to comment. Throughout my life I've met people who were victims and mostly from their family. I had a friend in the '80s who had very abrasive opinions on many things. If you listen closely you see patterns. We got closer and I eventually asked her. "Did something happen in your childhood that made you feel this way?" The answer... "yes." Her father abused her as a child. We are talking about organizations but for many it's beyond that.
  4. Wow - I didn't live in Montreal at the time, but I did wear a jacket to finals. I didn't see snow during finals but as indicated elsewhere, the stadium was mostly covered over the stands. Trust me to say August in Montreal is no where near snow producing temperatures. It's actually still quite hot.
  5. I think Regiment's current administration thought carefully about the plan to go forward. They do not have the resources that others seem to have.
  6. I listen to that show and I think how absolutely wonderful and unique the arrangements are. I can't get enough of that lower brass. It makes me nostalgic for that kind of music on the field.
  7. Instrument expense won't be that great - you can get a clarinet for $80 and a Saxophone for $229 on Amazon. They might not make it past one performance though.
  8. It was just over a year ago that we pondered the activity evolving with the vote on woodwinds. Now we ponder the survival of the activity. It feels like it's been 10 years since that vote was taken.
  9. The article says YEA! was founded in 1988 and Cadets became part of it in 1990. Youth Education in the Arts was founded in 1988 as a nonprofit that sought to instill life lessons in young people through music and dance. Performing in band competitions since 1934, the Allentown Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps became one of the programs under the YEA in 1990, competing every summer at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown. I always thought the Cadets were part of the original founders. Even the YEA! Wikipedia page says it was formed in 1990. YEA! Wikipedia Can anyone clear up the timeline here?
  10. I know we are on a specific forum, but I felt the need to modify that. We are living in an event that has evolved and continues to evolve day-by-day.
  11. Thanks - that was really interesting. I loved his candor about what happened in the 2019 season as well as learning about all the stuff he's worked on/is working on. He's a really interesting person.
  12. Were there really snow flurries back then? I know the day before Finals was very cool for that time of year but it was not that cold. I was in Montreal visiting for finals at the time and there were was no snow while I visited.
  13. "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Mayo Angelou
  14. Telling someone who says to shut it by telling them to shut it. We have now divided by zero.
  15. IMO - the founding fathers of the greatest democracy on the planet were not idiots. Society evolves. They based their foundation on what was current at the time.
