  1. Bluecoats have been doing a similar thing with their camp schedule for the last few years, so it probably won't affect Cadets too much
  2. we had a kid in our pit in 1985 who showed up for our first tour (probably about a 10-12 day trip) with nothing but a pair of black socks and the clothes he was wearing. I guess he didn't understand that we weren't coming home every day.
  3. well if he was dumb enough to go down into the hole did you really want him in the corps anyway?
  4. so poor drill design hurt their brass score - sounds about right.
  5. Hey drum corps for another 35 years wouldn't be such a bad thing. and if those 3 corps design and perform the best shows year in and year out then they deserve to win.
  6. I believe the majority of the bluecoats drum line comes from Rythym X - and I believe 4 of the 5 basses are in the rythym X bass line this year.
  7. I once watched a little kid run right into the back of the inside of one of our tenor players cut away drums. Our tenor player even tried to avoid the kid but he still managed to ssmack his face right into the inside of the drum shell. That kid dropped like a bag of rocks. I was on 1st bass and was right bhind this as it happened. Couldn't keep a straight face the rest of the parade.
  8. I marched Cymbals in 1982 and the tune we played for parades had cymbal rides for the snares so I had to march backwards a lot during parades. The snares used to mess with us telling us there were piles behind us to make us jump around trying to avoid them. Some of the best parades were when our snare line decided to wear those big old mirrored sunglasses like the state troopers did. We started using those as rear view mirrors and could see the piles coming up behind us.
  9. when I marched they first started the contracts in my 6th year. Basically the contract listed all of the practices and performances and I went over the list with the director and we discussed any conflicts I may have had in which I would not be able to make something. Any conflicts were then noted and the decision on whether I was excused for the conflict was noted. then I signed the contract, and my signature was my agreement that I would be with the corps for everything listed unless otherwise noted.
  10. so them and Cavies are both doing Drum Music this summer
  11. I know last year when Bluecoats decided to make their guard 1/2 male & 1/2 female when it came down to finalizing the female spots 4 members from the 2011 guard were let go in favor of 4 new members.
  12. We had a snare drummer who had marched with us since 1978. His 22nd birthday was on finals day in 1984. We had just come off a folded season in 1983 and were not going to make finals. We didn't even make semi finals so technically our season ended 2 days before his 22nd birthday, however when DCI was contacted prior to the season he was told that he could not march the season because he turned 22 prior to the end of the season. So he ended up being on the drum staff and working with the snare line he should have been marching in. Prefer the new rule with the deadline prior to the season
  13. this ctually happened in my corps in 1981 & 1982 - a woman who was 24 & 25 during those years used her younger brother's birth certificate because back when her brother was born Pennsylvania didn't have the Sex of the child on the birth certificate and her brother's name was ambiguous enough that noone would think twice about it being a girls name. The corps management never knew about this, and I only found out by accident in 1991 when I marched with her in a senior corps and discovered how old she really was and would have been back in 1981 & 1982
  14. I think it was 1987 we practiced late into the evening the previous night then had to head over to the Canton civic Center to go through security and have our equipment set up in the stands of the auditorium. So the next day was the longest day since we had to get up at probably around 3:30 am and head over to the Canton Civic Center where we were performing for the Mayor's Breakfast event for the Hall Of Fame festivities in Canton. We were set up in the stands of the civic center with all of the diners at tables on the auditoriums floor and up on the stage. We performed our 1987 show, and then some small ensembles and soloists went down to the floor and performed as well. We had to stay in the stands through the whole event since it would be quite disruptive to have us moving about and moving our equipment during the speeches and such. So we were trapped there. Then after we finally got out of there I believe we then had to march in the Hall Of Fame Parade which is something like 5 miles long through Canton. and I believe we then hopped on the buses after that parade and headed out to a show somewhere that evening - usually the show was in PA and I'm thinking it was the erie show in 1987.
  15. we have a winner - do you know the year? I believe it was 1979 but not 100% sure on that.
  16. I don't believe they used 11 the whole show - I think it was only 9. (just confirmed via video 1989 spirit only had 9 bass drums) Think sometime in the late 70's
  17. name the corps (and year as bonus) of the group that marched 11 bass drums for the whole show and not just small sections like last year.
  18. I believe the season now is 8 weeks long. In the 80's when finals was the third weekend of August and the first shows were the first weekend of June the season was 10 or 11 weeks. However, the corps now usually move in mid-may and do 3-4 weeks of evrydays prior to the season, so they are together as a unit everyday for 11-12 weeks now, and when I marched in bluecoats we would only do 1 week of everydays prior to the season which would give us 11-12 weeks total as well.
  19. I know of the 1st corps to do it after sitting out 2 seasons (1979 & 1983) is the Bluecoats and I believe they were the first corps to have folded twice and then made finals I would guess that the corps you are refferring to is the Cascades, and if I'm correct they have also sat out again for their 4th time after having made finals
  20. we had a bus driver who during a drive from Canton Ohio to Cleveland Ohio ended up going to Pennsylvania. We were all a llittle confused on the bus when we saw the you are now entering PA signs and there were no other corps vehicles in sight. We showed up about a hour after the rest of the corps. this was 1984
  21. I have a percussion Field Judges tape from early august 1982 for the Bluecoats.
