  1. I think the Cavies dominance is directly related to the fact that their Director is awake, alert, and posting on internet message boards at 4:42 a.m. You know what they say about the early bird...
  2. 89 Phantom Regiment 90 Star of Indiana 96 Phantom Regiment 00 Cadets 00 Cavaliers 02 Seattle Cascades 03 Phantom Regiment 04 SCV
  3. I'm so glad that everyone is mentioning Star 90 - it really is the only answer to this question. To me, the chord mentioned above (the one where the low brass enters) is the greatest chord in DCI history. So powerful. I am lucky to have that Legacy DVD, and I've probably watched the last 45 seconds of the opener 250 times.
  4. As you can see from my sig, this is a very difficult choice. But, based on the fact that Crown absolutely blew my mind when I saw them live in Madison, my vote goes to yes. ...with 05 SCV a close second.
  5. Hmmm... I was surfing YouTube last night, and I watched the Blast "Battery Battle" between Jeff and Nick. Looks like Mr. Queen won this battle...
  6. I'll be hosting another CA meeting next Monday at 3:00 a.m. On the agenda for this week is an honest, open discussion about how repeatedly listening to the "spooky" part (right after the ballad) can actually cause skin lesions... in a good way.
  7. You know, Pearson promised to get back to the true roots of Vanguard, but his obsession with the corps song has gone a little too far, don't you think?
  8. This one is easy: the chord near the end of Star's opener in 1990. I don't have the CD here, so I can't give the time, but I can descibe it... We're reaching the end of the closer, we just had the big statement by the sops (while the pit bangs on several large metal objects), and all of the sudden, the pace quickens... digadigaDAHDAH..........digadigaDAHDAH..........digadigaDAHDAH...DAHDAH...DAHDAH ...DAHDAH...DAH (mello run up to) CHORD Good God - that gave me chills just TYPING it.
  9. Well, seeing as I'm the official ombudsman of the 2005 SCV appreciation society and I STILL started a thread about 06 Crown being the best 8th place show ever, I guess you can see how much this Crown show impressed me.
  10. 1. Crown's hit in the opener, complete with late resolution. Out. Stand. Ing. 2. The crescendo at the end of Phantom's ballad. *melts* 3. The brief sop/contra duet that the Bluecoats pulled off so brilliantly. 4. The low brass "Da-Da-Da-Da dadadaDA dadadaDA" part about 3 minutes into the Blue Devils show that reminded me of a train chuggin along - too cool. 5. Crown's "spooky" part (mentioned above). I was the guy cupping my ears at finals.
  11. Seriously, this is getting bad. I've probably listened to the APD from quarterfinals over 150 times now. I tap out every hit on my leg. I even tilt my head on the 4th note at the intro to the ballad. In one summer, 2006 Crown has entered my top-5 of all time most listened to shows. It probably won't ever pass the 3,509 times I've listened to 1985 Suncoast, but it might end up at #2. Good job Crown. Thanks for an outstanding show. I was one of the 21,000 people booing, and then on my feet cheering when your score was announced in Madison. Ok, I'll say it. Hands down the greatest 8th place show EVER.
  12. Not only the best Cadets ballad, but the best ballad of all time.
  13. I agree. I looked it up, and it's been since 1981 (27th Lancers) that anyone outside of "The Big 7" has finished in the top 4. 25 years!! Good job, Bluecoats. I'm even more impressed now.
  14. I'm witcha, Drumcat. All this talk about slide whistles, and yet what everyone is hearing (and discussing in this thread) is the siren whistle. To me, slide whistle = something you'd find in a Count Chocula box. Siren whistle = fun percussion instrument that the Bluecoats used to perfection this year.
  15. I'll say 2009. Their progression since 1999 is as follows: 1999 - 8th 2000 - 7th 2001 - 6th 2002 - 5th 2003 - 4th 2004 - 5th 2005 - 3rd 2006 - 2nd My guesses: 2007 - 3rd 2008 - 2nd 2009 - 1st Two more years of challenging for it, and then a breakthrough in 2009 with their all-black production of Dvorak's "Slavonic Dances".
  16. As long as the drum major is dressed like a Holstein, and the little dude from the guard grabs a mic and sings Ice Castles, I'm there. :P
  17. Actually, I don't. I usually want to hear both sides of a story, but I don't think I need to here. From the rumblings we've heard over the past three years, to the staff quitting over multiple years (including during the season some times), to the multiple problems this year, to what's been written in this thread, I'm not sure if there could be another side. What could he say? Everyone who quit and complained about me are big fat liars? It's possible that some of the details are not true (maybe the guard members who collapsed had more to drink/eat that day - who knows). But if you look at the body of evidence, it appears that this guy is doing a disservice to the kids and staff, even to the point of endangering their health. My guess is DCI steps in and does something about it. And if a lot of those talented kids from CR end up at Troop next spring, well, I can't think of a better outcome to some of this mess.
  18. Since the links are now down, anyone care to give a short summary so people like myself, who just opened this thread, have a clue what the heck you people are talking about?
  19. ...here are their finishes: (1999) 8th (2000) 7th (2001) 6th (2002) 5th (2003) 4th (2005) 3rd (2006) 2nd What will happen in 2007? A continued climb? Or another "let's play latin!" toe-stub like 2004? OK, maybe that's a little harsh. '04 was a solid show - just not a crowd favorite like 03 and 06. The question is, can they do it? I mean, can they REALLY do it? (Please God - all black and Dvorak in 2007)
  20. 1. Niagra Falls 2. Machine 3. Four Corners 4. 007 5. Frameworks 6. My Kind of Town 7. Spin Cycle Four Corners should get more love, but it's undeniable that Niagra Falls and Machine are at the top, IMO.
