Maybe some people don’t look at it as a way to save taxes. Maybe they figure non-profit/charity status is an indication that it’s a good organization to support.

Yeah my background was Senior corps and marched DCA and two other Senior circuits that no longer exist. Another “what’s wrong” is the idea that DCI and DCA are totally separate from each other. IMO what hurts one circuit is bad for the other. We will see how the change goes

Where I worked they had annual fund drive (won’t say the name) under an umbrella organization. Then word got out how much our donations went to the umbrella groups overhead…. Why use GoFundMe and not have all the $$$ go to the Cadets or any other group.

Lol I joined a Sr corps that had been inactive. They had to open up the ranks to high schoolers like me to get enough warm bodies. Scared the crap out of management having that many minors.

Oh I understand about less corps and hence less spots in corps. Same people who say “we never had auditions” also complain about lack of lots of local corps. Of course in this case it’s cause and effect. Some just can’t or don’t want to realize things have changed and not just in the DC world.

Sounds like what some people on the Back in the day DC Facebook groups are like. “Corps don’t take in less talented or kids who haven’t played before”. Uh yeah reason is the corps don’t need to take in those people to have a full corps. And heavens forbid someone mention “audition”… just can’t get the idea that when more people want to join than max corps size a corps has to audition.

One thing I missed being away at college. My Sr corps did couple of Halloween parades for easy money. Had many members who couldn’t do the parades so went under an assumed name. Corps was 37th Regiment as we got a 37 at the first show we did in almost 2 years. Flannel shirts, jeans and straw farmers hats and less than military bearing. 😆 Sounded like a blast and one thing I wished I could have done with the corps

Sponsors of the Hershey show had stadium scheduled one year but stadium owners refuse to sign a contract with anybody. When stadium owners had chance for Destiny’s Child reunion concert for lot more $$$$$ the corps show was cancelled. Show sponsors went to court but no contract so show group lost. End result no one wants to try another corps show in Hershey.

Still have my 2016 which has CD player that does music CDs and mp3 format. At home it’s my cheapo CD/mp3 player and cheapero DVD player that plays both and uses TV speakers. Have software that records to laptop so play vinyl on $65 player and goes to hard drive. Then burn music CD or mp3 format to save. 👍 All my cassette players are kaput 😫

Like I posted before I belonged to a city church that closed a few years back. Choice was keep saying everything is ok or being realistic and do the best we could with what we had. It hurt facing facts but times and society changed from the best times of the 1960s (just like the drum corps activity).

Drum corps is thriving? Getting harder to find housing, three top corps (counting SoA) have taken season off due to issues and expenses keep going up just like everywhere else. I’m glad for what we have and surprised the activity still exists as well as it stand today, but have to be realistic

Been in the area for work and vacation. Used the local airport and spent the night at Biddeford to catch an early flight. Nice area and very nice people. If this can happen here then proves it can happen anyway.

Went to Buccs DCA show one year and Div III corps and Jersey Surf gave exhibitions. Talked to Div III (forget corps name) person and said crowd enjoyed their show. Response was “ sad thing is that was the biggest crowd and response they’ll get all season”.

Yeah why act as if non top corps and their members mean a ####. Not like they’re really part of the activity

But QC Cadets weren’t one of the big name top corps so…. 🤦‍♂️🤬

Didn’t see any call for corps to be local. Saw it more as saying how things have changed.

I’m going to take for granted that DCI and the corps have insurance to guard against lawsuits of various types. But with the info coming out some insurers may take a look at their policy to determine their legal responsibilities if the corps doesn’t appear to doing what they should. Wouldn’t be surprised if the cost of the policies shoot upward and corps responsibilities are more detailed. And also wouldn’t be surprised if some day an insurer says “you didn’t hold up your end on the contract… we not paying a cent”

Knew someone who got caught up in a sting operation. No idea what he might have done, 8 were arrested but state really wanted 2 guys. Lawyers for those 2 kept appealing and the other 6 and their lawyers had to show up for every hearing. Finally state and lawyers for the 6 cut a plea bargain because the 6 would be broke on lawyer fees. Two years probation and permanent record. Don't even have to go to trial to lose your ###. And we won’t know how much this cost DCI and SoA when it’s all over as none of that is released to the public

With a non-profit old car club that lost its NP status for a while with PA. Never got a good explanation from the club BoD why the loss but apparently when your paperwork states why you should be a NP you have to actually DO what the reason states. Have never heard the club described as a charity over the decades and we do not solicit donations. Interesting as the Cadets YEA listing as per Reggi93s link still has the Allentown address.

I was thinking of what’s reported with SCV currently with the money and legal problem. But you bring up a great point of what’s hidden. Went to college in the late 70s and anything nasty was never reported. Heard rumor of student arrests, muggers in certain areas of campus after dark, etc but nothing from the college administration. (Might make the school look bad and lose $tudent$.) Scary when you find out one of the areas was on your usual walking route. Took a state law to change that crap.

Well the problem is due diligence, thinking of parents who don’t know squat about DC so let the kid handle choose. And the kid goes for the history or the line the BoD is pushing.

I didn’t know the name or the connection to CapitolAires. Actually had some of this mixed up with another person.

To tie this in with the thread topic… I’m sure the corps members were not informed of the issues with this person. And for SCV I’m wondering what potential members (and their parents/guardians) are told about SCVs problems the last 2 years. Or is it all about SCVs glory years.
