  1. How about giving us the opportunity to assemble our own "collections" by providing HD-quality performances (when available) for download purchasing? I'm pretty sure I'd pay double the going rate for VPDs to get the full res versions...
  2. Posted elsewhere before I saw this topic: I know it's minor, but I miss being able to hover over the topic title and see a preview of the topic AND the option to go to the first unread. Yes, there's a preview "clickie thing" and there is a first unread "clickie thing" on the first page of the topic but still... And it didn't keep my avatar pic and won't let me browse for it when i try to edit my profile (IE9)...

Yes, there's a preview "clickie thing" and there is a first unread "clickie thing" on the first page of the topic but... And the topic links on a given forum home page are spaced very wide vertically... And it didn't keep my avatar pic and won't let me browse for it (IE9)...
  4. I joined up with 27th part way through the touring season (several members of the Royal Crusaders did)... I was originally filling out a contra spot in the drill (i'm a soprano ) while they were in the midst of teaching the rewrite when a mello spot opened up (I think someone got hurt)... I remember learning the first part of the drill during runthroughs the night before my first show with them... the first time I put on and saw myself in the uniform... I remember retreat being screwed up b/c we weren't going to be able to play off after the scores (sound ordinance I believe). With how the retreat order set up, we were next to the 50 and SCV since we placed 7th in Prelims. At least one corps decided to just leave and troop in front of BD out of order and by the time this got straightened out (with the crowd chanting "let them play") we were told by our DM that we were playing. I think we were the first to play and "Danny Boy" got a wild ovation....
  5. Jumping in the way back machine, it wasn't till recently that I noticed in SCV '78 - just before the big push in "If You Believe" - the guard all click their heels 3 times
  6. Marched Royal Crusader Cadets '72-'74 Royal Crusaders '74-'80 27th Lancers '82 My father marched with St. Vincent's Cadets in the mid/late '50s
  7. A set of limited edition snare heads, complete with military boot tread footprints with the motto YNWA...
  8. This was my first year seeing SCVC (Erie, PA) and I honestly loved their show! I've been an SCV homer since '74 and so many things in SCVC's show gave off that "big corps" vibe. Congrats!!!!!
  9. SCV in '74 was 3rd in prelims and (IIRC) chose not to go on last as defending champion, preferring their 3rd place spot behind Anaheim and Madison...
  10. Well, since you mentioned it... :thumbup:/> :thumbup:/> :thumbup:/>
  11. For anyone that needs a couple of 30 second fixes, I put a couple of links to clips in the SCV 2013 thread...
  12. A couple of highlights from last night's show in Erie... The opening hit (sorry for the portrait orientation :shutup:/>/> when it plays it's not turned, just portrait): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd0JAS5Ed8Q "I Dreamed a Dream" Hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEw9WtbW4Wk
  13. Since JWillis wrote such a detailed review (and one that mirrors almost all of my thoughts about each corps), my review will be much shorter... Venue and weather were perfect. Veterans Stadium isn't big, and the audience is tight on the field, so big and loud was the name of the game for the spectators. The forecasted rain was scared away and the evening was perfect: cool and little breeze to affect equipment. I got lucky and met someone selling tickets outside and I wound up just off the 50 a few rows below the press box... :thumbup:/> (My topic description refers to the fact that everyone had at least one equipment drop or person fall - Blue Knights had two people trip/stumble on their tarp thingy and one girl in Spirit had two drops within a minute of each other...) SCV Cadets: Loved their show, and were a perfect start to the evening. "Tender Land" was especially enjoyable, given the A corps' history with it... Oregon Crusaders: Loved the sound. Hate the unis. Got a kick out of "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" since I've sung a mens' quartet version of it - I liked their take on it. Troopers: Wonderfully enjoyable show! Felt like the parts of the middle third lost steam/focus a little, but great to see a show like this from them. Academy: For the most part really liked their sound, but agree with Jwillis that parts of the show seem disconnected and sections of the drill seem to suffer from the "let's run just to run" mentality. Great show from INT tonight. Blue Stars/Blue Knights: I combined them here because, honestly, if you switched shows between the two corps, they would have been no more or less enjoyable or memorable to me. The horn and drum lines are definitely the highlights - the show themes and overall construction left me wanting something else, unfortunately. Spirit: Yay! Screamers in the house! And well done, too. Portrayed the speakeasy theme quite well without overdoing it. SCV: Thank you. Really. This show just dares you to not be drawn in in the first 30 seconds and just holds you in its grasp. The mello line is phenomenal and the entire corps is absolutely selling this for all its worth.
  14. Overall, I loved the show! Last night there were a couple points in the middle where they lost steam/focus a little but still... Sunburst!
  15. ABSOLUTELY love the show! Opening set from last night in Erie:
  16. Great show last night! Drove up from Cleveland, found someone with extra tickets outside and wound up on the 50 (ok, the 48)! :thumbup:/>/> Hope to write up a short review later today, but I'll offer a couple of pics for now... Troopers sunburst: SCV opening set:
  17. I've been watching the radar for this all day...right now, what rain that is out there is moving either north or south of Erie... I'm debating making a last minute decision to make the drive up from Cleveland and find a ticket from someone since this is probably my last, best chance to see SCV and Troopers live given my s####y work schedule...
  18. Actually, with all of the analogies and "most popular" vs. "voted the best" discussions/threads currently active on DCP, a more apt description would probably be that your mint chocolate chip would be the "most popular/best seller" and the rum raisin would have lots of "Best of Year XXXX" stickers from the Federation of Ice Cream Makers of America around its name and the same 5 gallon tub would sit untouched in the cooler... I do, however, agree with the "I want ice cream" sentiment...
  19. According to Boo's blog, the last recorded attendance in Atlanta was 13,900 (he didn't give a final number, but that was pretty late in the show)
  20. Has anybody seen anything regarding the image quality for this broadcast? There is currently no information in the FAQ at www.dcifinals.com... ----------------------------------- From the viewpoint of a long-time fan (once a rabid one, now an interested one): The addition of a live, streamed Finals broadcast is a welcome offering. I do not belong to FN (financially able to, however) and view the $69 cost as a very reasonable price to pay to 1. Enjoy Finals 2. Not have to invest multiple days of travel, hotels, food, etc. in a town/area I don't have an interest in visiting (Finals alone is not enough of a draw for me anymore) and the amount of time required isn't worth it to me anymore 3. Potentially watch FINALS with other people (parents, fellow DC fans) w/o financial/time constraints that a lot of them have As an additional data point, I do still plan on attending the Thursday theater broadcast, so it's not an either/or proposition, and given my current work/travel schedule's uncertainty, attending a live show prior to Indy is 50/50. I wonder how many long-time DC fans have similar circumstances that $70 to see Finals...live...versus nothing or not going to Finals in person is a VERY worthwhile expenditure...?
  21. in '80 they were 7th, but still a commendable turnaround...I also loved the '80 show, regardless of where they placed
  22. Were there upper level tickets available for this show at some point? Ticketmaster shows ALL of the upper level sections as having no tickets available...
