  1. The really old school of thought when DCM was in play----add 18 points to your DCM score, and you had your DCA score "range"---although the judging criteria has changed, sheets have changed, etc........................so, it's a present "take it for what it's worth" equation/formula
  2. The communication sub-caption has presently been included in the Kilts scoring, and would ascertain it is in the scores from Mankato also. Historically, the Kilts are the very first all-age corps "outta the gate" for performances at DCI shows (by a couple of weeks). Thus, any adjudication process in putting numbers to all-age corps performances by DCI judges (understanding and using the DCA criteria and philosophy) unfolds---typically, after the Kilts first show, things tend to settle in across the board for the all-age corps at DCI shows as the DCI panels are more familiar with the DCA adjudication process. All-age scores at DCI (and even the old DCM) shows typically are lower than one may expect in comparison to a DCA show.
  3. VERY nice and doable performance schedule----good stuff!! Go Kilts!!
  4. Coming out of last weekend (on June 26th) in Michigan City, The Kilties were at a 52 (and some change) if recalled correctly....thus the 59 and change in Cedarburg seems relatively reasonable when setting the Lisle score aside. Most of the Lisle scores for all the corps were down across the board, although the spreads seemed correct.
  5. There was no Visual Effect adjudication this evening. In the case of The Kilties at least...........no points were awarded in that caption to the corps. Rather, that caption score was -0-. No number assigned.. That certainly had something to do with The Kilties score. Other corps? One would have to ask them since recaps are private.
  6. Great show at one heII'va show site..................good stuff!! http://www.kilties.org/index.php/shop/17-tickets/69-general-admission-seats
  7. From my very limited understanding, the matter was all handled privately and quietly between all parties and resolved. Had the "lid been kept on the kettle" and not opened---by someone associated in some manner with the corps from my limited understanding; the corps could had (as example) simply mentioned they would not be attending the next DCA Championships due to costs involved---which certainly would had been perceived as very rational and sensible reasoning, case closed; they return the following season. Sadly, a scenario as such did not happen. Great corps, sadly missed.
  8. Yeah, apparently, as example, all the honorees of the DCI Hall of Fame don't exist either since it is not mentioned per sie in the provided'"sampling" within the general scope of the association---I'm learning somethin' everyday!!! aT leeast I'ms a goode sPellar and a kracK steWdent ats goode graEmmer-----I's gots dat stufF goingS fir mee, tHank gOd.
  9. It's sensed a Drum Corps 101 course should be considered next on your agenda in the quest for drum corps wisdom. Only "member corps" defined by each association actually have voting rights in both DCI and DCA (thus, not all corps have that privilege, in DCI and/or DCA) and both associations have guidelines that have to be strictly followed upon signing the required participation agreements (of each association)---in addition DCI provides a structured performance fee. All the same requirements need to be adhered to by the "all age" corps as do all the DCI corps, i.e. music licensing, insurance, financials, etc. etc.
  10. Of course there is, "all age" corps are considered associate members and do pay dues to DCI. There is even a separate recap by caption for those "all age" corps that appear at DCI shows.
  11. The long and short of it; with younger members even a person who is a "green" staffer, for the most part, these younger members take what these staffers mention as the all almighty end to all, even if the staffers are flat out a$$ wrong. Whereas a more seasoned (in life and/or the activity) performer member may just question things---although it should be queried privately.. It's all about balance and respect...it travels both ways.
  12. Thus, in some cases it's easier to bull$hIt a younger person and get away with it....when not so much with those more seasoned in the rigors of life. Bottom line, no matter what age or station in one's life they may be at................the ability to act like a knucklehead has no boundaries.
  13. Lloyd's last name is spelled Pesola. We've been very good and close friends since the very early 60's when we marched together in our hometown corps; good times then and way well beyond---although we haven't seen each other face to face in a couple years due to geography, etc..........he's a good man.
  14. With the passing of Jim the activity certainly lost a great deal; almost too much to imagine. It should be noted in addition to Jim's passing, another person was terribly injured in the accident which altered his life's path and I sense the betterment of the activity as well---Lloyd Pesola.
  15. As best recalled, DCI is 30 minimum for the competitive aspect..
  16. DCI has (for many years) an "all-age" division and "all age" corps are judged and given a score---using the DCA adjudication criteria.
  17. Not knowing the real "inside scoop", one could speculate (in a scenario as such) that a certain skill level may be required that the alternates have not yet attained for said particular open position. In short, it may be akin to a starting quarterback going down before the season begins and the football club seeks a similar seasoned and/or skilled player from the outside to fill the position, all the while the club may have back-up quarterbacks on their roster.
  18. Jolly Jesters................. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/da/fd/cb/dafdcbdb275c11571e7ec04326c02a8e.jpg Come to think of it---these may come full circle back into vogue and be the new "in" uniforms.
  19. http://www.2coolpercussion.com/ Ask for Ron.............
  20. At one time, if I recall, many corps from Canada were on Bb, Scout House for sure. Maybe the manufacturer was Walley (sp?) Royce?
  21. The Powerbore has a heavy mouthpiece receiver pipe with the shank of the mouthpiece itself being more encased within the receiver pipe---than a traditional receiver pipe, among other things. http://www.kanstul.net/detail.php?pass_search=102.0000&pass_instrument=Bugle .
  22. .........and bugles can be in Bb. WAY, Way, way BITD many to most were.
