  1. ............and at a huge cost, speculative, and out of reach to the common consumer and/or amateur enthusiast. I rest my case.
  2. The drum corps activity (and corps in general), from the onset (early 1900's), was never designed or intended to be what it has become. Those that know the history of the activity, it's origins, it's struggles, etc. etc. realize that fact. It's akin to making an automobile then, over time, thinking that maybe it could fly as well---and clamping some wings and a jet engine on the "for road use only" auto-----only to see it crash and burn.
  3. The Kilties have one of their countrymen performing with us this season, so they may feel at home----in short, if they have the time to stay in the US until over Labor Day, contact The Kilties......we will make room for them to perform and find them a place to stay---if we can get word to them.
  4. 4pm start---Alumni "Meet & Greet" at Angry Brothers Pub!! Just a few blocks away from the Kiltie Klassic!!
  5. If recollection is correct, World class corps receive a set performance fee per show, whereas Open class split the proceeds of (the end total) what DCI charges show (TEP's) sponsors for Open class shows throughout the season. In short, Open class corps receives a piece of the pie (at the conclusion of the season) of all the Open class shows they were involved in---World class receive pay based on a set performance fee--per show. It may have changed in recent years---but, then again--maybe not................. Bottom line.............it's all 'bout da money.
  6. I sense this was for marketing purposes as well, since it appeared to happen as one total change---establishing the World Class (old Div. I) and combining Div II and III into one class---Open.
  7. Amongst other things: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_Comic-Con_International
  8. I sense you are correct----a generational gap perhaps, inasmuch some have lived what many have only read or heard about.
  9. I suspect cultural changes were more of the demise to many a corps.
  10. That's akin to stating the United States entered WW2 in 1944, because we faired better after Normandy; thus let's forget about the time from December 7, 1941 to June 6, 1944.
  11. Just to set the record straight---I am a huge drum corps activity supporter (amongst other areas of the activity presently being involved with). With that said---numbers do not lie. Best case scenario, present 50 DCI corps with a max amount of members allowable = 7500 participants. 1972 with 472 field show performing junior corps at a max membership of a low average of 40 = 18880. Net lose, 11,380 participating members.
  12. On an active performing participant level, one can easily calculate there are approximately (over) 11,000 less performing participants than in the year 1972.
  13. The Kilties score decreased from Rockford to Whitewater and I suspect for the same reasons Govies dropped as well. 1) Large panels vrs small panels after July 4th. 2) DCA adjudication is all from the box, with the larger panels DCI provides---there are judges on the field as well. 3) Kilts and Govies like to screw with everyone's brains!!
  14. Lombardi 1,673.15 PTS. (-781.05 PT. Penalty)
  15. I would suspect those tasks are delegated to others within the organization as a part of particular job descriptions; with George Hopkins having possible oversight, of some sort.
  16. According to YEA's 990's George Hopkins reported salaries range in the 150k plus annually, any reported bonuses not included.
  17. Kilties, all-age, were singing in 1998............as a segment of the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teJbZtqEsrw
  18. Youse means youse kan't talk 'bout and understandz whats I's was writings aboutz? Just becuze I's wnet to Mick-Donalds thiss morning and sitted down before me's realized I's forget to put on mys pants---dozen't means I's old an dozen't knows whatz I's doin', ya know. I should make bail by noon.
  19. Jeff, it was a DCI show and one of the first full panel shows, hence the adjudication was formatted under the positioning of judges per DCI protocols, which (unlike DCA) have some on the field.
  20. The corps' visual caption supervisor and visual designer, plus also in charge of show coordination, Mr Ed Warren, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in mid or so May; a sad loss to the corps and the activity as a whole. With that and after the shock of Ed's passing, the corps had to secure a visual designer to finish the other half of the visual show weaving it to the first half of the show and make other adjustments to move forward. The corps has been approximately two weeks behind schedule but is now catching up rapidly, already well ahead of last season at this time of the year. Sunday evening was the first time the corps played through the full closing number along with performing most of the visual. The Kilts will be fine................after all: We Winna Be Dauntit!!!
  21. Kilts--DCI-Whitewater---50.15. Full panel, including judges on field.
