  1. That might be the case but UNT and Paul Rennick pretty much define Texas drumlines although I'm sure there are people from Texas in just about any corps with the amount of quality drummers that come from that state.
  2. I think you are talking about Paul Rennick. Colin McNutt is an east coast UMass guy. Paul Rennick could easily run for president of Texas if they ever decided to secede from the union.
  3. So why did they put a retractable roof on the place if nothing inside can get wet? Last time I checked there are plenty of outdoor stadiums with exposed speakers and scoreboards.
  4. I may be biased but I love the Glassmen's "Old School" t-shirt. Its definitely a hit with the alumni and anyone who has ever spent any time at G-West.
  5. Out of curiosity, I was wondering this from the stands last night and then I saw the bass line's shako's up close. Has the corps moved the plumes from the side back to center?
  6. I spent most of the day in Toledo and had no idea SCV was doing an exhibition only performance until the awards were announced but I noticed several holes on the field, specifically, one of the center 2 snare drums and the 4th bass drum. I spoke briefly with Brian Hickman after the show and he told me that when SCV called him this afternoon they had 16 kids out tonight.
  7. it was done to the side, or at least at a good angle last night in Columbus. It definitely wasn't straight forward. I was about 12 rows up behind the drum major and had a pretty good view of it.
  8. This is a little before my time but the last minute of '87 SCV and the Great Gate of Kiev but from my own personal experience, seeing the last minute of '96 Phantom Regiment in person.
  9. The Fan Network is showing Sn Antonio in the list of shows to download but when you select a corps, the show is not on the list. I'm guessing they must be close to having them up soon.
  10. I still have my '98 mid season cd from the Alamo Stadium. I still distinctly hear the scv drumline warming up to 9/8 rolls in the back ground during our ballad.
  11. I remember that show. That show and the free day following were the only opportunity I've had to visit San Antonio but I really enjoyed it all. Even if it was 110 degrees while we were there.
  12. Yes they did. They dropped the previously announced Clue theme for this year's show.
  13. Sounds like I've been lucky to have never experienced anything like that. I've played bass drum for 2 years in high school, 4 in college and 2 summers of drum corps. I've never played a drum smaller than a 28" and 3 of the years in college plus 1 summer of corps was on a 32" and I've never even experienced any issues with my back to this point and it has been 10 years since the last time I carried a drum. Once you recover, make sure you get properly stretched from now on and never lean back, always lean forward to stretch your back when you need it. I remember one specific day on tour in '98 near the end of the season where our time was short for morning stretch for some reason and my body really felt it the next day. Carrying large drums are definitely not good for you but we can only try to take specific precautions to minimize the results of it.
  14. FYI... anyone wishing to donate electronically can go here. http://gweardesigns.com/index.php?option=c...1&Itemid=53
  15. They had a hole in the 4 drum spot in the drill in Toledo last night.
  16. I posted this in th Glassmen thread and didn't receive any response. Does anyone know where the Glassmen are being house for rehearsal this afternoon? I'd like to swing by for bit before going to the show. Thanks,
  17. Anyone know where the corps is being housed in Columbus today?
  18. I can't speak for now but when I graduated from Morehead 10 years ago, the grand majority of people who marched were in the percussion program. There were a few horn players and a couple of color guard members but I would estimate 75% of those who marched were in the percussion program. Maybe it is different now since Southwind moved to Kentucky during this time but I don't know for sure.
  19. I saw video of SCV's preview show from the un-named website and I got the same vibe from watching it. I felt that their visual program looked very simple. Over the last couple of years, I felt they were doing too much visually to be successful. Now I feel they aren't doing enough.
  20. While that may be true, I would believe Remo can do the same Laser printing on a PowerMax head or an Emperor just as well as they can on an Ambasador. If Crown wanted them bad enough, all they have to do is threaten to switch to Evans when their contract is up and I'm sure Remo will create a prototype set for them. Just like BD did last year, I'm sure Crown will pull out green heads in the last couple of weeks before finals when they make their last head change. BTW... Evans can to the laser printing as well on the heads too. Redline Percussion had the first set of them I saw at WGI finals this season.
  21. Maybe i've missed this somewhere but is it some sort of vanguard tradition to have the feather's down in the preseason? I've never noticed before and they look a bit Cavalier like with them down.
  22. If it truly is the same Wilson Art finish that Rhythm X used, it is basically a black finish with the grey streaks giving it a wood grain kind of look to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it is because of the high gloss finish to it as well. http://samples.wilsonartcontract.com/p-516...ar-7944-01.aspx
  23. That picture of the Bluecoats finish look almost identical to the Wilson Art Madagascar finish that Rhythm X used on their Dynasty drums this season.
  24. I had a thing for the BK's guard in '98. They had a pretty good run of attractive guards in the late 90's.
  25. I've had the new uniforms semi described to me a couple of months ago. I'm pretty sure you will know the new uniforms from the old ones when you see them.
