  1. Unfortunately, as corps have found out, getting rights to actually play his stuff takes years if it's not #### near impossible.
  2. Would that corps announcement have been the pre-recorded voice of Fran by chance?
  3. This 100%. Drum Corps is competitive and I get it...we all get it. I enjoyed marching against PR in my years...always a class act. It doesn't always surprise me that the casual fan is all about the numbers..., just look at professional sports. I play a LOT of pool...which means I'm around a LOT of "fans." If you're howling at the moon about how bad a professional quarterback is playing, then get out there and show what YOU'RE made of. These MM's gave their hearts and souls. If you did march, you should remember the expectations that were set. What more can I ask of a member of any corps than what was asked of me when I marched. I want all the corps to be competitive. But most of all, I want all the members to show me something and take something away from their journey. It's a life changing experience.
  4. A decade before my time but I do love the Kilties. Dad did too. I think he saw them, 27th and Troopers as what he called "iconic" corps. I'll have to go see if I can find a video once I get off of work.
  5. I think you're right. I heard it was kind of late 70's but I don't remember exactly where. It seems to be a little more random now as far as what's left. I also miss the beach balls LOL
  6. I think PR will be fine. They know the needs to keep moving them forward and they certainly created enough buzz this past season in some good ways by quelling the naysayers. I look forward to seeing some staff announcements and audition / camp reports.
  7. You'll do fine. The advice given here is the best advice for anyone auditioning for any section. Attitude creates your altitude. Be positive, work hard, be coachable and have fun.
  8. Me too brother LOL. And the more I watch the multitude of age-out videos that are popping up on Youtube, the more my brain is trying to convince me that "I've got one more year in me..."
  9. Yep. This tradition is a little easier to clean up I guess. LOL. That tradition started in the 70's and carried through when I marched and beyond. Different groups leave different things but I LOVE this one. The whole concept of "Leaving it all out on the field" is something I hope every MM and fan "get." Things like watching that make me miss it all so much more. Maybe I've still got ONE more year of DCA in me....
  10. That's it. First Yuengling next...the world! Time to move DCA finals to Atlanta. See you all next year at the dome!
  11. Pfffftttt...It'll never happen Fran. That's a fools dream!
  12. Memorial was great. Worst I still feel like was Legion Field in Birmigham that first weekend in August. The place was already 60 years only with little renovation by my first year. Thennnnnnn.....I end up going to UA for college.
  13. I get it. My brother is a nuclear theorist. I asked him once "what's up." His answer was "Up is a preposition meaning away from the center of gravity." I just walked away lol. Then again, he gets amazed when he comes into town from Knoxville and visits the shop because I do all the math for manual offsets and tapers for wood in my head. I truly am a nerd I suppose.
  14. 3768 seats yeah...Wheel of Fortune...1 minute until Wapner...yeah
  15. Show announcer: "And ladies and gentlemen, if you'll focus your attention to seat 42A, please give a warm welcome to the esteemed Fran Haring!!" Yep...probably gonna happen..mor at least it should lol. P.S. Fran, auto correct just tried to change your name to "Farm Hating."
  16. Complete with the ultimate uniform switch...the shoe change. You could do it SCV 80s style. Into the tunnel wearing black shoes...out the other side wearing white. Whatttttttt?!?!?!
  17. And therein lies the possible key. I haven't seen anything really to link DCA to DCI. Individual groups may have association such as CV to Odyssey and SOA. I would think others exist pretty heavily beyond the C2 to Cadets model. I personally velieve that DCA should try to leverage a relationship with DCI to combine some of the smaller shows and get some fans. Both associations would benefit.
  18. I can absolutely ser your point. The burden of travel had been, at least in my DCA time, was / is placed on the southern corps. CV survived and grew because they had a good financial model and had some great leadership in place. That being said, we traveled VERY little. The other southern corps weren't really getting much exposure except maybe Alliance. The Atlanta area is good for draw. The fans here (at least within a few hours) know about DCA because they've seen CV at DCI Regionals. I don't know if the NE corps are taking part in DCI contests. Maybe not getting a score seems a waste of time in some aspects but it gets eyes on you. I would love to see some corps from the North taking the risk and traveling down for DCI. The traveling risk should not be the southern corps only to take IMHO.
  19. People get mad when I try to correct them on proper auxillary percussion techniques. It's a triangle...not a dinner bell from a western movie. Don't even get me started on quiros, claves and proper mallet technique. Good Lord I'm scaring myself....
  20. I don't think it's about isolating the older fans at all. When any of us performed in DCI or DCA it was for any and all. But without reaching out and getting people involved and coming to the show, you can't expect the crowds we once saw. DCI has done a far better job at getting butts in seats. That's simply the truth. When I came back to marching in 2004 I didn't even KNOW there was a DCA. I had to be told that it existed. How would a potential fan know? I remember 2007 very well. The real question is why would we expect to fill a stadium for a show that no one knows about except those already involved? I don't think the fans are being treated badly and running. IMHO, DCA simply isn't doing much to invest in the sustainability of the activity. At least from the outside looking in. If they have some master plan to fill the seats from this point forward, then they should unleash said beast. They've only got 4 days after all. Just my .02
