Go back to what they had, I don't think that they were planning on keeping it anylonger anyway. I will admit that at the begining of this season that i was quite skeptical about how they would look. BUT, the Cadets ONCE AGAIN proved me wrong. Really sweet show design visually. but I could have done without the "Cracker jackin flack crack bang poop stick la la la" voclas in the drum feature......but that chick was a FANTASTIC percussionist.

WHAT A SHOW THAT WAS!!!!!!!!!! I remember watching it from the stands and just wanting to throw something out there at them, like a baby or money or something.....and that was from the upper deck...talk about communicating to the audience!!! The Scouts had so much ELECTRICITY that night!!!!!! I don't feel it from them much these days.....well i do....but not like i used to....... maybe i need some Levitra or something....... :D

in regards to phantom 93 -- i know this is a very minor thing... but that missed release just pisses the #### out of me every time i see the show... i mean... ahhhhh - so bad. SPEAKNG OF MISSED RELEASE...... It seems that there is a soprano hanging over in the 04 Cavies show, or are my ears deceiving me? Can someone confirm that for me?

1997 CADETS never could get into that season. Got the video and watched every other corps.......finally watched CADETS AND CRAPPED MY PANTS!!!! GREAT SHOW!!!!! Cadets 99 also......ya I have been proven a Cadet fan each year after I get the video. -
Now did he write the drill for SCV? And how long did he do that? I have always been impressed with their show design.

SCV goes back to traditional

I'm not a percussionist but I have been around a few different kinds of drumlines.......the thing that stuck out to me this year with the SCV matched grip was how LOUD they were. It was a good kind of loud..... I went to this Thom Hannum clinic once and he was talking about how you want to get all the QUALITY sound out of the drum that you can. (dont quote me) but after our HS drumline did that clinic and with some further follow-up they had this dark phat sound that no one could really compare to. I heard that in SCV this year. Just a deep dark rich sound--i dont know how to describe it because again, I'm no expert percussionist, but I still thought that it was an incredibly unique sound. Maybe someone could explain or elaborate some more on that for me. BUT MATCHED GRIP LOOKS SO BAD ###!!!! I'm for the change. And I am all for a change back to the 97-04 Unis. May sound blasphemous but they were FREAKIN SWEEEET!. Thats all I got -
I heard that Pioneer was playing on G this past season, but I am not 100% on that.

So here I am working on a paper for school, and listening to the Royal Philharmonic playing The Planets....... And I FREAK OUT every time I hear SATURN. I think it is such a good piece! I don't believe that I have ever heard a corps put it in a show.... Am I wrong? PLease correct me if i am. Would it be a song that could make a good ballad on the field? I know it is pretty long but doesn't a lot of drum corps shows end up being the 'cliff notes' of major pieces? Or am i just going crazy here writing my 12 page paper? any input would be appreciated.

EXACTLY what I thought. A GREAT broadcast to introduce new fans. A not so great braodcast for current and active fans. BORING was the word that came to mind.

Bring back the Velvet Knights
cwillpayne replied to bluehull's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
So I am REALLY out of the loop here, could someone please explain to me exactly what happened to VK? I just remember watching them in 96 as a 14 yr old drum corps newbie (first and last time to watch them) and I thought that I either wanted to march with them or with the Troopers.......holy different ends of the spectrum batman...... but i heard it was tax evasion or some garbage, could someone please fill me in on what happened? and why can't theyu come back as the Velvet Knights? -
I had just turned 15 when i decided I wanted to go march. My parents weren't going to let it happen. I asked my dad to drive some friends and I to the first audition camp in November up in that frozen #### known as Casper, Wyoming. He heard the music, he talked to some on staff, he saw us working hard, and he felt comfortable about the organization overall. If anything, beg your parents to come and see it first hand, let them realize that it will not just be a musical learning experience, but a learning experience for life.

CAPITAL REGIMENT - a surprise in the finals?
cwillpayne replied to BlueDevil9499's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Watching semis, and they were the first solid drumline of the night. really enjoyable, also liked how the drumline all threw their sticks out in front of them at the end of the show. I am looking forward to seeing 3 corps from Ohio in finals one day, that will be a treat!! -
I loved the Crossmen this year
cwillpayne replied to tradition's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Did you see the semi's performance? I can understand you being dissapointed with the West Chester show, but being right on the 50 in Foxboro, i heard a totally different hornline than you did. I know it is only a weeks difference, but WOW they were GREAT!!!! Besides, in or out of finals, every member of every corps is out there working their ### off and i think we all need to give them a little more credit for that alone. -
So, what souvies did you get at Finals?

WOW this is really interesting to read about. I, as well as those that i sat with at Foxboro, were all very curious about the 444. Thanks for all of the info about it!! I was thoroughly impressed with Carolina Crowns performance this year. Now that I have some more details to look forward to on the DVD, i am going to enjoy it even more!! Thanks to all of the Carolina Crown staff, members, supporters, andfans who literally gave me one of the top 10 drum corps experiences of my life. FANTASTIC show!!!! What a hornline!!! .......they were almost........angelic....... -
Politically Correct Drum Corps
cwillpayne replied to randyb's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Hmmmmmm interesting. Illegal drugs--I don't think there should be any question about this, especially if it is outlined in the corps policies at the beginning of the season. As for alcohol ----I remember being told every year that it would have no place in the corps that i belonged to especially to those who were underage and there were threats of being kicked out should anyone come back drumk on a free day..... And those who smoked were supposed to do it off the school grounds at all times..... The rules weren't always enforced as I am sure the admin wanted to...but they did a good job. I remember one kid getting sent home for smokin some weed in the middle of the season. I hear that Seattle Cascades has a no tolerance policy for drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Anyone caught with it is sent home....just what I hear though. I think it is a good idea. go nuts. -
So i just got engaged, and my fiance is really wanting to see this phenomenon called drum corps that I rave about all the time...... And I would like to take her to chamionships. I am loooking for 2 tickets (together) that are within the 40's. name your price! Please email me at cwillpayne@hotmail.com Thank you for your time. Cameron

I apologize for making it seem that being critical makes someone lazy, I guess the point I would rather emphasize is that there is a lot of really really good things going on out there on the field, and as fans and supporters of a truly brilliant activity, we need to be more positive. And everyone is entitled to their own opinion which is great and is in fact needed for DC and any other organization that is looking to grow and improve, but it won't hurt to sit back and try to enjoy a drum corps show for its intended purpouse--to get you off your feet and screaming! Thats all I have--I never intend to offend anyone here, so sorry if i did.
