  1. What if the DIV II and DIV III Champion came and played it together? But then you may have the problem of memorizing the music....... Or maybe have the Chez bring the late show band out and play it for us....thats it..ya....
  2. I loved 2006. I thought it was a great year for drum corps. I LOVED Crown this year. I think that they got hosed on saturday night. Thats all really. Kudos go out to all of the groups that performed that night, but I really really have a special place in my heart for crown. Call me and ask for a donation.
  3. I marched with a few guys named Ben and Jack. They were plain gumps, but good guys. But since their rookie year, we called them both (since they were seat partners though the nick names didn't necessarily have any meaning.): Ben Dover and Jack Mehoff Thats all I have.
  4. Ditto on the 02 03 BK shows..... also I can't remember if they were 13 or 14, but Troopers 95 was FANTASTIC. I loved that show.....
  5. I think that I want to hire the entire phantom regiment to play at my wedding. And there will be fireworks after the concert. And there will be flyovers by the blue angels. And we will have root beer floats and donuts for refreshments, thats all.
  6. I went to finals last year and Ron Gunn hooked me up with the absolute SWEEEEETEST tickets in my life. Exec level, plenty of leg room, good people around and i enjoyed it all. I payed more than face value for the tickets--but that was so he could expedite the shipping to get to me before I left. I also threw in an extra $20 because it was good service and easily accesible. Overall, he probably didn't make more than $15 or $20 on the deal, but he was honest in how he dealt with me--and i appreciated it. So if he makes a few bucks selling drum corps tickets, who really gives a rats?!? He is a salesman, and an honest salesman at that. I look forward to doing business with him again. And for all those who forgot to get your tickets early, don't freak out if somone charges a convenience fee, kudos to them for jumping on th ball early. Heaven forbid we be a society of capitalists.......
  7. I was thinking about money for corps the other day.....and DCP....and a friendly wager. What if we as DCP ers got together and put in a pot say---$5-$10 each into a pay pal account, and we all take bets on what the scores will be come August 12th. The person who ends up being the closest wins the recognition of being a donor of a lumb sum to the corps of their choice. So if i win, DCP would give the money to ______________ in my name. Sure it sounds lame--I guess its better than all the tear down of the activity that we are all guilty of (myself included). But to answer the topic question, I have donated at least $300 this year to various corps.
  8. Here it is from my point of view...41 rows up, 50 yard line. Blue Stars: I am a fan. The hornline played very very very well. Drill wasn't that exciting--maybe it was a wee bit dirty but i think they made up for it with intensity in playing. Did I mention their hornline sounded great? Seattle Cascades: I think I understood the show concept......but it is just not working for them right now. I hear the staff is working on some serious changes, but I truly believe that the biggest problem in this show is the visual program. The hornline was a little bright, and i think some of that had to do with some rediculous drill. I have heard better Cascade drumlines. OVERALL, if they can clean it up and allow people to recognize some more melodies, they can pull something off. Crossmen: as others have stated, the narration works GREAT for them. I really enjoyed how they catered it to the home show " Cruising here in denver..." kind of comments....... Hornline was precise but not as dark as I would like to hear one of my favorite corps play. They have the right show design. First colorguard performace that i enjoyed that night. Oh ya, the drumline is pretty smokin. Clean it up some more and they will make it to saturday night--I'm a believer. (but Blue Stars could do it too) SCV: I saw them rehearse in Orem, UT and I'll be honest--I wasn't that impressed with their sound. They looked great, but...but anyway. They lit the crowd on fire saturday night. INCREDIBLE. LOUD, BEAUTIFUL, incredible dynamic control in the drumline and pit, GREAT COLORGUARD, and the show concept is FANTASTIC!!! I loved the show, and so did the 20 people that were with me (10 of them at their first show). "that Christmas color corps was great" and all that kind of stuff. The feet were the worst part i think. I just remember a lot of phasing on side 1 when the hornline was moving......I think they will pull it off though. CADETS: I should have paid the $39 for the All Access pass because I couldn't really access this show at all. I gave them the benefit of the doubt last year when they won, because they were sooo sooooo soooooo good. They are just as good if not better this year, but I will go out on a limb and say that 90% of the people in that stadium left thinking "what just happened?" What happened to the years like 95, 96, or my favorite 97 when the Cadets would just do mind boggling drill, killer guard routines, and smokin drums and they would throw the crowd into a FIASCO because of the intensity and the energy that they generated?!?! I am a Cadets fan,and I love to watch them move and play lots of phat notes---again, not very accessible. When they finished all of us just sat there wondering if we should applaud or not. I hope that my mind changes when i see them again in Madison. ---and what happened to not disgracing the uniform that they all talked about last year? The back banel of the uniform is now blue-same color as the props and the guard uniforms-----BARF! (And in no way am i dissing the kids--they should be worshipped for the things that they are able to do on that field, i just couldn't catch the show design) CAVALIERS: The cavaliers totally removed all doubt from my mind about making the journey to Denver. It was unlike anything I have ever ever seen. They showed up and performed a drum corps show. They didn't add any comments, there were no Queens of hearts in entirely too awkward uniforms saying random things, they just came out, marched, played, and basically threw it in our face. We were all "SPLOOIED" saturday night......Killer show design, so creative. Cavaliers will win it this year. Not even worried about it. BK: I love it. Loud hornline. Weird music but it is great for anyone who appreciates something new. I think the title of the show should be "Dark Knights: Watch our freakin Pit" Thats what you need to do. Those homeboys ccan play. There are so many incredible details to this show. You really have to see it and appreciate it yourself. RETREAT: I LOATHE THE NEW RETREAT. The new song is GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!! It is long, it is boring, and it was enough to make any man go limp and start taking Viagra. hated it. We were talking aboutt he ' good ole days' when we marched in ingle file next to other corps and had the chance to rough em up at the gate and out on the field.....that stuff was awesome....and America O Canada was even better!!! This new song really really really sucks, and it needs to go. And I think it is time to let all the corps start coming back onto the field for retreat---that is a beutiful past time...... Good show. Whoever touched the button that turned on a voice in the stadium during SCV's performance deserves to be drug out in the street and flogged with a bat. That sucked. But overall a very good show put on by BK. THANKS!!!
  9. Maybe he is intending that we add our own comments to " I am sick of hearing..." AS for me, I am sick of hearing about other shows and not being able to witness it for myself. ......that will all end soon. God bless Drums Along the Rockies. but that comment about not hearing anything and then amps were added so its all better was pretty freakin funny!
  10. I am almost certain that BK will score a 99.15 Plus or minus 2 or 3 points. But somehow, BD will manage to win............................ But I hope those who get to go enjoy the show as much as i know i would. I hope all of the corps are just screamin out the gate!!!!!
  11. So I was just watching Crown's 2005 show and i'll let all who participated in that bad boy that it was awesome, one of my favorite shows of all time. ANYWAY Right at the end of the dvd, after the music stops and the crowd cheers, there is a close up on a girl in the guard--and i barely noticed that she had a big ole bump on her head!! I was wondering if that was a bump from that nights show, or if it was there was a previous boot to the head..... ......or if she kind of has a growth.....which is totally cool cause chicks with growths are hot. anyway, check it out. I feel terrible for her if the bump was from that night.
  12. I was a a Trooper in 1998, and at the end of our opener, the tempo was faster and the drill was pretty ....moving. One night in the Boise, ID show, i nailed a judge with the bell of my contra. Very next night, same judge, exact same spot in the show, but this time in Ogden, UT. dude got hammered twice by me. I can't remember what his name was. there are my 2.5 seconds of fame.
  13. So I just found a video about what the Boy Scouts of America are doing in order to attract more people into the program. it is here: http://www.foxnews.com/national/index.html Hopefully you can find it, I am not very smart on providing links to vids. it is an icon on there with some scouts and the title: Boosting Ranks. It is mentioned that there is a D&B corps acting as a scout troop... and from what i hear, most corps are registered as an explorer post for insurance reasons. How many corps back in the day were originated from a boy scout troop?
  14. I hear you there. I played Contra and everyone always thought we were the toughest, but we just pretended like we were. My hat goes off to the Euphoniums first, and then the tenors. especially those playing Pearl tenors. when i marched...97, 98, and 99 I noticed that most of the euph players in corps like SCV and BD were short girls. AND THEY WERE HOT in the eyes of many who saw them.....
  15. PHANTOM 2005, in the closer.......bright silks come flying out.....freakin sweet, everyone was jammin.
  16. I thought it sounded interesting..... There is potential. But to address my first major concern, as far as I can tell, this girl is only in the show for 1, maybe 2 minutes. Is she going to be marching otherwise...or just singing for 2 minutes and sit down. Maybe an optional DM? I hope that she gets a lot more opportunities than singing a rather pretty melody (that seems to have no words).
  17. I heard rumors that it was at least a 44...and then on finals night he kicked it up to a 48 out of the pure passion of the moment..... I think his kid brother marched cadets in 04 and threw a baton entirely out of a few stadiums, harming some local airborne wildlife......
  18. I want to see half of the top 6 have be corps that have the word "blue" in their name........ Or I would like to see 3 corps from Ohio in Finals, that would be cool too...... Either way I want to see a heck of a lot of drum corps this summer, its gonna be sweeeeeeet
  19. If I remember right, the Cadets were going to do a Copeland show in 99 and at around the end of May, they opted for "the big apple" Thats what I remember, please correct me if I am wrong.........
  20. I am biased, but the entire 1999 BK color guard.....and they were really fun too. BUT my ultimate drum corps crush was the Drum Major for the 1999 COLTS EMILY...something or the other...... i had a chance to talk to her in DC once, and i just kinda stuttered over my words.....and an..i uuuuuuuuuuh ya, she was gorgeous. And from what I hear, nice to talk to. But ya, the stock price of a girl goes way up when a) she likes drum corps or B) she marches corps.....
  21. Don't know if anyone mentioned it but....... don't forget your turf spray. I swear more rookiese forget to bring turf spray.........
  22. THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST DRUM CORPS SHOW THAT ANYONE HAS EVER SEEN. BUT the Cadets won't win. Their show will take at least 25 minutes to complete, and thats not including the warm up time that they use to 'get us into it'...... They will score a 99.95 and be penalized for going over time and will be bumped out of the top six. :P
  23. BLUE KNIGHTS 99 There was already a tradition in the hornline to "pants" anyone a member of the hornline at the end of rehearsal if it was their birthday....I think that was the master mind of the lead baritone section.... On caption head Jason Buckinghams b-day, during our warm up, he gave us the motion to play a major chord of some sort and we had all conspired to play the"pick a note".... a confused Buckingham made the symbol again and thats when we all put our horns down, and pansed the sucker./
