  1. Maybe DCI could make the finals videos available to Fan network subscribers for about a week following the show, and then take them down until next year. That seems only fair to those of us who subscribed all season, but who were not able to make it to BLUEmington. I think a "low-fi teaser" online would only make us want the "hi-fi" DVD that much more...
  2. For consitency, I would think that 2008 Finals would eventually be posted on the Fan Network.
  3. My "day after" was sort of like my "day before", only much shorter. The day before we had a seven or eight hour rehearsal, an easy day for corps. The day after, we started percussion camp at college, and everyone else was pretty much shot after three or four hours. I'm glad my parents were at finals, because I wouldn't have seen them otherwise until Thanksgiving.
  4. Thanks for your responses. I'm afraid that some corps today sort of "out complexity" their abilities, so fans are left scratching their heads and saying "HUH?!?! Or, they try to make "statements" where none are neccessary. To me, this was the perfect blend for the perfect show. Although it might not make it today, it remains, in my mind, a beautifully conceived and executed work of art.
  5. First, let me apologize if this has been asked already. I couldn't find it in a search... I was perusing some old videos on the Fan Network today, and I found (and watched) Santa Clara's 1989 Phantom of the Opera show. In my opinion, this remains the best drum corps show of all time! If they were to bring this show back, how do you think they would fare today? My opinion - the drill is amazing, the drumline and hornline (other than a couple of soloists) was flawless, the music is timeless, and the overall effect was breathtaking. If I were judging, I would have to spot them near the top (of course, I understand nothing about the judging process ).
  6. Actually, the Blue Stars STARTED the club! We're just coming back after a few years away...
  7. This is interesting... I would guess that when I was "of age", drum corps exposed more adolescents to classical and jazz music than any other single influence. Now, Baby Einstein and Baby Mozart are exposing babies to drum corps. There's something oddly disturbiung about that... Hey, I just thought of something - "Baby Blue Stars", "Baby Phantom Regiment", "Baby Cavaliers" - a new souvie idea?
  8. I just realized - NONE OF YOU IS SPARTACUS... SPARTACUS WAS KILLED IN PHANTOM'S SHOW LAST NIGHT! It was a trick question...
  9. There's no "thanks" required. We weren't being "nice"... Y'all were GOOD!
  10. I just asked my wife, and she said that I am Spartacus, after all... At my age I have trouble remembering. Can I change my vote?
  11. Ain't nothin' wrong with Vanguard tonight!
  12. From time to time, mine freezes for a few seconds, but it comes back. Against DCI's suggestion, I am watching it over wireless, so that might be some of the problem. It helped when I cleared my cache. One thing I HAVE noticed is that eveery now and then, the drill speeds up for a count or two and then "settles back down". Music keeps going, however. No biggie, but it's sort of funny, especially when Madison rotates their entire company fromt in about two seconds...
  13. I'm afraid that the performance-enhancing "drugs" they use are "talent", "practice", and "rehearsal"...
  14. You need to add another choice - "Not Sure". I thought I was Spartacus once, but when the Phantom folks on the field said that they were, I decided that I must not be. Right now, I am very confused...
  15. Truthfully, I remember the Park Ridge show at the beginning of the season more than I remember finals. Guardsmen had performed, and we came on second. As soon as we stepped off the line, lightning flashed, thunder crashed, the heavens opened, and the heaviest rain I've ever seen began to fall. We ran for cover, the rain abated, and the stars came out. We went back to begin the show again but, as soon as we stepped off, the same thing happened, only this time there was HAIL! To add insult to injury, the show was moved indorrs as a standstill performance, only (you guessed it) the Blue Stars weren't allowed into the gym because we were SOAKING WET! What I do remember most about finals is retreat. That was still the most exciting part of drum corps to me. As we were coming onto the field, we were next to the Bridgemen. I had been talking with one of the guys, who looked at me and, pointing to his "banana uniform", said "Can you believe we're actually wearing these things?!?!" Everything else about finals was just a blur. I did see my parents and a friend in the stands, however.
  16. The Guardsmen or 27th Lancers (I believe) did this back in the mid-'70s.
