Useless DCA trivia 10 good ones

Recommended Posts

A call to anyone who can confirm some trivia...I'm not sure of the answers (DCA Open Class)

1. Curt Hawkins...is he the only soloist winner to win it for 2 different corps?

2. Anyone know who marched in the most DCA Finals as a performer (not drum major, or American Section..must be horn, drum or guard)..My bet is on Mike Ryan of the Cabs who marched in 30 straight DCA finals from 1975-2004.

3. How many corps with less than 40 horns won DCA..Sunrisers come to mind..

4. When was the last time an all female colorguard took the field in a DCA final...was it Cabs in the mid 80's?

5. Is there anyone out there who marched in all 3 of DCA's worst quagmires..the 1987 DCA prelims, the 1999 finals and the 2006 prelims? ( 2 of them were in Allentown )

6. Speaking of Best Soloist...has anyone ever won the award on a Bb horn?

7. Is the record finals attendance the 12,000 plus at Franklin Field in 1981?

8. How many DCA corps made open class finals in their first year of field competition...

9. Statesmen are playing Rocky in their 2007 show. Has it been over 20 years since we heard Rocky in a DCA competition? Matadors come to mind..

10. What active DCA open class corps has changed their uniform the most times since the 1965 DCA inaugural season?

4. Empire in the 90's. maybe even 2000?

8. since Class A has only been around for less than 10 years everyone was open prior to that;

10. Hurcs or Cru.

Ray "Bubba" Lane marched 35 straight seasons on contrabass on his way to becoming a lifetime member of the New York Skyliners. If anyone beats that, I'll be seriously impressed.

#8 Rochester Phoenix in 1975. (Yeah, no Open or Class A back then)

How about last all male corps in DCA. Guessing Cabs or Sky in late 1970s. This was answered somewhere but I forget.

How about longest gap for a playing member (not Honor Guard) between DCA Finals. Have a friend who played sop for 1978 Westshoremen and 2005 Carolina Gold with nothing in between.

according to CorpsReps, Matadors last played Rocky in 1987, but Chops, Inc played it in 2001.

#10 would be a tough one - depends on what you mean by "change", as a lot of corps make some noticeable modifications

(5) Yeah...I was there with the Crusaders in '87 and '99 ! The worst EVER had to be last year's prelims ! I was playing snare with the White Sabers and I didn't mind the rain, but the wind and cold really sucked !

1987 was just disappointing...having to do a standstill for a final performance and taking the prelim scores to crown their champion ! The little maintainence shack on the left side of the stadium has pictures on the wall taken after the '87 prelims. The field looked pretty much like a big bowl of 'chocolate pudding'.

1999 wasn't too bad after the first few corps ! Unfortunately, we were one of the first few corps on at finals...and we got pretty wet ! Things cleared up quite nicely after that !
