Paul Milano
Me (the short snare drummer) in 1969 in a drum and twirling corps. Still friends with the tall guy (who went with me to the Cavaliers). He was 6'3" and I was 4'10". I'm pretty sure his leg rest was in his nuts. ^0^ The instructor and I are also still close. I'll be marching with both of these guys in the Cavaliers Anniversary Corps this summer. Me in a parade with my first corps in Milwaukee. 40 years after this picture was taken, I marched with the tall guy next to me in the Royal Airs Alumni Corps. Me again in this same corps (St. Gregory the Great Crusaders). I'm in the first row, second from the left. Our drum major was Joe Bruno, later the "voice" of midwest drum corps shows. Our drill instructor was John Brazale. Me (short guy - getting the theme here - I eventuall grew 10 inches my senior year of high school) toward the top after taking 2nd place out of about 40 guys in a drum, bell, and baton corps national snare solo championship. My rookie year in the Cavaliers. Yes, I'm the short guy . . . I'll be marching with both of these guys in the Cavaliers Anniversary Corps. esch
Here's some more pictures of "Baby Huey." His name is Neil Schierstedt. He was actually quite the intellectual, and a bit of a "hippie" back then. A really nice guy. You can see what he's up to these days at his website: www.zenracer.com He's an accomplished professional photographer and graphic artist. P.S. If you guys were so in "awe" of us, why did you have to beat the slop out of us that night? :P Paul, That's what made the 1970 season so cool for us... we had been raised to revere you guys, and while we knew from the crowd's reaction that we had done something special that night, we honestly couldn't figure out why our name wasn't being called during retreat (I remember thinking at first they had forgotten we were there). For a lot of us, the biggest thrill of the season was being able to hang out at shows and talk with you guys; it was like talking to gods. And, except for one Kiltie who told us angrily "your sh** su**s." you were all so friendly and welcoming. An amazing feeling, to be able to walk with your idols and talk as equals... Thanks for the further information about Neil. Cool website! Tom Eschenfelder Santa Clara 1970-73 Director, Vanguard B Corps 1980-

Using the same windows you guys did, the same intense winter program of holding cymbals out til you dropped! Angles angles angles!!!!! Just amazing!!! 1974, 5' 11", 150# - 14 years old. Trying to live up to my heros... Edited November 21, 2007 by Tansea

Russellrks
Dude, who is that? I thought you would know him. After flipping through my old yearbooks I see that I got this picture out of the '77 DCI yearbook so I guess it's from '76.
