euponitone
Didn't say "no development"... said "not much". I think the topic of arranging in DC has been beaten to death enough in these forums (issues due to [a] corps trying to pack too much into an 11-min time limit, and visual taking the lead in design priority, resulting in forcing any musical phrasing or structure to fit the requirements of visual). The price paid for these two issues comes at the expense of good musical development in arranging. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a corps come out with fewer pieces in their show and then use the time to better develop and sell those ideas? Instead of the ADD-approach we see so much of these days? That's all I'm saying... True, you said not much. However...i think that some people still do a good job of developing pieces. I also think that arrangers are just a function of the system nowadays. If the arrangements sound like they were written for an add 7th grader (me 10 years ago), its probably because the average judge / fan is something like that. Can I back that up, maybe, but its too late to try....
hughesmr
The theme will be seen throughout the show. The rotating blocks and other visual drill may not communicate the idea/theme, but other parts of the show will do so very nicely. (and no, I'm not talking about the narration). All I'm trying to say is that nobody knows the complete details of the show yet so we can't sit around here and judge it until we have all the information. I appreciate and respect your opinion, but aren't you contradicting yourself? Cheers!

LAMystreaux
I don't really think that's respectful...Mr. Ticheli had a very clear intent on what the piece is to be about. It is beautiful, though, I do agree. Oh come on. Again, how many times have we seen the original intent of some source music completely taken to a different place with a drum corps show? I have no doubt The Cadets treatment of the piece will be nothing short of respectful and spectacular.

chaos001
Ummm, yeah ... for about the last 25 years. There's also this thing in music called "development", which I haven't heard much of in drum corps for a pretty long time... the blue knights definitely seem to strive for this in their productions...imo
