Best 2nd Place Show?

Recommended Posts

We had a 3 corps race going on for much of the day, but '04 SCV was never in any danger of losing the round. This makes them the winner of the 3rd place slot two years in a row. '90 Star did come from a sizable gap to overtake '93 Phantom for second place, though. Well, we are now down to two more placement rounds. Who will take the 2nd place slot???

What was the best second place show of all time?

RULES

----------------------

*Make honorable mentions if you must, but posts with multiple corps WILL NOT COUNT.

*Please include the corps name and year. There are some corps with multiple entries, therefore I cannot automatically assume you are voting for the most popular corps.

*Once your vote has been cast, it cannot be changed. This makes tallying results much easier.

wow. some heavy hitters here. 74 and 76 scouts, 81 and 83 blue devils, 87 and 88 scv, 89 phantom, and the obvious choice, 93 star. but since star really obviously won that year (by a landslide) inspite of the musings of the crackpots in green shirts, i'm gonna go with another corps that i wish would have won, in spite of enough tics to justify a 2nd place score---

92 cadets. beautiful show, one of my favorite cadets hornlines ever, and one i was really really wanting to see get rewarded, in the end.

First...some corps I have to mention

'80 27th Lancers...just a great show to listen to

'89 Phantom...obviously

'01 Cadets... I LOVE THIS SHOW

'06 Phantom... FAUST

'07 Cadets... I started off hating this show, and it ended up my favorite of the year

My vote goes to.......... 1993 STAR. This show should have won it all, but the more important reason for my vote here is that it revolutionized the way drum corps was approached.

I have a feeling a lot of people will go for Star 1993, so I'll leave that as my second choice, and vote for Blue Devils 2004. That opener blew my mind when I saw it live on the field (and just when I recovered three years later, BD scorched my mind again with their show last summer). I just wish they kept the original ending, when the drumline decelerated and "parked" in the end zone.

HM: Phantom 1989, Star 1993, SCV 1998, Cadets 2001, Cavaliers 2003, Phantom 2006.

The ties in 1996, 1999 and 2000 left some truly great shows off of this list, no matter which way you think the ties should have gone.

2007 Cadets....hands down...the corps that should have won, IMHO...ah well, whats done is done. This corps had it all. A balls to the wall hornline, demanding drill, and non stop in your face intensity...Finals night, that was the most riled up hornline Ive EVER heard, they proved all the doubters wrong, and I loved it!

HMs to:

1997 Cadets - GREAT hornline, very demanding show...loved it!

1993 Star....Legendary

1992 Cadets - awkward arrangment of To Tame at times, but overall I ate it up.

2006 Phantom...Corps that struggled early on, but came out being one of the strongest runners up in a long time, when Phantom places 2nd, they usually have phenomenal shows.
