Typewriters now but can someone tell me when SCV used one of these...

We used them in the pit when I taught there in 80s. Word has it that Chaz Anderson had one (he did landscaping on the side) and Ralph liked the sound of it so much, he put it in the show.

True - manual typewriters are legal percussion instruments. As such, a typewriter in the pit can also be amplified. However, a marching typewriter line would be considered "battery percussion", and cannot be amplified under current DCI rules.

Electronic typewriters remain illegal until 2009, when electronic percussion will be allowed.

Now you have me waiting for Dynasty and Pearl to come out with harnesses for field typewriters!

'Course, if you were to put a scoop on it, it'd have to be on top!

You can see and hear it in action in the 1985 video, in Grover's Corners right after the shot of Jeff Pearson conducting. It's kind of amazing how loud that thing was (no thread-jacking, please).

Yep. Everytime I work in the yard with one of those I think of SCV. They do have a nice ring to them.

If the SUNRISERS can bring a KITCHEN SINK (1987) out on the field, WHY NOT A TYPEWRITER???
