R.I.P. SCV?

Recommended Posts

So..... after watching Atlanta live last night, I couldn't help but lament the loss of a once truly great competitor: SCV. After their "fall" in 05, they never really have seemed to pick up much momentum, and it looks as though they are on their way back out of the top six again. If I'm not wrong, their instructional/design team has been more or less the same since then, and they haven't been able to make many improvements to get them back competing with the big dogs. I've been an SCV fan for a while, but their shows the past few years haven't done much for me (or the judges it seems). They seem to be stuck in mediocrity from design to performance.

So what's up? Isn't it about time that they cleaned house and started fresh? No offense to the Vanguard members, but their current staff doesn't seem to be doing the job very well. This year 7th, next year out of finals???

I'll bite.

SCV has one of the most innovative shows this year. It is a visual masterpiece!

I liked last year's show and I like this year's show. It just appears to me this year's corps looks less experienced to me. Maybe I'm off base, but they march younger than last year's corps.

You couldnt be more wrong!! At the San Antonio show they got the biggest ovation of the night from where I sat. I was up very high in the stands. No other corps approached them as far as visual design. Sure it was a bit dirty and they might need some good cleaning specialist come in, but the direction of this corps is a major improvement from the elbow to elbow conjested marching program they presented in the early 2000's. If they had had this visual group in 2004, no one could have touched them.

remember, a new crew takes a little time...didn't they just get a new director recently? 92-96 they didn't score any higher than 5th...three years later and a share of the championship (which i still say should have been theirs outright)...they'll be ok
