FTNK
I have to agree with Bruckner8 here, the 4th valve just isn't worth it. And though there are definitely other factors besides the 4th valve at play in this decision, I'd take the 3 valve Yamaha over the 4 valve Dynasty any day (having played both). Aren't the newer King tubas (that PR started with in 2006, I remember seeing them in Massachusetts and thinking "####, they have huge bells) 3 valves? Also, the leadpipe curves inward to go under the wrist (like the old K 90 did) rather than going around.
bawker
Funny you should mention it because Academy is playing the Alpine Symphony on Jupiter Marching Tubas this year! That's a big ol' tone poem . . .any idea what motifs they're using?
Bruckner8
I snipped a lot of important stuff and then you said this...Funny you should mention it because Academy is playing the Alpine Symphony on Jupiter Marching Tubas this year! LOL! Awesome! What a great piece. I'll hear it live next month (Cleveland Orchestra).
Tom Brace
That's a big ol' tone poem . . .any idea what motifs they're using? I don't...I wasn't close enough to the music stands to steal a copy....it may have not even been there yet. I believe they are (tentatively) also doing... kevingamin
Thanks for keeping things in perspective, Bob. Please... put your spreadsheets away! That will never happen.

cone256
My corps uses Dynasty 4 valve tubas and we use the 4th valve all the time. It seems at times that I'm holding that sucker down more than any other valve. Our horns have a horrible time staying in tune (the instruments not the players themselves) so we usually throw in the 4th valve to help that out. I use it for both C (in the staff and below), low F, as well as some other lower pedal type notes. JayM
How often do corps change out their lines now days??We played the same line of King bugles throughout our entire existence. I marched for three years and played on four different horns.
