Let's have some fun.

We all have one of those years that we look back on and say, "what were they thinking?" Whether it is your own recollection, a recording you heard, a video you watched, or a recap you may have recently reviewed, (I have a friend who still carries around the recap from 1986 finals... pulls it out on occasion and curses with disdain and utter disgust) you look back on the outcome and say, "they sure got that one wrong." The survey above includes some of the more notable, controversial finals decisions. There may be others, and feel free to weigh in with your thoughts.

My only intention here is to have some fun, and to hopefully foster a spirited debate. After all, this is why we do this, right?

And for some of you uber-sensitive girly men who have an innate inability to be objective about your own corps, you'll notice that no group appears more often on the list above than the corps of which I was a part. Some of those years I marched, some I did not. I included them only because in the annals of DCA history they were (or are still) somewhat controversial. I can be objective when I listen to (or watch) recordings of my own corps. In fact, I listened to 1989 just recently and thought to myself, "boy, that wasn't nearly as good as I thought it was! How in the world did we win?"

So enjoy. I hope this thread stays up for a bit, and we can all have some fun with this. And try not to be so sensitive.

OK, who voted for 1975 and what do you think should have happened?

Wondering 'cause it's the only Final on the list that I actually saw and know the background (how long did it take you to dry out  ) .

Rest of them I was either marching Finals, only going to Prelims (Allentown) or not following corps at all.

1975 should never have taken place that night. the judges couln't keep the sheets dry enough to read. this may make some mad but bruni didn't want to spend the money to have the show the next night. i know becuase i was there when he made the statement to the chief judge. somebody had to win and sky won prelims so why not them. besides they were good the 2nd half of the season. i agree with the outcome.

LOL, 1975 was my first full season and just remember that night so well. Just keep hearing new pieces of that night and year as the years go by. I had a Reading fan say that the wet field killed the Buccs chances and he could see members slip. Wish I could remember why he said this hurt the Buccs more than the other corps.

Just remember if DCA was delayed that night I would have missed it. Right after scores were annnounced we drug our soggy butts out of the stadium to the busses right across the street. By daybreak we were back at the pick up point still damp and half frozen (wet jackets don't do well holding in body heat).

1981 has got to be that year for me. Not meaning to knock the Hurcs, who fielded a fine corps...but you sit and watch a championship only to have a group of judges tell you that you actually didn't see it. This was the classic SUN/BUCS battle...I had Hurcs in third (and not a close third). BUCS were great all year and SUN as usual peaked in late August with probably one of their most entertaining and eclectic shows. I had BUCS winning by a slight margin.

that year the bucs didn't have a chance. it was between cabs and sky. everybody was slipping. we got pulled off the field half way through our opener. it was a sucky finals.
