JamMan
SCV, Phantom and Blue Devils are great at orchestrating their brass so the volume really comes across, in addition to Cadets and Crown.
archbananas
Try sitting down front during a BD encore performance and you'll get the full effect of loud. Try sitting down front during a BD encore performance and you'll get the full effect of loud. I would have stayed if it was Blue Devil's playing the encore.... but it was Pacific Crest XD no offense to Pacific Crest >.< Thanks for the responses guys XD So... from this.. I got 1) Sit in the middle.... Lower for higher volume but less drill. Higher for lower volume but more drill 2) I'm glad this topic has not drifted away from my original question xD 3) Cadets seem to receive the most recognition for the loudest... I can't wait to see them. Maybe I should make a poll for this....
boxingfred
Cadets are really powerful! Crown has a nice full sound, same as Phantom. Devils haven't rattled my back teeth in years, They used to be famous for that. Maybe Mr DeGrauwe Will bring Power to The Cavaliers.
SynthLine09
I wish there was a year where they would test decibels at finals.Or maybe even at all the major shows, then average them. I have my SPL meter at finals every year. I don't average them or anything but its cool to see. Its been in the 130 db's a few times. I think the loudest it hit was phantom 07 at the end of their opener, at one show in san diego. The stadium was all concrete front and back and kind of down in a bowl, so sound was being reflected off a lot of surfaces. I wanna say it was 135db? Consistently though in the past 2 years Crown has been the loudest
Jimisback
Loud is relative to year in MOST cases. While older corps were louder. Most of todays corps are more balanced and better in tune. Now it comes down to taste in what you want to hear. Loud and jazzy lines were from the past for the biggest part. Now it is more a classical line or just not as Jazzy. But better in sound as far as tone goes IMHO. But then again, what do you like? Would you like rock without the distorted guitar? Rap without the scrubbing records? American Idol without the vocal gymnastics? All of it has great parts, all of it doesn't. Depends on taste really. IMHO. But if you are looking for LOUD. New corps don't match the old. But for new LOUD. I put my money on Madison this year. Just a guess. IllianaLancerContra
Okay Hi guys! :D Thanks for responding to my previous post with the famous drill moves [< helped me alot.Okay so here's my problem... I have never been to a DCI Finals in my life D: I was entering high school when DCI Finals was in California... but I couldn't get a ticket x.x D: Sadness.... anyway. My dad and I have been planning to go to Finals in Indy and I've been thinking.... How loud are the corps o-o I mean... I've been to DCI comps before... but they are always so early in the season, so volume is never really added at this point x.x And I am always curious to how loud the corps are at the end of the season! The loudest corps I listened to was The Academy 2009... and to tell you the truth. It wasn't what I expected at this point x\ I was hoping for something louder, but then again, it was early season xD So yeah.... I'm just really curious as to... 1) Who is(are) the loudest corps in World Class 2) How loud are they? (in comparison to everyday sounds) 3) Where should I aim to sit in order to receive the greatest impact of sound :O Thanks for answering if you do! :D ALSO! to you crazy dcp'ers out there... Try ranking the corps like.. 1-22? in volume :D XD That'd be awesome if you could... :D Those of us who experienced 1980 Spirit of Atlanta know what loud is. But I don't know how one could recreate it. Edited February 28, 2010 by IllianaLancerContra
Jimisback
Try 1979, But I am Biased. I love my brothers. 1980 Was a fantastic corp. Legends really.
chaos001
no I go more to hear the music than to see drill. So, as long as I'm not too low [ie on flat ground] I'm pretty happy. I loved the seats I had at Murfreesboro this past summer. that's just crazy! if i hadn't left after Regiment to drive the 3.5 hrs home, i would've been in that second photo. boxingfred
Try 1979, But I am Biased. I love my brothers. 1980 Was a fantastic corp. Legends really. 1980 was sick but, I think 1979 horn line was the loudest. In 1980 Spirit was trying to take top drums and top horns so, I think the 80 line played with more control until the timing gun.
The Other Mike
Those of us who experienced 1980 Spirit of Atlanta know what loud is. But I don't know how one could recreate it. One could try and tune jet engines at take off, maybe close.
